We chose this site on the recommendation of a friend, who told me it was a friendly family atmosphere with reasonable pricing.
Upon arrival we were disappointed by the crowding, but found a spot to pitch our tent after a short search. The neighbours were friendly enough, though rather rowdy which upset my youngest daughter (8).
The showers were hot and well regulated, but I was rather dismayed to see the cleaner smoking in front of the children, and worse some young teens smoking outside by the washing up area.
The shop was convenient and reasonably priced, but I was overcharged on a number of occasions and had to set the record straight. The cashier was apologetic about this, but I was none too impressed with the campsite owners who were uninterested in this when I brought it up, more keen on collecting their rent for the night.
Overall the holiday was pleasant enough, but I shall not be returning to the site as I'm not happy with its management and the influences my children were exposed to.

Got back from what could have been a very wet weekend camping here. When we turned up mid afternoon on Friday in pouring rain we started to wonder if we'd picked the right campsite as there were signs all over saying 'no campfires', slightly annoying as this was our one criteria.
After not having a fire Friday night, Saturday morning we found in very small print on a small notice by the toilets that fires were permitted if raised off the ground, so after finding an old washing machine drum in the trees and purchasing a bag of charcoal from the site shop (they don't sell bags of wood and we weren't sure how amenable they'd be to us collecting bits of local tree) we did manage to stay slightly warmer.
The site became quite busy on the Saturday but not over crowded, toilets and showers were clean and in good working order. We did get told off for playing on the swings, but I suppose at our age we should have known better. There was a good mix of groups, families and solos on the site and we weren't judged for being an all male group of late twenties which made a change.
It's a bit off the beaten track and we didn't see information about local pubs or shops so just ended up driving into Swanage, a bit of a shame as it would have been nicer to shop and drink locally.
Pricing was reasonable, though the guy who came round to collect our cash didn't quote us a price we just made him an offer.

We had an enjoyable weekend at Burnbake. The toilets were clean and the site was quiet by 11pm.
The downside for us was the amount of people burning wood fires. Smoke was too much for us and we stank of it. Our new tent was covered by ash every morning and it stayed up despite the children tripping up over the guy lines every 5 minutes.
Corfe Castle was only 2 miles away and worth a visit and so was the Swanage Steam Railway.
Another good attraction to visit was the Tank Museum at Bovington Camp. You can spend a good few hours there on a wet day looking at the many exhibits.

I don't do camping well, I'm slowly getting the right stuff around me with a lot of trial and error so getting there. I read many reviews on this site and was reluctant to try it from the reviews as most spoke of excessive noise from the adjoining events field.
It was raining and nearly dark when we arrived so the mood was further worsened by this and the noise from the events field as they had a music event on. Not good so far.
The music stopped at 11, and apart from a field of students making noise, this was cancelled by the earplugs, all was improving.
The ground was soft and level and able to take a peg, the drainage was wonderful, the facilities, while basic were more than adequate, and the shop was small but seemed to stock everything you would want in an emergency and a few luxuries.
The site is easy to find and the staff friendly.
I still don't like camping but this site was one of the better ones I will return, with a better tent.
Kids will like the safe freedom and the tyre swings, and the small playground.

I have visited this site many times before and have had mixed problems with noise, free range kids and close pitchers.
However, some improvements have been put in place. There are now tighter rules about dogs on leads, fires off the ground night time quiet. We are warned by notices to be quiet from 10.30 and one of the girls came round at 11 to tell rowdy / loud groups to keep it down. It seems to work and I have just returned after a night of undisturbed sleep from 11 pm to 8.30 this morning. Wonderful! That's what you need when you have been so busy all day and evening as a single mum on camp.
However, the toilets still cannot cope with the amount of campers. There is no space to do your morning ablutions and the same problem in the evening. I turned round to get my toothpaste one evening and found somebody else had pinched my sink with all my stuff on it in less than one second. I gave up trying to brush my hair in front of the mirror and just stuck a hat on.
The toilet rolls and hand towel in the ladies ran out every evening so there was none at the busiest times - last thing at night and first thing in the morning. So not good to jump into the loo, wash your hands without soap (as that runs out out too fast) and then find that you cannot even wipe the bacteria off your hands, as there is no towels left.
The extra pressure put on the facilities by the use of both sides of the fields for such big groups is ridiculous. I left today because I couldn't face having to share the ladies with so many extra bodies night and tomorrow.
I hope that the planning application at the entrance is to put in another set of toilet and shower blocks, because they are badly needed. Fingers crossed!

The first time I went camping was at Burnbake when I was 8 we went with friends for two nights and we camped in the forest. I am now 12. I am writing a review to show the site through a child's perspective. My mum and dad are so NOT camping people but their view was changed when we discovered Burnbake.
We are a big family there are 4 kids I am the oldest. We have a Coleman Mckenzie 8. It's a great tent with a built in groundsheet. It has 4 bedrooms and a nice sized living space for rainy days.
The sight is wonderful. It is quite large. It has a field for groups. There are porta-loos but it takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to the main facilities. You can camp in the the forest but the part of the forest behind the shop and toilet block gets very smelly because of the septic tank. There is an extremely large forest area behind the shop it's great for walking dogs and there are many swings tied to the trees! The main field is the best place to camp it's full of families and nearest to the facilities.
The facilities are good; the shop is well stocked but it does not sell alcohol. It opens 8-10.30 and 5-7.30. You can charge your phone, freeze your ice packs and buy all the necessary things. The shower block is nothing special but it is cleaned regularly it has a hair dryer. There are outside showers as well. There are plenty of washing up sinks you have to get hot water in the bucket but that's fine! Lots of children do the washing up in return for their sweet money! There are loads of swings tied to the trees. They are fabulous. The fun NEVER ends. All of us kids go of together with the older ones looking after the younger ones. All the kids keep in touch via facebook or email!
Burnbake is in a lovely area. It is close to Corfe castle which is a national trust ruin. Definitely worth a visit! Wareham is near as well there is a big sainsburys which is were we do the food shopping it has a river and its got lots of nice shops. Swanage is near which has 2 AMAZING fish and chip shops and a lovely beach. The shops are great Curiosity is amazing a bit girly but very good value.
Burnbake is full of people who have been going for 30 years. You make friends straight away. It's great for families and I highly recommend it!

