Visited on August Bank Holiday and pre-booked, which can be done for certain bank holidays. Site was full and there were definitely plenty of tents. However, didn't really see any evidence of any 'crossed' guy ropes and although we seemed to arrive after everybody else, we found a space large enough and far enough from our neighbours without too much of a problem. Would definitely recommend getting up early (7.30am) for the showers as there was a queue from around 8am onwards and my partner even found all of the men's toilets busy when he needed to go in the morning. Apart from this, this is a fantastic campsite. Kids have a great time here and are free to swing from the rope swings and fly around on their bikes and get muddy in the streams. Get to the shop early for the great pastries in the mornings and make sure you take any beer or wine with you as the nearest shop is a good 15 minutes drive and the nearest pub an hour walk. (TThis is the Bankes Arms in Studland which serves food all day in the summer and is very good food for the price; beware: it is prepared very quickly; usually around 10 minutes from order time). The woods and walks and cycle tracks around are fantastic and Studland Beach is around an hour's walk. Definitely a 'groups' campsite, with lots of friends and families camped up with gazebos. However, everyone was respectful and there was hardly any noise after 11pm.

Stayed for the week leading up to the Bank Holiday. Had a great stay and found the site to be fantastic. I loved the easy going feel about the place, not at all regimented like some other sites. The toilets and showers, whilst a little dated, were kept clean throughout. My kids loved playing in the woods and our evenings were spent toasting marshmallows on our BBQ / campfire. Fires were allowed providing they were contained within a BBQ (for some this was interpreted as a sheet of corrugated iron on bricks). I would certainly recommend this site and we will definitely be returning next year, however we will avoid the Bank Holiday.

This was our first camping holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The campsite is lovely and shady and the children loved the rope swings over the stream. It was a little worrying crossing the rickety bridge the the loos in the dark though. The campsite was very busy and I didn't like how close our neighbours campfire seemed to be to our tent. This was a site where just about everyone lit a fire in the evening. There was loads to do in Dorset. I would certainly recommend the Tank Museum. However forget finding space on a beach on August bank Holiday! I would certainly return to this site.

Arrived on a Wednesday to a beautiful quiet and tranquil site same Thursday and most of Friday, but by 6pm Fri it had gone mad, people were just pitching tents wherever to the extent that people arrived back from days out with nowhere to park their cars, guy ropes were crossing other tents in some instances. Absolute chaos! Toilets and showers were still kept clean and after trouble on the Saturday night from a group of teens they were dealt with and told to leave early Sunday morning. By Sunday night the site was back to only a few tents. I have to say though I would definitely return it would only be for Sun through Thurs nights as Fri and Sat were totally out of control bedlam.

This is the nearest campsite for Studland beach that I am aware of. It provides a lovely wooded, shaded area that's divided up by all the shrubs, trees and streams therefore providing a little more privacy. No booking required, just turn up and someone will come round in the morning to collect your money. No caravans allowed. The streams are both a positive and a negative. The kids love playing on the rope swings over them and the little bridges across them provide a novel way of accessing the showers/toilets. But it also attracts a lot of mosquito's and flies - so be sure to pack the repellent! The rustic showers are good (token operated) and each come with a small changing area. They're not very powerful so it takes some time to get the soap off but at least it's always hot. The sinks provide soap and plugs and hot water is available from a small boiler that you can quickly heat up and fill a bucket for use. There are about 4 sinks to do the washing up with plenty of hot water available. Beautiful Studland beach is about a 5 minute drive away with designated BBQ areas and bins. Dogs allowed. A drop toilet is available at the car park - hold your nose! Finally and an ice-cream man will come along in his boat along the shoreline to supply everyone with ice-creams and drinks! A great campsite for sunny weather and days at the beach. 8/10

This is a great site - if you want old-fashioned family camping, with adequate basic facilities but without bars, restaurants, heated swimming pools etc then this is for you.
We went mid-week just before most school hols, without booking, so it was quiet-ish; the showers and loos were clean, plenty of them, and there was plenty of hot water for washing-up as well as a washing machine and dryer. The shop is small but useful - only open a couple of hours a day - but very happy to re-freeze freezer blocks for you which is great.
Lots of the site is wooded and you can choose your pitch - there were older kids building rope swings and dens in the woods. Great site for children who are happy to make their own entertainment - nowhere near busy roads - our 3 year old happily rode his new bike around the paths and enjoyed watching birds and squirrels. Quiet at night apart from one big group of middle-aged drinkers who had to be asked to stop loudly talking outside at gone midnight!
You'd need a car or bikes to get to pubs, shops etc but as long as you are driving/cycling then it's ideally placed for the beaches at Studland and Swanage, as well as Corfe Castle and the steam railway.
Lots of the people we spoke to had been going there for years, and we could see why - we may well go back!

Fantastic campsite. Just what we were looking for. The facilities were kept clean. The site shop was small but always seemed to have what we needed and the site staff were very friendly and helpful. We went with two young children and they loved playing in the woods and chasing the squirrels and birds. If you are looking for a traditional style campsite with nature all around then this is for you. So much to do in the surrounding area too. We will definitely be returning.

What a great place! After reading all the previous reviews, we decided to give Burnbake a go and were very pleased we did! Myself, husband and 2 daughters (5 and 2) found a great pitch in the woods, close enough to the toilets/showers etc. If you are going in a group, you can pre-book, but will be put in a large field next to the woods; otherwise everyone else can pitch where they like.
The toilets & showers are 'rustic' but perfectly fine (shower cards 30p each for 5 mins, or £1 for 4 cards). The staff were really lovely and helpful - and during the school holidays the cafe opens to serve THE most fantastic organic meals (great if children want to eat early!). The shop opens at 8.30, stocking all the usual, plus fresh bread, rolls, croissants, pastries etc! No need to take the fridge, just take the cold box and hand in the freezer blocks to the shop to re-freeze each day (FAB service!).
All in all, a great place which we have already recommended to friends (who are going this weekend!). Finally, being 5 miles from Studland Bay beaches, it's a great base for a family.

Although it was a bank holiday weekend, the ticketing system ensured that there was ample room for us to pitch our 2 large tents. Nowhere is far from the amenity blocks (which are a little on the old fashioned side but adequate)and the staff were really friendly. It has the feel of camping rough but with all the modern conveniences within a short stroll! Slight problem with the tickets for the showers in that they sometimes failed and the hot water at the washing up posts not great (boil a kettle and take it with you!)Most of the campers were considerate when it came to noise and proximity of pitching their tents, but there are always the odd ones who forget that tents don't have walls! We would definitely revisit this place as it is so well situated for the Studland beaches (dogs allowed on South Beach in high season)and Corfe.
