We spend 3 nights camping at Bleatarn farm from Friday 10th August - Sunday 12th. The campsite was of a great size, not too big and not too small, plenty of space and excellent location for our visit to hadrians wall and Carlisle. Andrew met us upon arrival and was extremely helpful and friendly.

The facilities on the site were excellent, lovely and clean, 2 toilets and 1 shower. Although the campsite was full on Friday and saturday I never had to queue for the shower or toilet. The 2 unisex toilets were in the same block and although this was not a big issue, I feel it would maybe be beneficial to have separate male/female toilet blocks. Another shower could be beneficial but again, this was not an issue for queuing etc.

There were electrical hook ups available although we did not require this in our tent. Information area on the campsite provided us with local information and maps for reference to plan our days out.

Andrew provided us with an information sheet with recommended pubs to eat, places to visit, emergency numbers etc, excellent for people like us who did not know the local area as had come from out of town. Nearby pubs we visited for food included the stag inn at high Crosby- excellent food.

Howard's arms in nearby Brampton was excellent as was the Indian takeaway in Brampton also ( Brampton tandoori on front street). Plenty to do in the surrounding area with Carlisle just a short way down the road in car.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the aa and on the campsite, we will return to Bleatarn farm as we had an excellent experience here and a great holiday.

Brilliant three nights spent here in the warm weather. Echo all the other positive comments made by others. The the hard working owner-farmer is happy to chat, the lambs are very friendly, the Wall is 100 metres away. Pitches are flat and level, 7 hookup points for a mix of tents and caravans, toilets/shower spotless, good access for 'vans. Brampton 5 mins, Carlisle 10 mins, M6-J43 5 mins.

Absolutely nothing to say by way of criticism. We liked it so much that my wife has decided to stay on, while I have to return to do some work. Bah humbug.

We've booked to come back in July, to do some of the things which we planned for this visit, but which we didn't get around to because we stayed on and around the site soaking up the ambience.

First class site, and deserves to do really well.

Just Got Back From A three day stay with my family of five. What can I say but perfect. Everything was spotlessly clean and there was everything we needed in the facilities. The family were very friendly and helpful and took time out to show the children the animals and tractors on the farm which they loved. The local town of Bramton is a lovely little place and we also Visited Carlisle castle and Gretna green during our stay. If you want a break that is peaceful and tranquil this is a brilliant place to stay would definitely visit again in the future. (hairstraightners were a brilliant extra touch for us ladies!)

Just back from a visit to this site and we have to agree with all the others before us. The site is lovely and flat, with plenty of space for van, awning and car all with good space between pitches. Lovely views are a bonus.

The toilet block was kept very clean and the bins, pot wash area was always kept spotless and never was rubbish sitting very long. The shower was fine and clean and the information room was very helpful.

Our only small issue was, we had a tent across our grass area between the next pitch and it did feel as if they were sitting in our van, but they left the next day.

The owners were very helpful and came and asked the kids if they wanted to come and help feed the lambs. The site seems to be used by the walkers of Hardian's wall close by. so some small tents are up at night and down the next morning, but all were very quiet.

The site was lovely and quiet(except the farm animals, never a complaint, as it is a working farm). The owners are still fairly new to us caravan and camping people, but are doing a good job. Maybe they could in time add a couple of electric hook-ups on the camping side to stop the issue that happened with us. We will definitely be back to this lovely site (if we can get in that is!) Rate was £16. 00 per night.

I have just returned from three days at Bleatarn, and I would give everyone a little advice, visit now whilst you can. This campsite is a little gem and once word gets around you will have to book to go as it will be so popular. Whilst its true there are no formal facilities for children they don’t need them, it’s a working farm and if your children like animals they will love Bleatarn with lambs etc just on the other side of the fence. The toilet facilities, showers, pot wash and information centre are all housed in a large portakabin but don’t let this put you off. The whole facilities are second to none, modern, clean and comfortable. The views from the site are great too, the hills of the Lake District and the Northern Pennines are stunning, and if its history you want there’s about 2000 years worth on the farm as Hadrian’s Wall runs through the farm and the family are quite happy for you to stroll over the field to the wall. Talking of strolling it’s a great area to do that, but it’s not just history and walks there are lots of attractions on the door step including an aircraft museum, wild life etc. I won’t go on to much about what’s around the area as half of the fun is discovering things for yourself, however if you do find yourself stuck, just look in the information centre on site there are dozens and dozens of leaflets there.

