April 2004 We were a camping group of two mums and four children (aged 5, 4, 3 & 18 months). We went the week after Easter, and the site was virtually empty! Apparently not many people camp in April!
The toilet and shower block were basic but clean. Free hot water for washing up. The shop doesnt open until May.
The site was fantastic. The woods provide endless opportunities for meandering, paddling in the stream, swinging on rope swings and collecting firewood.
We would recommend a trip to Studland beach - a most beautiful sandy beach, owned by the NT, with a tea shop.
We will definitely be going back again.

Easter 2004 Apr 9-11th Due to an early Easter, the ground hadn't had time to dry out, so unfortunatly, no matter where you pitched it was extremely muddy underfoot! The facilities where clean and well stocked (never had to use our own toilet roll, always plenty to hand!) The showers use a card system (20p for 5mins) and were a little hit and miss. The main problem of this site is in the early season, there are no onsite wardens during the night, and for 2 nights we were kept awake til the early hours by the innappropriately loud drunken shennanigans of a large group nearby.

Last visit: May 2003 Burnbake is one of those special places where you just have to keep going back for more. If you're lucky enough to find a pitch in the woods, it's a real adventure sort of place, with loads of wildlife all around your tent, day and night. There is so much to do in the surrounding area too. The forest paths are ideal for cycling or walking and lead all the way to Studland Bay. Walk in the other direction up to Nine Barrow Down for spectacular views across Purbeck and Poole Harbour. Now all you have to do is decide whether to walk East to Ballard Down, Old Harry Rocks and on a clear day a view to The Needles and the Isle of Wight, or West to Corfe Castle and a well deserved pint at one of the many excellent watering holes to be found there before visiting the castle ruins. You can even take a ride, part of the way at least (Harmans Cross), back to the campsite on the Swanage steam railway for a real blast from the past. Enjoy!

August 2003 This site is kids heaven! No pools, no playgrounds (unless you count a couple of tyre swings and some campsite provided and homemade rope swings dotted around the place.) but a stream and lots of trees. My 5 year old son and I have just spent 2.5 blissful weeks here pitched under a canopy of birch and pine trees and can honestly say he wasn't bored for a second. Easy cycling to two sandy beaches and less easy to a number of rocky coves where we spent hours catching small fish and shrimps. Site facilities are adequate as mentioned by previous reviewers but the general friendliness of both the staff and fellow campers was exceptional. Can't wait until next summer when I hope we'll be back for the entire holidays.

may 2003 What a great site, have been here several times now. Park your tent where you want , in the trees , next to a stream. Its always quiet and none of those nasty caravans with tellies blasting out. Its the cheapest site I've ever been to , facilities are not 5 star , you pay for your pitch in the evening when a little man comes around and you buy shower cards, 20p last 5 mins, you get the odd one that dosent work but that adds to the fun . A little shop opens a couple hours in the morning and evening , you can even order croissants/papers for the next morning. If you like the back to basics and dont want kids clubs and arcades and just want to relax and visit Corfe Castle, wareham and all the surrounding stuff , this is the place to stay.

July 2002 First English campsite I can rave about.
This place is for nature and tree lovers. Set in woodland (NOT a bit fat stretch of lawn) where each site could feel secluded. Ponies (wild?) came right up to the fence next to our tent, much to the youngsters' delight (and mine).
"Playpark" is a tyre on a chain around a sturdy branch( 2 of) and a few swings (rope with a log at the end) dotted around the site or else explore the walks & stream that run through the site. Loud music is not tolerated. Down to earth feel - even the facilities are in wooden cabins.
The shop is excellent, seemed to have all we needed (incl o/s map, sleeping bag & blowup mattress!!), people who run it very friendly and helpful. Freezer packs replaced 2x p.day. Freshly baked bread every morning (order night before to be sure to get one, I was told by one regular).
Showers (30p for 5 minutes) are a bit hit & miss - I had one really wonderful & one terrible shower (drip-drip). I am told by a regular (many of those) that the trick is to take a bucket of hot water with you into the cubicle.
Barbeque fires are allowed "off the ground". Lots of kindling wood/pine cones around
Great surroundings. Near Corfe Castle. We cycled to Shell beach (1 hour with toddler in front) through forest & heathland. Breathtaking.
Will definitely be returning. It's a fantastic spot if you like to be surrounded by trees. I am almost reluctant to recommended it so that we can keep this gem secret to ourselves.
PS - No caravans.

What a lovely site! Lots of little enclaves in between trees and streams. Great location for Studland Bay. Can't really remember the toilets so they must have be OK. It's a real gem but because of that it gets busy at peak weeks and weekends and as we camp with friends it's a stress about getting enough space. Caravan free zones available and it is really one of the only places in the world this townie gets to hear silence!
