What a fab campsite; it's like no other we've stayed on! It's not without it's faults but there is something magical about this place that you will either love or hate. It's also surrounded by places to explore so all in all we had an amazing week staying here.
Starting with the location; it's very rural - 3 miles from the nearest village (pub / shop) which is Corfe Castle and 5 miles from the nearest town of Swanage. Whilst this is part of the attraction for me it means a 5 mile drive to a supermarket, and even then, it's only a Co-Op and it's at the end of the peninsula so in the wrong direction for heading out for the day. You have to be very tactical about shopping and plan ahead, and make good use of the ice-block freezing facility at camp every day.
We spent half term week there and arrived on Tuesday lunchtime to find the pretty busy (probably half full) considering the awful weather forecast for the week. By Friday it was fully booked so I'm inclined to suggest that as far as school hols or summer weekends are concerned the weather forecast has to be bad to get a space. I was worried that the site would be rammed but there were still spaces between the pitches. The problem was more the facilities - a lot of people in the ladies and all of a sudden toilet roll was running out etc, . It didn't really bother me as sparkling facilities isn't what I look for in a campsite and in a muddy woodland what do you expect?! The highlight here is the ability to have campfires and for the kids to play and make friends.

I had previously given Burnbake a miss because it was too busy and full of families, but decided to try it for one night outside of school holidays, and I loved it!There was enough space to find a quiet pitch away from other people(I have 3 dogs, so do not want to be too close to people who may be upset by them or who may upset them). I loved that I could use my firepit. It was great to be able to access the woods and heathland so easily. The loos were clean and the showers looked good(only being there for 1 night I didn't use them)and they have washing up facilities too, although I didn't use them either(I always do my washing up at my tent). There was a very relaxed vibe - because it was quiet, there was no rush to leave the site so I stayed until 4pm the next day. I will certainly return, out of season when there are not too many children. The other great thing about this site is that is very quiet as it is away from the road(although you can just hear the steam railway in the background!)and has the most wonderful night sky as there is no light pollution. It is more expensive than the other site I use in the area at £10 a night in peak season for one person, but has more facilities, albeit that I do not choose to use them

I've been coming to this site now for over twenty years! It's in a beautiful location 5 or 10 minutes to the beaches, shopping centre you are in the middle of a forest plenty of places to walk, places for the kids to play everything you want is close by. The only gripes I've had about the site is the basic shower facilities.

We visited Burnbake Campsite for one night on a busy, sunny weekend in June. We arrived early evening and spent some time trying to find somewhere to park up and ended up in the treeline but had a private spot.
We enjoyed the relaxed and laid back nature to the campsite - we didn't pay until the following morning!
You're allowed open fires at this campsite which is unusual but encouraged later nights around the campfire and the site was one of the noisiest we've stayed at but was not a negative.
The facilities were simple but clean and even though the site was full, there was no queuing for showers in the morning.
The only downside of this site for us was the lack of a prebooking facility. As we have a campervan we left the campsite in the morning and when we returned later in the day the site was full - so just a tip if you plan to stay for the weekend - leave a driveaway awning pitched!
Definitely would stopover at this site again, for the campfires if nothing else!

Just returned from Burnbake campsite today. I Stayed since Friday until Sunday and I have to say I loved every minute of it. I Love how you get greeted by the kind campsite staff and everyone around.
Its just such a laid back campsite you just have a great time lots of rope swings for the kids and a big park!
As I went with a friend in my 2 person tent we are looking into buying a eight person tent as we love the space and it will just be great. We are also coming back there as soon as we have got the tent!

