This site is indeed difficult to find, but personally I find that a positive!
I stayed mid week, during summer holidays and there was about 5 tents on the whole field, so oodles of space.
It was windy, but then there's nothing like the wind in your face to remind you you're in the outdoors.
Facilities are basic, but clean and 50p for hot shower, what more do you need?
Its a great site for getting away from everything, remote setting and due to no lights/power a quiet dark night!
Good location for the hills, though its a respectable walk back from the pub.
Would happily visit again, but as mentioned it was quiet when I was there.

Basic amenities. 50p for a hot shower. Close to Winnat's Pass but very difficult to find due to very small sign. Also very exposed to winds. Long grass made the wet weather more unpleasant but £5 per night not bad.

Stayed at Rowter Farm over the Bank Holiday weekend and as previous reviewers mentioned the site was quiet on the Friday when we arrived but was soon packed on Saturday afternoon so get there early. Excellent solitude at this site and bang next to Mam Tor for all you walkers but again as previously mentioned a very exposed site with buffeting winds the norm I think. Queueing for the toilets became a little tiresome and for anyone with a shy bladder this will be a challenge as there is almost always someone watching you have a pee. However, all that said, had a good couple of days here but next time will choose somewhere with more conveniences and less wind.

I decided to take my family on our first camping trip. My brother in law recommended Rowter farm and he gave us very good directions although there was no signpost at the metal gates. After you have set up camp you go to the farm house and pay £4 per person and £2 per child per night, which is not a bad price. Facilities were basic ladies and gents toilets, wash rooms, showers with cold water although you can have hot water for 50p they also have a day room to sit and relax and a place to wash your pots. They have a farm shop which sells basics essentials like chocolate to keep kids quiet and eggs/bread and milk etc. It is a good walk to mam tor and other local amenities but thats what camping is all about so I have been told. Would go again probably for a night or two but not recommended for the week unless you like walking.

Just returned from the bank holiday weekend, what a campsite ! We arrived on Friday at 3pm to a 4 acre field with around 20 tents all pitched around the outside of the field. We joined them and went to explore. There were 2 ladies toilets very run down with spiders and cobwebs everywhere. 1 men's loo and 2 quite new showers. Feeling OK with the facilities to this point. By Saturday lunch time there were 91 tents and 3 caravans on the field. We had a tent with its guide ropes under our caravan with no means of getting our water tub out ! No exaggeration honest.! We could not use the loos or the showers, the queue was always very long. Fortunately for us we had our own facilities, we felt very sorry for those who were in tents with young families. It felt a little like camping in Glastonbury. Very young groups of teenagers and all male/female groups. Very noising even at 3am there were people wishing others a good night very loudly. The owners had no regard for the safety of us all it was a fire hazard waiting to happen. They were obviously wanting to make as much money as possible. The positives, lovely position , a bit windy but sheltered by the trees, Great spot for walking, very cheap, but I'm afraid I will not return there are equally nice campsites in Castleton with very good facilities.

Spent the weekend here, its a nice campsite. Its hard to find if you do not know the area. I found that the facilities were very clean and didn't find the walk from the tent to the toilet block that far unless you are at the far end of the field, there is plenty of fields to walk the dog nearby My only criticism would be the lack of rules we had a group of Uni students and teachers next to us who were extremely inconsiderate and came back from the pub at 12.30am then decided to light a fire and not even attempt to whisper when they were talking, maybe an 11.30pm curfew like some other campsites may be necessary however we wont let this put us off and are likely to return

Basic site. But perfect for those that don't NEED anything. No lighting on the field, no electric hook-up. The toilets were basic but clean and well stocked with toilet rolls and the lights work. What more can you ask for? The showers were clean although we didn't use them. There was plenty of room to pitch on the site. We went with a group of friends, 5 tents in all and had plenty of room for our own little area (Even if the scouting boys did think it would be clever to pitch in the 5 foot gap between the back of our cars and the wall.) My only slight criticism was that the grass was so long we were soaked from the knees down after putting the tents up. But as it is a working farm perhaps with all the lousy weather we've been having the owners just hadn't had time to get the tractor around the field and mow it down a bit. The site is difficult to find and maybe they could invest in a bigger sign at some point and attach it to the main gate. But then if EVERYONE knew it was there the rest of us wouldn't have as much room! A cracking little site as long as you remember to take everything you need! We'll be going back, you can't argue with less than a fiver a night!

WOW £4 is that all. Great little site, very basic, and a long walk from the pub, but made up for buy the very polite and helpful woman running the site. After our first choice had been rude and unhelpful this was a breath of fresh air. The only criticism is the lack of signage and gated road which made it hard to get to.

This site, as already mentioned, is very Hard to find! I stayed there for two nights and unfortunately cannot say that I would stay there again. The toilets are quite a walk from the camp site and not a walk that I would care to attempt in the dark! Especially to the ladies toilets, two of, which are just at the side of the house and felt rather secluded. There are pot washing facilities which I found to be dirty and untidy. I had to wash out the sink and drainer myself before I could use them. The hot water was merely a trickle and was rarely hot. In the ladies wash room there was a towel for hand drying that was there on our arrival on Friday tea time and still there by Saturday tea time. Dogs are allowed on the site and ours are enjoyed the huge field to run around on. However, beware of the farm cat which likes to attack the dogs and it is not just a quick spit at them either. Although I did not speak much to the owners, I didn't get a warm, friendly feeling from them. It was £4 a night for adults and I forget how much it was for the children. What did surprise and anger me a little is that they charge you more if you are the only adult, not good for single parents! I suppose this site is alright if all the others in the area are booked and you really want to go. Especially if there are quite a few of you meeting up, as it is a large field with plenty of space.
