Arrived on site, nobody present to meet or greet. Sign on the reception door to ring a number. When the owner appeared he asked "What can I do for you?", nice friendly greeting! We were offered to pitch our caravan ON the roundabout as this was the only hard surface! Payment was requested to be cash in hand but we didn't have enough cash so the owner was forced to take payment over the phone by card.
The site is very untidy, the grass on the touring area was very long and clearly had not been cut for some time, the roads around the site are full of pot holes and in urgent need of repairs.
The site had the initial appearance of being a travellers site and when I asked if there were travellers on site I was told to keep my voice down???? My later assumption was the main occupants of the site appear to be trades people with their vans living in caravans. The lodges around the site seem to be occupied by families using them for living in, as opposed to tourists.
The toilet block is freezing cold with no heating on and the door left open by the trades people although to be fair, once the hot water actually starts its nice although not enough showers or toilets for the potential number of pitches.
The entrance to the site has overgrown large conifer trees on one side and can be tricky to manoeuvre your touring caravan round. We were not given a site map, no information on fire fighting equipment, rubbish bins or elsan disposal, although the bins and elsan are there you have to find them for yourself.
Would I return, definitely not!

Very quiet, lots of space and very friendly.
The short track to the Kingfisher touring field could do with a new surface as it was a tad bumpy.
The toilet block was exceptional, one of the best that we have visited. Great hot showers!
There is no pressure from the site owners Colin and Sharon who were most helpful.

Beechwood is a big and busy site, but in a lovely area. Not the most peaceful location, so if you want to live like a Trappist monk it wont be your cup of tea, but we have organised a couple of camping rallies here, and have found the owners friendly and helpful. They work long hours, and have to deal with some very difficult people. The rally field is flat, and drains well. The facilities near the entrance to the site are older, but up at the other end of the site is a very modern and spacious toilet and shower block. Sharon also cooks a lovely and very reasonably priced breakfasts at weekends.

Just returned from 3 day break at this caravan park.
Very disappointed. I found communication with the owners / wardens very poor. No email or text of confirmation of my booking. Had to ring on the day to see if pitch was still available. On arriving at the site had to ring again to say we had arrived but there was no answer had to ring another number. Was told to go to kingfisher field where we would be shown to our pitch. That was all good. You are given no map of site to say where facilities were. And no receipt of payment. On sat night a big group of people in tents were having a bit of a party. This started from about 5pm, the very loud music and then someone trying to sing and play guitar till midnight. They carried on shouting and swearing up till about 1. 30am. They was parents with younger children who were crying because off all the noise.
This site obviously doesn't have a noise curfew.
I would not recommend this site to fellow caravanners who want a peaceful site.
There is also no signs to tell you where to leave your rubbish.
Will not be returning

We went for a couple of days whilst the weather was so hot and because there was a football match on at Pride Park which my husband wanted to attend. The campsite was easy to find and although we did not see anyone on arrival we phoned the number and were directed to a pitch. The campsite was quiet and well kept and the Shower/Toilet block was one of the nicest I have seen - Always clean toilets with lights and radio music playing on entry at all hours (makes it a bit less eerie in the middle of the night) and hot showers with door hooks and a chair. We found a cycle route which started opposite the campsite and went through Alveston Castle and along the river all the way to Pride Park and then on into the centre of Derby, meaning we could cycle without having to go on the roads. We also cycled back the same way at night (make sure you have decent bike lights). Plenty of nice real ale pubs in Derby. Note that they did not take card payment at the campsite.

Overall, we were disappointed by our stay. We had just had a four night stay on a site 30 miles away, that also charged £20 per unit per night. Beechwood was far inferior in every way.
The greeting that we received was hostile, bordering on rude and abrupt. I had made the mistake of calling ourselves 'campers' rather than campervanners. The owner only seemed interested in getting her £60 fee for the next 3 nights. No pleasantries or showing us to our pitch or informing us of any local facilities; we paid up and didn't see her again.
On entry to the site we were faced with many old and permanent caravans. This was not a problem but does not have the same kind of atmosphere as a holiday site. The field for tourers was further in to the site and more pleasant than first appearances
The pitch was small and uncared for, grass very long, with weeds and nettles at back of pitch. Washrooms were ok but not heated (as suggested in previous reviews). Because the vent axia was not working windows and doors were left open to air the place which made it cold. Showers were ok but as there were only 3 uni sex showers, I doubt that the facilities would be sufficient at busier times of the year. Although the showers/toilets were not old, I feel that the owners were allowing the fabric of the building to deteriorate; damp causing mould on windows, rust on mirrors; a pity.
Litter bins well distant from the pot washing area.
Constant drone of distant traffic but not a problem.
I feel that if we had been greeted in a pleasant manner, my whole view of the site may well have been more positive.
Good site for fishermen.
Lots of great cycle routes nearby

Lovely friendly family run site. Clean facilities, disabled wet room, hair dryer. Fishing lakes, resident chickens and geese. Nice little cafe filled with information. Lodges looked very inviting. Never felt over full throughout the high seasons. Walking distance of elvaston castle. Short drive to derby and Nottingham. Owners had time for my young children. Lovely, well kept site, lovely staff, and an enjoyable long stay. My family returned many many times. Apart from the on site shop (open weekends), there's a lovely pub within walking distance.

We came here for a 2 night break close to home as it was our first outing with our new folding camp site, both son and partner love fishing. There was 6 beautiful fishing ponds, the fisherman were all really friendly and happy to share tips. The field was flat clean and plenty of space, really happy with the whole experience but the highlight was the loos! now I'm not one to get excited about a loo but these we amazing more like hotel toilets and music playing quietly was a nice touch very clean and warm 10/10. Pot washing clean and inside so nice and warm (being april it was chilly!) and was in a good location across the road was elvaston castle and huge adsa 5 min drive, we will definitely return again brilliant site. As a fishing site not really set up to cater for children unless theyre fishing but we saw that as a plus.
