Booked into this site as I have friends in the area and just wanted a couple of days away near them. First impressions were that it looked like a site for travellers- there were a lot of scruffy caravans and a lot of contractors on the site with vans and they left the site early in the morning which you couldn't help but hear. The ground for tents is very uneven and dirty with some litter and the remains of camp fires strewn on the ground, the grass had not been cut for a while either.
There was no hot water either for washing or doing the pots in the whole time we were stayed, 3 days. The pot washing room was not cleaned the whole time we were there and there was rubbish stacked up on the drainers. The toilets and showers were dirty, it was almost impossible to regulate the temperatures on the showers and it went from scalding hot to very cold in an instant meaning that I couldn't let my children have a shower. There was also quite a lot of road noise at night from busy roads nearby, it kept me awake until about 1am the first night, though the site itself is quiet.
I wouldn't recommend this site which is sad, as with a bit of a tidy up on the site and some care and cleaning it would be a good site. On the plus side Elvaston park itself is a fab day out and lots of nice walks that all the family can enjoy and it only costs 80p for parking all day.

Fantastic weekend had by all. Managed to get an entire field to ourselves despite it being quite busy, very relaxed about where you pitch. Amenities were basic but good, not enough showers for really busy times but ok for off peak. Only problem we encountered was the hard ground!, bring a mallet for your tent pegs. Will be going back.

May 2005 Lovely site - clean and friendly with nice layout. Tent pitches on slightly uneven ground but grass well cut. Two hot showers and well maintained toilets but no hot water in pot room. Mosquites did get us so take some cream. Very close to lovely country park and although close to M1 and Derby felt away from it all. Will be going back.

May 2005 Really nice site - the welcome was very friendly and the site is well laide out and well drained (important if you are in a trailer tent!!) lots of electric hookups on grass (another plus for trailer tents as well as caravans), good facilities for pot washing and toilets/showers, and though we didn't have time to try the Go-Karts this time we'll be back. Excellent location - Elvaston castle country park just round the corner (just go to loo at the campsite not at the park!! Trust me!) and all the amenities of Borrowash and Derby within 10 mins. Ideal location and lovely site

This is a great site for couples, families and groups. We have been a few dozen times since May 2001 and have never been disappointed.
The toilet block is clean and warm and there are ample pot and clothes washing facilities too. Tents, Caravans and Motorhomes are all well catered for with ample flat well drained space and electric hook ups if required.
If you are into fishing then this is certainly the site for you as it has it's own extensive fishing lakes and from what I can tell more are under construction right now.
If you aren't into fishing then there are plenty of other attractions within easy reach. American Adventure, Elvaston castle, Donnington Race Course and The Heights of Abraham to name but a few.
If you don't feel like straying far from the site there is also a Go Cart track which is always a big hit with kids of all ages, even the really big ones.
All this and the site is less than 10 minutes from Junction 25 of the M1 and just a couple of minutes drive from the small town of Borrowash where you can find a well stocked supermarket and plenty of fast food takeaways which are always handy if you are arriving late.
