Lovely back to basics camping, everyone is very friendly and helpful. Even the other campers, kids are well behaved, adventure playground is good but gets muddy in all this summer weather, so pack your wellies, can be a bit lively at night, but because most campers have kids with them it was quiet by 11. Croissants from on site shop, early in the morning were lovely.

Facilities are great we only paid £15 a night, for the 3 of us. There is a Yurt on the site, smelled lovely, but you need to book.

Many things tp see locally, we went to Swanage &

Corfe Castle is just down the road, great if you belong to th Nat Trust, expensive if you don't.

We went to Lulworth Castle, they had a special medival event on, superb, swords and helmets a resonable price. Only go If event is on, makes the entrance fee worthwhile, take a picnic.

I would definitaly return to Burnbake next year, but with a bigger tent, so we could survive the British summers weather.

Great little campsite. We were planning staying just two nights but liked it so much we added a third. Great for kids as they can go ferral and just wonder back when wet or hungry. There is also a playground set in the trees where they can all gather.

The location is also fantastic for walks around the Isle of Purbeck - don't forget your OS map.

The shop was well stocked, the staff very friendly and the facilities were clean and functional.

My only criticisms are that there seemed to be a bit of litter around and the septic tanks were a bit smelly if the wind was in the wrong direction. Other than that really nice.

We visited over the weekend of 11 - 14th July 2008.

Compared to previous years, substantial improvements were noted to the showers and washing up facilities. The water is now much warmer (too hot actually!) but if I had one criticism, it would be that having purchased a shower card for 25p for five minutes, if you climb into the draughty outdoor showers and somebody turns up at the same time to do their washing up in that block - the shower goes off, leaving you in the shower with bubbles all over your hair or whatever, only one card, and no means of washing it off!

Lights around the washing up areas would be useful, so that you don't have to grope around in the dark. One tip, the sinks at the front of the blocks have better access to the hot water, the one at the back - you have to pull a string to fill a bucket with hot water and take it to your sink.

The toilets were cleaner than I have seen them previously and am pleased to see that they have painted the floor and at last provided liquid hand soap - mind you only one dispenser to eight sinks which is a bit tight, but a vast improvement and much more hygenic. However, I slipped and fell on the wet ladies room floor, so beware if it's wet.

*The site was nice and peaceful, a few rowdy groups, but you come to expect that at weekends.

*Shop well stocked and staff helpful.

*Kids area improved a little.

*Helpful staff.

*Reasonable fees, though not sure what you are paying for, as you have to pay for your showers in addition!

*Loads of wild rabbits on the site, look out for them at night

Otherwise, just as unspoilt and beautiful as ever.

This is a very basic site and to be honest that is its appeal you are not going to get all the bells and whistles when, in my case, paying £12.50 per night for myself and 3 children.

As mentioned before by others the pitches are very informal which suites me and the group that I camped with; a friend organises an annual Dad's camping weekend which ends up with 8 or 9 dads their tents and a campervan which we are able to pitch in a circle to provide a focal point in the middle for an open fire (this year someone brought their chimnea, fires ar enot allowe unless in a conatiner and raised!)

All the children thoroughly enjoy the freedom to roam and the nature of the site means that you can relax and let them get on with exploring and building camps and collecting firewood - basically all the things we took for granted and enjoyed as children growing up that for various reasons we are unable to let this generation enjoy.

The toilet block does get muddy but I have stayed in alot worse and generally the shower / toilet block was clean and well stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet roll.

If you like your creature comforts and can't be organised enough to pack essentials in a coolbox then I suggest go elsewhere, but if you like getting back to basics then this is the campsite for you and there are plenty of National Trust beaches around for the children and Swanage and Wareham are not too far away.

In conclusion I have to say I and the children (9, 6 and 3)love this campsite and have stayed two years in a row and we are intending to visit again next year.

Have just returned from a weeks camping at Burnbake which we have all really enjoyed. The site is very relaxed and friendly, there are no set pitches you just choose a space you like the look of. There are pitches under the trees, by the stream, or in the open but still broken up by trees. The site is very well placed for visiting Studland beach about 25 mins away. My two children disappeared everyday on adventures in the woods or trying to cross the stream on the various bridges or logs and swinging from the rope swings. The camp shop was well stocked with camping supplies and food, although no fruit or veg but this could be bought in Corfe which is very close. By the time we were ready to leave we had received help to get our van out of the mud from some eager chaps and had in turn helped someone whose car battery was flat. The site really has a nice friendly feel to it definitely good for families. Everybody settled down by about 10 pm even on the Bank holiday so there were no problems. You can have Pizza in a Yurt which was fantastic the lady who runs it makes a great chilli. My only criticism would be the showers, you have to buy cards 25p for 5 mins not very long time if you have long hair and some of the cubicles were open to the elements and chilli!. They could also spend more time cleaning the shower and toilet blocks as the floors were always muddy. I would definitely return next year.

