Stayed here in my campervan along with my 3 collies.

Lovely site with great views nr to Castleton.

The facilities are good for the size of site and I never had to queue for the shower however many people on site.

My only criticism was the big waste skip overflowing and not emptied so you had nowhere to put your rubbish and this also could encourage flies.

I ate out at the Cheddar Cheese in Castleton, great food. Pie had proper pastry :)also in Edale, The Nags Head, lovely food and proper homemade chips :)

Walks where do you start they are all around you. Ladybower, Derwent edge, Alport castle, Kinder scout, Mam tor.

We were grateful to get into this site as the lovely weather made the peaks very appealing to everyman and his dog. We rolled up at 7pm on Friday and we thought we were at Leeds festival. We struggled to find an area to set up camp and felt that the tents were all too close. Around 9pm the second field was opened. This should have been done earlier.

The facilities were basic but okay. I never had to wait too long to use the loos and showers but my husband did.

The campsite was loud with people playing music til the early hours.

We walked to Castleton which wasn't as easy as the lady at the campsite said. As the paths aren't very clear. It took about45 minutes. On the way back the hill is a killer!

I don't think we will be back. It is very cheap but it is too crowded and the owners didn't seem to care about noise.

A beautiful place. A real working livestock farm up above Castleton. The owners were very friendly and helpful (and busy rounding up sheep).

It was just me and the dog looking for a quiet site in a remote setting. We had a lovely stay and I am looking forward to returning as soon as I get the chance.

I stayed two nights, and loved it. I was there to do some walking and have a few pints, access to the hills is easy and there are a couple of routes to the village, though it is a long way uphill from the pub. Perfect. £5 a night.

Just back from a weekend at Rowter Farm.

Access is through Castleton village, past the Speedwell Cavern and then 2 left turns. Very handy for hikers wanting to climb Mam Tor, the caverns (Blue John and Speedwell are closest)of join in a spot of paragliding.

We went just for a quiet weekend away and chose well. The site is a working farm so has all the noises and smells of such. The owners are friendly and helpful. The camping field is to the left just before the main farmyard where you will book in and find clean toilets, personal washbasins, pot wash, showers and fresh tap water all of which were kept very clean. I do not know where you empty chemical toilets as we did not need this facility. Rubbish is disposed of via a closed skip at the entrance of the camping field. There are no electric hook ups just old fashioned basic camping.

The farmhouse sells fresh eggs (£1 for 6), uht milk, bbqs and charcoal, sweets etc.

Costs per night were £5 per adult and £3 per child.

In Castleton village there are a number of pubs, take aways, restaurants, outdoor shops and jewellery shops.

Would recommend a visit, especially in a tent/campervan as larger caravans may find access not too easy. Will visit again when the warmer nights return.

Two nights camp at an excellent camp site. The owners are very friendly, you can buy certain products(eggs etc) and snacks from their little shop.

Facilities include male and female toilets and shower and a wash area for clothes & pots. It simply is a basic camp site, no frills and all for a fiver a night.

Will be returning to this site every time I am in the area. No booking required, just turn up. Well done rowter farm

Personally, I love Rowter Farm. I have been several times with my family and we have become friends with the Hadfield family who run the farm. They are so friendly and everyone feels welcome and we have even been able to help bottle feeds lambs, calves and ride the quadbikes, as well as seeing lamb and calf births and ride their horses. Of course, this isn't possible for everyone, but it shows how welcoming they are.

The site is clean and has great views with a variety of a great walks and even paragliding! The local village is really cute, and I remember always buying sugar mice in one of the little shops. There is a river which is great for paddling and it even has some hungry ducks!

The campsite shop is always well stocked and so you wont go hungry. The overnight fee is pretty good and the facilities are clean, if basic.

I would thoroughly recommend a stay there, as it just makes you feel alive.

Have visited this site a few times before and like it a lot. The location is fantastic, especially for walking with Mam Tor on the doorstep. Especially busy this bank holiday weekend, we counted at least 90 tents across the 2 fields, which added to the queues for the shower (only 1 and 50p for a miserly 3 mins!) and the toilets and washing up room. I do question what we are paying site fees for when we also have to pay to have a shower? At least the hot water for pot washing is free! I would like the owners to maybe do a tour of the site around 10pm to enforce the no noise rule as we were bombarded with music from nearby tent until 11:30pm. All in all a great site in a great location and better visited on non bank holidays. Will definitely be back soon.

A great low cost campsite. We stayed for two nights and were very happy with our stay here. It is good to stay somewhere with such wonderful walking on the doorstep, Mam Tor is a must.

The shower was fine, one 50p was enough for me to shower and wash my hair. The only criticism would be the lack of loo roll. Probably best to take some with you.

We would definitely go back, a rustic working farm in a great location, not too busy or big.

For directions there is a green sign in Castleton directing you up Winnats Pass, go all the way to the top and turn left, you will then see another little green sign on the left, directing you through a gate. The farm is up the track and left.

Large open field site with plenty of room. Groups were there but no late night noise that I heard. Great views and easy access for loads of mountain biking if that's your thing.

The site could do with more showers. There are only 2 and you have to run around to get wet under the trickle of water!

£6 for one man, one tent, one car and 50p for a shower (50p piece only - be quick, showers don't stay on for long).

Overall, very happy with the site and I will be going back.

Field absolutely packed when we got there, struggled to find a space even though I had booked in advance. The facilities were incredibly basic, and not very clean. When it rained the exit to the field became one giant muddy puddle that you had to walk through every time you wanted to visit the toilets/sinks etc.

Lots of groups that played loud music/shouted late into the night (still going at 3 am ish). The owners didn't seem to care how many people turned up, or what they did whilst they were there.

We only stayed 2 nights, and it was 2 too many in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't go again - shame as it is a fabulous location and could be a real gem.
