Busy site with it being in the August holidays, plenty of groups camping but noise wasn't an issue.
Plenty of ace walks nearby.
Toilets and showers were always clean.

Had a fabulous time despite the worst storm encountered in over 40yrs of camping.
Communal areas were spotlessly clean.
Field is relatively flat.
It's a working farm and everyone was very friendly.
Beautiful fresh eggs.
Only minor blip was it's £1 for just 3 minutes shower. Not quite long enough.
Would I go again? Oh yes already planning next trip.

Been coming here over many years. Lovely family who welcome us back.
Can’t beat getting back to nature, lovely views, great walks, will be back for many more years.
Toilets are cleaned regularly, all sinks, showers very clean.
Quite a hike to the shops so stock up.

Fantastic trip again, we have been going several years now and there is nothing you can fault about the place.
The toilets are clean and never a queue, the showers are always hot and powerful.
The walks and scenery are amazing.
The owners are always friendly and helpful.
Definitely recommend it and worth a trip.

Lovely quiet site road down to the farm, a little bumpy with not many passing places
Only 1 shower in toilet blocks and no running hot water in the outside wash up area
Some lovely walks shop 10 mins away by car and pub at top of road only opens Thu to Sunday
But all in all a good few days

Rowter Farm is a lovely campsite set in a fantastic location offering miles of rolling countryside to either sit and enjoy, or hit the hills walking.
From the initial email enquiry through to meeting the team, everything was handled professionally and politely. On arrival I met a lady who took our £6 per person per night fee, she explained where things were, and I had a look in the small shop which stocks the basics and essentials.
The site allows you to have fires, bbq's, ball games, basically everything a traditional campsite should do.
The field is square and large, with another field through a further gate. You can pitch where you like and there is tons of space in the middles for games and a picnic bench for people to gather together.
The facilities are made of one shower and one toilet (gents) and the shower was a pound and you got plenty of time and there was loads of hot water. The rest of the facilities, including the wash up area, were nice and clean adn we never experienced any problems. You can also charge your phone in the washing up room.
The site is close to Castleton which has a couple of pubs, some cool small shops and a grocery store. It is a short walk away, however it is very steep getting back, so be warned. In a car is a few minutes drive away.
The area is full of things to do if you like outdoor pursuits including walking, hiking, abseiling, para gliding, caving and so much more. The site is close to the public caverns which are great to see.
I won't repeat details of the walks from the site which are pretty well covered in the review below.
I will return to this site time and time again, it is awesome, perfectly placed and cheap enough to stay a month without breaking the bank.

Arrived here late on a Friday afternoon to a nearly empty site, which was fab, chose my pitch where I could get the evening sun and best views. The site quickly filled up over the weekend, but didn't get overly busy. The location is lovely, high up on the hills, with great views - however it is quite exposed to wind and rain if the weather is bad.
The entrance can be a bit tricky - they keep the gate shut off the main road as there are free range sheep, so you have to park up on the roadside, open the gate, and try and swing into the farm lane, it's a bit tight, all without letting the sheep escape! Would be much easier if you had someone with you of course, who could jump out and open / close the gate for you. Once you're on the farm lane, continue up for a while (dodging sheep!) and you'll come to the farm entrance on your left.
It's a farm site, so facilities are quite basic, but they were clean and the showers were hot. There are no hookups, but they have toilets, showers, recycling and it cost me £7 a night for one person with my dog (July outside school holidays). The shower costs £1 for a few minutes, which is plenty for me anyway! You pay at the farmhouse, where they also sell essentials like bread, milk, drinks (including alcoholic!) chocolate etc. Both people I dealt when paying etc were extremely friendly and helpful.
For me, it's all about location. This site is perfectly placed for walking, there are footpaths in all directions direct from site, it's fab. Turning one way from the entrance you can walk to Mam Tor, and along the Great Ridge and a big loop back around, an unmissable walk with amazing views and scenery.
Go the other way from the site entrance and the world's your oyster, paths in all directions. One day I walked down to Castleton through "Cave Dale" which is steep, wet and slippery with a stream running down it, and rocky, but with care it's a great walk (about 45 minutes to Castleton). You can walk down into Castleton via an alternative path across the fields, about 20 minutes, just be aware the way back is extremely steep!
Castleton has numerous pubs, gift shops etc and is of course really busy as it's the centre of many tourist attractions. One evening I got a taxi back to the campsite (as I'd had one too many ciders and couldn't face the hill!) - it cost just £5.
As I mentioned the site filled up over the weekend with groups of campers, but it wasn't at all rowdy, or noisy, and the facilities coped well. By Sunday it was empty again, absolute bliss.
Highly recommended, as long as you are prepared for basic facilities, the walking and location make up for any downsides!