Just got back from a Bank Holiday weekend at Burnbake. This is probably our 5th or 6th stay at the site. We booked late for the bank holiday (booking essential for bank holidays, the only time they take bookings, and full up about a month before the weekend) and the only space they had left was the events field. I was a little concerned about being in the field, as we'd always found a space in the wooded area in the past - but the concerns were unfounded. They'd setup several clusters of portaloos throughout the events field, and the atmosphere was just a great as within the main part of the campsite.

This is definitely a family site - there are kids everywhere, and plenty for them to do (assuming they don't expect a swimming pool or amusement arcade on-site!). It's safe to let them just wander around and our eldest (5) loved just playing on the rope swings.

Probably very little the staff can do about it (other than permanently cleaning the place through the morning rush), but the toilets and showers do get very muddy under-foot - just one of the perils of such a natural campsite, in my opinion, but I did hear other people complaining about it.

The shop is great - it's only tiny but seems to have everything you'd want, from camping essentials that you forgot, to penny sweets for the kids. They do freeze ice-blocks for you, but advise getting to the shop early if the site is full - their freezer was full on Saturday by 9:30am, and they couldn't take any more blocks for freezing until the next day.

No-one seems to have mentioned the Yurt Cafe yet - we saw them building it about a year ago, and although we've not tried it yet, it looks good. They open twice a day (breakfast and evening), and seem to do basic wholesome food, including pizzas in the evenings. There's only a few tables in the cafe tent, so they advise booking, or (as we'd probably do), they say they do takeaway.

Definitely recommended, and I'm sure we'll continue to come here for many years to come.

Visited this site over Easter. Two adults and four children. However I was a bit disappointed with the site. Despite being high season the shop didn’t open, so we had to drive to get supplies and the morning paper. There is nothing anywhere near the site, which will certainly appeal to some.
Toilets always clean and showers operate via a card. 30p each or 4 for £1, however we had a problem with one card, but was refused a refund as the card had been marked. It had been marked because we’d tried to use it. Wasn’t very pleased with this.
The first night we had a tent peg disappear, but as we’d pitched in almost dark, we assumed we’d missed the guy. However, same thing happened second night as well. After second night we discovered several others had lost pegs. So beware of the phantom peg pincher!
Kids enjoyed the freedom of the site and loved looking to see which rope swing to go on next.
There was a large group pitched down the far end of the site and while they didn’t bother us, they were a bit loud and they drove little buggy’s thru the site. We also had trouble on our last night with noise from group behind us. The owner, who comes round each morning and night to collect his rent, did ask them to leave.
We spent lots of time in Swanage; car parking was free on the sea front until May 1st. Corfe castle is a short drive as is the lovely beaches at Studland. Free parking for National trust members. Kids really enjoyed crabbing here and at Swanage.
Had a lovely holiday but doubt we’d return as it simply wasn’t our cup of tea.

We have returned from a 3 day trip here after reading the reviews. It certainly lived up to all of them. We pitched in the wooded area next to a stream, and my 3 boys (10,8,6)were in and out of it all day, completely happy to amuse themselves. We also enjoyed cycling to the beaches at Studland - it took about 45 minutes, through beautiful heathland, plus about half a mile on the Ferry road.
The showers and toilets were basic but functional, and the staff laid-back and helpful. The site was quiet while we were there midweek, but others said it had been very busy at the weekend (and we are not into main school holidays yet).
I would definitely consider returning here.

 What a great campsite!

We stayed here over the Easter weekend and we have had such a great time. There is a real easy feel to this campsite it was nice going to bed to the sound of people laughing and camp fires flickering through the tent. We turned up and found a really nice spot then pitched our tents and went out for the afternoon it's a real Central site it's near to Swanage which is a really nice seaside town. We will be returning again this year!

Stayed for 4 nights after bank holiday with my 10 and 12 year olds.

I have never in my entire life seen so many filthy dirty, minging, smelly, mud caked, happy, smiling, well behaved, ecstatic, laughing, friendly children!  They all managed to fall off the rope swings into the stream and, apart from a few younger ones, found it hilarious.

By dusk, when many campfires were burning, the most noise was children squealing with delight as they were led on ghost walks and bear hunts by their parents.  This died down completely by 9 pm as they all fell soundly asleep totally exhausted from their busy day exploring the beautiful woods.

We enjoyed fantastic food cooked on the open fire - try cooking a whole chicken on a gas ring! (take something metal and some bricks to stand it on for safety, and don't forget your saw for the logs).

Showers and loo's basic but clean and functional, although I was told they had been woefully inadequate over the very busy bank holiday.  The site was still busy, but not overcrowded.

Can't wait to go back!
