Beechwood Park is one of the best Lodge Parks we have stayed at. The facilities were top class and the owners Colin and Sharon, and the staff were all very friendly.
We arrived to a friendly welcome, and on being directed to our Lodge, we found it to be clean, warm and tidy.
We found Beechwood to be a well laid out site and the Lodges backed onto Lakes with some fabulous wildlife – Swans, Geese, Ducks etc. We even saw a Kingfisher during our stay which the Children loved.
On exploring further afield, we found The Harrington Arms just a 20 minute walk away, and enjoyed a lovely meal there.
Beechwood Park is a quiet site set in beautiful countryside. As well as the Lodges, it is also a Caravan Site, and we took the opportunity to check out the Caravanning facilities for a future visit. The Toilet Block was amazing – the best we have seen anywhere in England!
Overall, we could not fault any part of our stay at Beechwood. We will definitely be returning, either in a Lodge, or with our own touring caravan. We will also be recommending Beechwood Park to all our friends.

Attended the July Braai here and although the site was very packed, especially the EHU field we managed to pitch two large tents linked to event shelter.
Lovely quiet site even given the amount of people attending, very clean site and the toilet block was spotless, just short on showers, unless up stupid early there were ques.
Only niggle from ladies was no loo roll a lot of time, but then who goes camping without a supply :)
By the end of weekend a large pile or rubbish had accumulated but this soon went on monday morning, as most left on the monday they were constantly going round with quad bike and trailer collecting rubbish from everyone as they packed away.
Would not hesitate to go back again, very happy with the site

First impressions were good, the surrounding Derbyshire countryside is quiet, you would never know that you are close to all major road networks. On arrival (5pm) on Friday afternoon the campsite reception was closed, two phone numbers were written on a board. The chap was friendly enough directing us to pitch our motorhome anywhere on the top field and to come back in the morning to pay. The top field was very busy but enough space was available to pitch in relative comfort. Toilet/shower blocks are unisex, clean and relatively new but unfortunately not numerous enough to cope with demand resulting in long queues at peak times. The pitches are not marked out but are all flat with lovely views of the countryside and there are clearly lots of full timers living in caravans, however there is no play area for children. The go kart track was advertised as being open on the website, on arrival we were advised that it would be open in 2015!
There are plenty Fishing lakes and a well stocked fishing shop, I am not a fisherman but bought a cheap rod/net from the shop. The fishing shop owner offered no advice to me and my three children we were just told to find a place on a lake and somebody would be round to collect the 3 pound fee. To our surprise we caught a fish, the fish was very big and we struggled to get the fish to shore but eventually we did. The warden/bailiff appeared, but rather than help us he shouted at us for not using the correct hooks. I was not aware of this requirement and tried to explain, however he continued with his verbal assault swearing at me in front of the children. We placed the fish back in the water very much alive and decided to to call it a day. We promptly stopped fishing and returned to our camper somewhat disappointed.
Overall a nice campsite with lots of potential let down by poor customer service. No doubt a great campsite for the keen fisherman, not so great for our family.

Stayed in one of their log cabins for a 3 night stay.
Nice cabin.
You have £10 put on the electric metre for you this is payable when you make payment.
Will last you the full time of your stay.
Good if you like fishing (be aware of the geese) they love to attack you!
The camping caravan field looked ok with plenty of hook up point's.
Would like to give it a try with the tent.
The owner was friendly enough even gave me a call saying he would be off site.
There are a dozen or so caravans where people appear to be living permanently there.

Our second visit to this site (did June 2012). Had 2 tents pitched and a Gazebo. The couple who run it are laid back and left us 'to it'. We only saw them collecting money and had no 'constant visits' as other people mention. The toilet/shower area was 'satisfactory. A pub in the village walking distance and shops not far. Quiet site for chilling the children made their own entertainment as not a lot to do (but we like it that way)

We have used this site on and off for a few years and although the shower and toilets have improved the welcome hasn't. We arrived an hour early on a very quiet weekend and was told we should not be here till 12 and we asked was it ok to stay, the owner did not look to pleased and then said yes, but was not happy, we felt that all weekend she was walking around checking who else was with us as they charged us before for guests in the past, it will be a long time before we visit again.

