I doubt if there is a better location for a campsite anywhere in the UK; Skiddaw out of one window and the full length of Derwentwater out of the other. The mist over the lake first thing in the morning was simply breathtaking. I don't know why, but the site of people watching TV in their caravans with such spectacular scenery all around just looked out of place

We visited over the Easter which of course was busy, but not overpowering. The toilets, as has been mentioned, were spotless and didn't seem to ever be too crowded. The play area got a little noisy, but not offensively so. The shop, I found to be a little lacking, although with Keswick so close, this didn't seem to be a problem

Keswick is a five minute walk away and is interesting, although busy in the high season. The boat service is also very good; A tip; instead of walking through town to reach it, turn right out of the site, through the gate on your left just past the Oval site and across the common. A round the lake ticket is about £6.50 and you can jump on and off as often as you please. The walks around the West side of the Lake (under Cat Bells) are quieter than in the Borrowdale and reachable either by car, or by the boat service.

Keswick is ideal for visiting the more popular areas to the South such as Windermere and Ambleside, but to the North of the A66, the Caldbeck Fells and the Helvelyn range are just as spectacular. Another tip, if you are visiting the Caldbeck Fells, stop off at the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket with it's own brewery on site and large range of real ales.

All in all, a clean but busy site set amongst specatular scenery

Just what you would expect from The Camping and Caravanning Club.

We had a great time 2 adults, 2 and 4 year old children and a dog for 4 nights.  Part of this was spent with 2 other parties whom the staff did their best to put near to us.

Perfect holiday for anyone who wants to boat on Derwentwater.

The most picturesque site in the world I think would not be an understatement.

Staff fantastic, friendly and accommodating.  Shop great for the the basics.  Parent and baby room with baby bath facilities great for my little one who is now developing a phobia of showers! from other campsite visits.

We have been to Keswick town itself many times and can recommend the Italian - who do proper meals for the kids not just sausage, beans and chips.  Local Forestry Commission site a must for a day out.  Crosthwaite Church is lovely and has a warm welcome for a 10.30 service on a Sunday.

Have just spent a very pleasant 3 nights at this site - although it was very busy the toilets and showers were always immaculate and I never had to queue for either.  There is a lovely feel to this site - there were young families, bikers and couples while we stayed, all of whom were friendly.  There is an information room with leaflets on what to do in the area, and a shop selling papers and there was a very good supermarket 2 minutes away.

The scenery and setting for the site were amazing, mountains all round and right at the lake edge - the dog walk was lovely and well thought out - lots of paths in a grassy area some again going down to the lakeside - as a dog owner this is much appreciated!

There are lots of good different takeaways in Keswick which we sampled but there is a superb pub called the White Horse Inn sited just off the Penrith road about 6 miles out of Keswick with wonderful views and fantastic food - but it's worth noting most places stop serving food at 8.30.

Only downside was that during one night we had torrential rain and the site was extremely wet - we had a large puddle in our awning! - but it did drain quite quickly.  Will thoroughly recommend this site to anyone

My boyfriend and I, both 22 stayed at this site for 3 nights in a tent. It rained most of the time that we were there but that's England for you.

We couldn't fault this site at all . It was the first time that we camped and I must say that we do not have anything to compare it to. We found that the facilities were great , everything you need and they were never busy when we were there.

The location is fantastic , about a 5 minute walk into Keswick town, so great if you want to go out for a drink and easy to walk back from.

I recommend this site for people who want to do things based around the town , e.g. Drinking , meals , museums.

We have just returned from a half-term break at this site.  We have now been here twice and can not fault it what-so-ever.  The site is well located - right on the north bank of Derwentwater and only 5 minutes walk from the town.

The site has two toilet and shower blocks which are spotless - even though the site was full, a small shop and friendly helpful staff.  There is a small play area but most of the children seem to prefer 'messing' about in the lake - take plenty of changes of clothes!

The surrounding scenery is fantastic - mountains all around and a super view across the lake.  There are lots of good walks close by - on both visits we haven't moved the car.  About 15 minutes walk away is a leisure swimming pool, climbing wall and pencil museum - great if it's wet.

