August 2005 1st time campers - we found this site to be exceptional. Very basic and is as described on the web site, staff are friendly, site nice and clean, also very child friendly. The only downfall being 1st time campers was that when we arrived there was no-one on site to explain the proceedures. Overall - we were very impressed and we will definitely return next year.

August 2005 We have just come back from a week at Burnbake and will definitely be going back again! Very friendly and laid back site. Toilets and showers were fine, plenty of hot water for washing up too! My kids loved exploring the woods and I felt totally relaxed knowing they would be safe and could not stray too far. The only thing I would say is that they do not enforce the dogs on a lead rule or the 20ft between tents rule. We came back from the beach one day to find a trailer tent sited less than 8ft away from us. Even though the site full sign was up it was ignored. Great place though

June 2005 Burnbake campsite is amazing!.... I have been camping there since I was 2 and I have fond memories of adventures in the woods or making wig wams and rope swings! Burnbake hasn't changed a bit since I first remember going there which is what I love about it!
I love the layed back style that ensures you a worry free holiday and is safe for children! The shower block is adequate and there is alwaysw hot water and plenty of space! It truly is an amazing place in England!

June 2005 Lovely relaxed campsite in a beautiful location. Young and friendly staff. Toilets/showers could have been cleaner but I never had to wait even though the site was busy during whit week. I managed to camp in the woods which was magical. The kids here were having a ball running around and riding bikes. If you like an unregimented, free and easy, live and let live place Burnbake is for you.....

May 2004 Brilliant visit, yes the showers and toilets are not spotless but that is more than compensated for by the site. Quiet, animals, lizards, owls and of course the sika stag who shouts all night. Brilliant site staff who had good knowledge of local walks.

August 2004 This site is the best site I have ever been on along with Doward Park in Symonds Yat!
It is a pitch were you like take it easy kind of place - no caravans - we were in a motorhome but spent all our time outside it sitting out at night - it is lovely.
The toilets and showers are fine - you pay for these tokens which last five minutes which is more than enough. It really is in the middle of nowhere, my son and my husband went for a walk by the stream and through the wood and saw a deer cross a trail and jump the fence!!
The shop is well stocked - they had sold out of choclatines by 8.38 - opens at 8.30!!! Get up early to get them or croissants, Danishes, crusty bread or doughnuts. The owner was really helpful and there was usually always someone around.
If you like the outdoors - you are allowed open fires but off the ground -with little regimentation then this is the place for you.
We will definitely go back! Deb

September 2004 Just returned from a wonderfull week at Burnbake. This site is a real campsite. The shop and showers are built in wood and has an American feel about it. We had the whole woods to ourselves. Apart from having our chocalate biscuits stolen by some squirrels (In stiped shirts), the wildlife noises were lovely to hear. The owls and the deer were quite loud in the night, and we suffered a large thunderstorm, which added to the exitement. The staff (Joe) was very friendly and made sure that we were still alive in the morning!
There are fantastic walks right from the campsite, so we didn't use the car once. We will certainly be returning in the near future

August 2004 Returned to this site during the August Bank Holiday after a break of some 5 years. Not much had changed which is comforting as we much prefer the back to basics camping, small shop, no club or bar on site. The only downside was that although a new shower and washing up block had been built, the original block was looking a bit tired and could have done with a bit more cleaning / upgrade. This wasn't helped by it being a Bank Holiday and the site being full to the extent that the adjacent field was being utilised. That said, we will still be going back for the long weekends next year as being situated in a forest there is ample space for children to let off steam without affecting other campers.

August 2004 Wonderful cosy feel as you can't see most of the camp due to the trees and glades. Only saw the kids at meal times, camp was full of families. Will take wellies for kids next time as rope swing across stream gets a bit muddy. Site was relatively quiet after 11'ish. Small fires allowed if in containers off the ground, lots of people using disposable BBQ containers on housbricks. Shop was well stocked, didn't need to go to CO-OP in Swanage. Showers were actually too hot for me, (no temperature ajustment) but I think it depends on the time of day. Will be going again for BH weekend

August 2004 We visited Burnbake for the first time on the recommendation of some friends. We had a wonderful time, but I do have some reservations which I wanted to share with you all.
1) As you don't have to register your arrival and nobody keeps an eye on where the tents are pitched, you could come back from a day out, as we did, to find that somebody has pitched a tent six feet from your own, despite the few signs reminding everyone that tents must be a minimum of 20' apart.
2) The toilet blocks could be a lot cleaner. It doesn't appear that the owners have discovered cleaning chemicals, a quick wipe round seems to be as much as the wash facilities & toilets get. Toilet & wash facilities spartan, not nearly clean enough & badly in need of refurbishment.
3) There are no lights in the washing up area. With the nights creeping in, take your lantern with you to wash up. This seems daft, as it would take a competent DIYer about 30 minutes to rig up a light with a PIR sensor there.
4) Hot water supply for washing dishes and showers sporadic. Hot water for washing up too cold and very slow running, for the showers, too hot and just a dribble. Seems they were having big troubles with the hot water when we were there, hope by now that they have solved them.
5) Take more than one shower card into the shower with you - many don't work.
6) No advisory speed limit for traffic on the site - keep an eye on your children as there are some maniacs out there.
7) Despite regular signs saying SITE FULL at the entrance this is clearly ignored and newcomers who have ignored the signs are not moved on.
On the positive side, the kids have a fabulous time in the woods and riding their bikes around. It was a perfect adventure for them. All these concerns aside, we would probably give the site another try another time.