This was our first trip away this year, we used to stay at Elvaston Castle caravan club site but that has now closed, it was really convenient for visiting family in Nottingham so we were really pleased to find a site in a similar location.
As others have said, when you first arrive it is not clear what this site wants to be, there are two rows of very old caravans that appear to be lived in. They are tucked out of the way though and caused no problems. The site is obviously used a lot for fishing but there are also log cabins and some lived in caravans on the main field. The main field has plenty of hook ups and is flat and open. There is a main reception with a small cafe and a shop.
Not far up the road there is a co-op and a fab indian restaurant that does take away.
There are the usual waste disposal points and drinking water, though I'm not sure how you would cope if the site were busy as there seemed to be only a couple of waste points. The weekend was very cold and the site was pretty quiet but even so the rubbish collection area was really poor, it was over flowing when we arrived and by the Monday there was extra rubbish piled up next to the bins.
The owners had obviously spent a lot of money on the toilets, both male and female loos and the showers are in one building. The toilets are very nice, really nicely decorated and plenty of them. However, the showers were not great. There are only three showers, shared by both sexes. They are 'wet rooms' rather than cubicles and we found that the floor got wet all round the room giving you no where to get dry, the floor was freezing and the shower was luke warm, it was also push button which I absolutely hate. I realise that being economical with water is a must on sites but these push showers are horrible. The floor was really dirty as you had to walk into the room with outdoor shoes on, there was a mop and bucket but that was filthy too. Not a pleasant experience.
All in all, the site was ok, there is nothing for kids to do but Elvaston Csstle is only 5 minutes walk away and is lovely. The site is very easy to get to, within easy reach of the M1. Its a little pricey for what you get and I wouldn't personally fancy it during the busy season. We do tend to stay on club sites so we have probably been a bit spoilt.
Definitely a good site to stay on for a weekend or when there are special things on at the castle.

We have been to this site a few times and always loved it. This time it was different, so amazed at the amount of dead fish in the lakes and one morning we watched the truck go round the lakes and netted 12 rather large dead fish.
Think that this is being over fished lately and the fish are not getting having time to recover properly. It is a shame as we love this site. Everything else was fine as usual.

Really liked this site!
Liked the open field feel as we went with another family we could be facing each other.
The shower blocks were fab, really clean and music playing and free!
I feel that this site could really do with a clubhouse and park as there is not a lot for kids as it has a lot of log cabins and also a lot of pitches for tourers and tents. There is nothing close by ie shops and pubs. Although you can go across the road for a walk round Alverston Castle and also the Go Karts were never up and running.
The fishing lakes were always busy.
That said, I felt that it was very reasonably priced and would go back again

We stayed at this campsite 2 years ago as near to our relatives in Derby. This time we stayed for 1 week. The toilet block is still fantastic and looked after by a very friendly couple who have a caravan close by on the camping area. The pitch tariff was reasonable. However the site is let down by the advertised facilities being absent. The Go carts were not running at all during the week. The laundry was closed as washing machine out of order (for quite some time as standing outside rusting) The cafe was only open on days someone available to run it, and short on supplies. The shop could be improved by selling basic food supplies. The nearest alternative shop was a mile away in Borrowash.
Rubbish disposal was very limited as no provision of bins in the camping area.
We paid £3. 00 per night for our dog, but no facilities such as poo bins provided.
The ground is very stony and hard, so make sure you have strong pegs.
This site is ideal for fishing, with purpose dug lakes which also enhances the scenic appeal of the site.
Very close to Elvaston Castle Park a Derby Council Park which has interesting gardens and parklands. The House is closed and very run down awaiting development.