Just returned from this site myself and my 6yr old son.
Arrived just after midday, drove around and found a pitch, remembering the 6 metre rule displayed all around the site.
This site is situated between the turn off for Swanage and Corfe Castle road. Then down a single track road and turn off to the right through the centre of the open field group camping fields. Into the main wood/forest area where we pitched. Various areas choosing from poen, shady and part shaded pitches depending when you arrive as it is a pitch and pay site.
Their is a shop which sells most of the emergency/forgotten things. For this year there is also a snack hut selling tea/coffee, cream teas, pizzas, chips and other food, All at a reasonable price if you did not fancy cooking one night. Run by a very friendly couple. Did`nt get their names.
There is a cycle nearby that goes to Studland and in the other direction to Norden and then onto Wareham, we did the Studland one although it does come out onto the Swanage road!
Swanage is just under 3miles with a Co-op and its beaches, Corfe Castle is about 2 1/2miles, some nice pubs there with Wareham 7miles away with pubs, river walk, a Co-op and Sainsburys.
Facilities are good and are pretty much central thou they do close down between 11 and 1pm for their daily cleaning.
Your rent is collected in the evening or 1st thing in the morning by friendly wardens.
I certainly would use it again.

Just returned from Burnbake campsite and had a fantastic time. Went with a friend and our two small children and all the main boxes were ticked.
We pitched next to a stream by the woods which was a lovely setting (expect mosquito bites). It was a couple of minutes walk into the woods to find wood as fires were allowed (in a pit off the ground) which was a nice touch.
The staff were helpful and very laid back. I've read other reviews about rules not being enforced and I can see this being an issue when the site is busier. This summer has been very wet and seems to have put off a lot of campers so it was not full. I didn't see any staff late at night to ensure the curfew was in place and some pitches were very close so I think it would be a different experience at peak times.
However I have no complaints with our stay. It is geared towards families and lots of children are roaming about so don't choose it if you are looking for a quiet break. My daughter loved the rope swings and small play area as well as meeting other kids.
The shop is open for a couple of hours morning and evening. It is small but useful with food, drinks, fuel and sweets on sale. They'll also charge your mobile phone for a donation to charity. Ice packs can be frozen over night for a small charge.
Showers & toilets were ok. Not too busy and fairly clean. Lots of drinking water taps around the site.
Location is good. 20 mins from Swanage or Studland (by car) in either direction.
Found neighbouring campers to be very helpful and well mannered which made our stay enjoyable. I've been to a couple of sites in Swanage recently and this is certainly the best I have found for families. Will be going back next year.

We found this site absolutely perfect. The site itself was clean and well presented and in a lovely wooded glade. The toilets and shower block were clean, well maintained and better than one or two hotels we've stayed in. On site shop was perfect for our immediate needs. Swannage only a 10 min drive away for supermarket. Staff were lovely, friendly, helpful. Took our dog and she loved the woods and forest, had the best walk of her life. Will DEFINITELY return there, possibly many times. I am unable to criticise this site in any way at all.

Burnbake is a fabulous campsite which I have been going to for years. Its close enough to the beach; a 20 minute cycle through a lovely flat part of the forest.
You are allowed fires off the ground, there is a well stocked shop on site and a great pizza yurt cafe in the evenings. The staff were great this year.
Everything about the site was just right this year, as it nearly always is!

We have used this site since the 1970s, first with our children and now with our grandchildren. The site is excellent for safe away from it all family camping. Most campers are very friendly, chatty and sharing. Occasionally you can find one or two who are not, but the friendly supportive staff deal with them quietly and professionally.
The event field can be intrusive with unwelcome music, but usually does stop around 11pm. You do need to realise camp fires are okay as long as they are off the ground and that a few other campers do not like your smoke, but that said the children always enjoy a camp fire.
Toilet and shower facilities do get stretched at busy times, but daily cleaning and restocking provides a basic standard. Camp site rules are limited to the fires off the ground, quiet after 10. 30 and camping 6 metres away from your neighbour.
The site shop opens morning and evening providing basic essentials. There are adequate disposal and washing up facilities. Being in a wood away from the road is a bonus especially for the children.
Facilities nearby include Studland with sand beach, pub, and NT cafe; Corfe Castle with lots of facilities, a castle and a steam railway. Swanage is 10 minutes drive away should you wish to go to town.
However with heathland, woodland and beach close by why do you need to bother? Just don't tell too many people where this site is!