When we were there it was the warmest March days on record, the warmth of the days was well matched by warmth of the welcome offered by the family who run the farm and campsite, the whole site is almost as flat a pancake there’s hard standings for caravans with electric hook ups for tents and caravans. It’s hard to find anything that’s not perfect if I could make a recommendation it would be to put a light in the pot wash, this would make it usable on darker evenings and illuminate the way to the showers and WCs. As I said at the beginning visit now before it’s so busy at Bleatarn Farm, you will have to wait for available space to visit.

What a lovely place! We have just spent 4 nights at Bleatarn Farm Campsite, we picked the site for the easy access to Hadrians Wall with the promise of lovely long walks, but it was 'too hot' to walk our two dogs very far (one is a Siberian Husky!) unbelievably hot for March!

The campsite is level and spacious with lovely views and the facilities were spotlessly clean. There is also an information room full of leaflets of places to visit in the area and of course maps of Hadrians wall. It was lovely watching the antics of the new lambs in the field next to the site!

Our hosts were very helpful and very friendly, giving us information on the walks and pointing out interesting features on the wall near to the farm. The previous review said it all! A gem of a site.

Will definitely be going back to do justice to all the walks in the area!

We stayed 3 nights at the site. Facilities are very good. Pitches flat and well maintained. Toilets and washing up area kept very clean and tidy. Bins provided to segregate waste for recycling. As previously mentioned the site is on Hadrians Wall consequently there is easy access to the path. Very good information room with maps. We were lent maps to enable our walks from the site. Site owners are very helpful. The site charges are low, very good value.

Very good pub within walking distance, The Stag Inn at Low Crosby on Eden.

We'll certainly return to this site.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at this campsite. The owners are lovely and friendly and have lots of information about the local area. This is a brand new site with exceptional toilet and shower facilities. They even have an information room stocked with leaflets of things to do in the area. Hadrians wall walk is situated at the back of the farm house, brilliant to have that right on your doorstep! The small touches made our stay very comfortable, like electric lights, hairdryer and straighteners, handwash and heating in the toilet/shower block. Surrounded by green fields, sheep and cows. Carlisle airport is quite close but did not experience any high levels of noise as it is a private airport and only light aircraft use it during the day. All in all a fantastic place to stay with great facilities and we will definitely go back again!

Visited the site for the August Bank Holiday this is a small site located by the farm which is a working farm. The area is nice and flat for camping with plenty of room. Some animals are next to you in the adjoining field which is a lovely sight but a little noisy at feeding times.

The shared toilet area was a new experience for us but not to bad a second toilet for men is needed which could be located within the information room. The overall cleanliness of the site makes up for the unisex toilet area. Andrew provides an excellent site and we wish him all the best.

Within the surrounding areas are a Plane Museum which we visited, Hadrian's Wall - Birdsowald is a 30 minute drive, a walk though the farm yard takes you straight onto the walkers path which we went on this is child friendly. We also drove to Gretna Green and Dumfries the Solway Coast is within easy reach.

In the next village Brampton you will find two Spar shops and a co-op. There are several take a ways but we did not use these.

We visited with friends and both parties agree that we would love to re-visited this site again.

This is a lovely little campsite on a working farm with really friendly owners who cant do enough to help.

We stayed in a tent (no electric) and the site was fantastic value for money.

There is a small portacabin with information about the area, toilets and a shower. The facilities are well thought out and really clean.

We had a great time tramping round Roman forts and Carlisle castle nearby. The kids loved dashing round the campsite with their football and watching the cows.

The site itself is small so the children can wonder about and still be within sight at all times.

Highly recommended!