Myself and my partner went to this campsite and were very suprised with how sheltered it is. It is very nicely situated in the heart of a forest and because of this it rarely gets any wind blowing through your tents. The site is located off the beaten track.
There is a small shop, toilets, fresh water and showers that you pay for with a little card you can purchase from the shop.
In the local area is a castle, and as it is very near to the shore you can go to the beach or take a trip on the ferry over to Poole.
Generally the campsite was well run and inexpensive, well worth a visit.

Sadly wasn't very impressed with our very recent stay.
Even though it was the end of the season and some wear to the ground is expected, there wasn't a blade of grass on the site. The dust from our first day turned into mud on our second.
In the 'lane' we managed to get a pitch, the tents were pitched close together, it was sheltered, we couldn't see the sky and there was no view.
It was very noisy. There were kids everywhere. There doesn't seem to be a specific area for them, there were ropes strung to almost every tree for kids to play on and they did! We also had a large group of rowdy young men arrive who decided to play football until the early hours. When somebody shouted from a tent for them to keep the noise down, he was told to '**** off'
The tokens didn't work in the showers, so it was wash down time for us! The shop was expensive. There were not enough mens toilet facilities and queues formed. The Ladies was the same.
We couldn't get signals on our mobile phones.
The upside of this site is that it's close to the beautiful Purbeck Hills with it's lovely countryside and gorgeous beaches.

An August Bank Holiday weekend has to be a true test for any campsite, Burnbake was up to the challenge and made a good go of it.
Burnbake don’t usually take bookings however did have a booking system for the Bank Holiday. This is where they got it right. They control the number of campers and keep to a reasonable total. It’s fair to say the site was busy but there was room to breathe and the facilities were able to cope.
We were a party of three families and pitched in the event field just outside the main wood. The field is just about flat and the ground was good. There were extra portaloos and this eased the load on the main facilities (plus making the midnight toilet dash less of a distance). The main facilities are decent. Plenty of showers (buy cards from the shop for 5 minutes, price was reasonable), decent number of wash-ups, plenty of toilets and a surprisingly good shop opening for 2 hours in the morning and afternoon. Bearing in mind the sheer number of people, the facilities coped. I didn’t see queues although we do avoid going at peak times for showers and such like. One or two people did comment the hot water struggled at busy times.
The site itself is very pleasant, woodland with children free to roam and explore. The playground is basic however the wood and stream are excellent. The on site shop covers most basic needs. Site prices are reasonable and the facilities reflect the charge.
It’s around a 15 minute drive to Swanage and the site is about 1 mile from the nearest significant road. Fine with a car, perhaps a struggle by foot. The surrounding area is fabulous. Lots of lovely walks and cycle rides. Plenty of nearby beaches within easy driving distance. Plenty of other attractions to visit such as Corfe Castle. There is no pub or restaurant within walking distance although an on site Yurt sells pizza, cooked breakfast and such like.
We really enjoyed camping at Burnbake. They were well organised and we would go again.

Well, this was our second visit to this campsite and once again we weren't disappointed.
There is nothing really to dislike about this site. Great scenery, level pitches, friendly staff and a safe environment to let the children off the leash!
We never had any problems with hot water running out ( if in doubt getting to the showers before 7ish both a.M and p.M helps!)
Contrary to one review we found the staff and owner more than willing to crack the whip, frequently warning dog owners to keep their pets on the lead.
The first night we stayed we had to put up with a group of rude and intimidating young people partying until about 3a.M. Even after polite requests from other campers. The owner threw them off site the following morning and told them not to come back!
There are loads of places for the children to explore (mine are 6,10 and 13). Even the teenager couldn't find anything to moan about and it wasn't uncommon for the children to disappear for the whole day, just returning when hunger got the better of them! (most annoying when you are trying to go out for the day) or for swarms of children to descend upon our tent of an evening, sticks in hand wanting marshmallows to toast on the camp fire!
My daughter turned 10 whilst we were at Burnbake and so we had a little party for her and her 'camping friends'. She said it was the best birthday ever and wants her party there again next year.
We also went with friends who were first time campers, according to them it was the first time for a long time where they felt able to totally relax without having to worry about the children getting lost/ touching things they shouldn't/ going places they shouldn't etc. A place where children can be children and adults can chill out.
The only downsides are;
1)No mobile signal for Orange users (T mob users get some and not sure about other providers)
2)There is only one (top loading) washer which doesn't work wonderfully well and seems to just spread the dirt around rather than wash it away!(there is a laundrette in Swanage however)
3) er.Can't think of anything else!
The location means you do need a car but if you can take some bikes to explore with.
This isn't the place for luxury camping but it is a brilliant place for families wanting to relax
Oh, and remember if you are having a (raised) camp fire pine cones are natures charcoal (and they are free too!)