We have returned and immediately booked again for later in the year - but be warned if you want Bank Holidays you need to book early!

This was my first visit to this site and loved every minute of it, even though the weather wasn't much to write about! Arrived on Thursday afternoon in the rain, the staff were very helpful and friendly and gave us a spot that was quite sheltered (we were on the field near the lane coming into the site) which was close to the loos but not to close and right next to the water point etc, fab spot!
Never once had to que for the toilets or showers, which were always very clean apart from the grass of the muddy boots but that cant be helped! Good site shop, washing up facilities and clothes washing/drying facilities.
With just a very short walk into the town centre, which sells everything you need ( we had to buy water proof pants!) and some great pubs/restaurants, keswick and the surrounding areas have lots to offer, great walks, fab views, water sports etc.
The views from the site are amazing and right on the waters edge, there's a play area for children but didn't really pay attention to how big it was as I don't have kids. One downside, I don't think id like to stay on the backfield, a long walk to the loos, but that's the only sort of bad thing there is to say. Will return again and have already told my friends about it!  Oh and just remember your 20ps for the hair dryers, showers are free and HOT!

Visited this site over the Easter weekend.  This is one of our favourite sites as we can launch the kayaks straight onto the water without having to drive anywhere !  Our 5 year old tried kayaking for the first time and, as the weather was so gorgeous, she loved it.  The staff are wonderful.  As expected on the night before Good Friday, the M6 was a nightmare but we kept the staff informed of our whereabouts over the telephone, and they didn't mind us arriving at 9.30pm.
The views from the site are astounding, with mountains all around.  It's hard to know which direction to pitch your caravan in as everywhere you look is beautiful.  Shops just a five minute walk away and big supermarket at the end of the lane.  Shower blocks very clean as usual. Only had to queue once even though the site was packed to the rafters.  Fabulous site for families.  Loads of kids running around in the sunshine.  We did used to enjoy this site before we had children aswell !  Felt envious of the little tiny tents that did not want electric as they were able to pitch up right on the banks of the lake.  Again, another wonderful break on this site.
WARNING - we had to book at the beginning of December to get on this site for Easter.  It really does book up extremely early.  It was also a minimum of 5 night book.  We could only stay 4, but had to pay for 5, which wasn't too bad as it meant we did not have to leave the site by 10am on the Monday morning, and could stay all day and leave at around 8pm.  We will always come back to this site at least once a year, and would recommend it to all.

This is one of my favourite sites due to its excellent location, cheery helpful staff and its close to where I live! The site is very clean and has all manner of pitches with or without electric The showers are lovely and hot and regularly cleaned. It is on the banks of lake Derwentwater and the views over the lake are superb. We were there on a very frosty January weekend, as there were those mad 'crag- rats' (otherwise known as walkers!) in tents. I was petrified that we'd find someone dead or hypothermic! The site has a shop selling provisions and some camping accessories (but its a franchise and is only open in high season). The town centre of keswick is a couple of minutes walk away with supermarkets, shops, takeaways of all descriptions and plenty of pubs all serving bar meals. There is a small market on a Saturday morning on the high street or Penrith Market (much larger) up the road on the A66. There are many water activities and walks in abundance and no shortage of things to do. This site books up early and we have not got on it a few times as its so popular so book early!

The best thing about this site is the location - right next to lake Derwentwater & 5 mins walk into Keswick. Staff helpful & friendly. A good base for walking & siteseeing. Good pubs & grub in Keswick pubs, fairly cheap. Although they werent child friendly at all !
If you have older kids (or non) keep away from the park (our son is 13) becos little kids playing football kept hitting our car & caravan. We put some solar lights & a flag out but had to take them in as they were getting damaged. The tree right outside our awning was just asking to be climbed and the children constantly whizzed past our lit BBQ on their bikes to & from the park entrance - a danger to themselves and us.
Toilet blocks clean but wouldn't win any awards ! and definitely more shower blocks needed for the size of the site.
We had a great easter week & will certainly go back, but at a quieter time and not next to the park !
