I wanted a quick camping fix and decided on this site for a weekend break as it was only a 35 minute drive from home - allowing my husband to join me easily (if so inclined) after leaving work on Friday night.
The site is easy to find but, there is a bit of tricky junction to negotiate from the main road both ways - particularly if towing. I was greeted very efficiently at Reception - although someone had made an error and booked me in as 'grass only' when I had paid for EHU. This was quickly resolved.
I had a limited choice of pitches for a small tent with EHU - but picked a spot on what was termed 'the quieter area' nearish to Reception and the first facilities block, by a line of trees for some shade (it was a sweltering weekend). This backed onto the approach road but, after the rushhour rat-runs (not really busy) this road was quite quiet.
I had pitch 121 but noticed that there could be one in front of me also - which would have been cosy - but I'm wondering how often that would happen as the overall site is large.
The site is surprisingly expansive as I discovered on my circuits - 1. 25m around the site perimeter roads but, it is broken into tree edged 'paddock' areas each with a name. Caravans and motor homes are well-catered for with lots of hardstandings plus some grass only pitches. Most tents seemed to be in the further fields - the rally one and near the pond - although there was an enclave towards the centre with some trees providing morning shelter (I wish I'd had the option of one of those but I'm not sure they had EHU - it's not obvious from the site plan at Reception either - I looked several times for a potential future visit).
The whole site is really level, although as said the roads are a bit uneven in places. You are only allowed one car per pitch but, second cars can be left outside or on a grass area near to the children's play area (safer than it sounds as they have oodles of space and separated from the road by a hedgerow.
Watch out for children on bikes - the site is large and they enjoyed the freedom this gave to roam unfettered.
The pitches are open, not delineated by bushes or low fences as in some places which enhances the open aspect of the site, and there are lots of trees - including a little wood in the centre which seemed a Mecca for little explorers.
The two facility blocks have a good number of loos and washbasins but the number of showers (3 in each in the women's) seemed a bit low for the size of the site - although I didn't queue I could imagine one might at popular times.
The cleaning rota meant there was a 30-minute time slot where both were shut at the same time. Curious. The owners are making an effort with some floral displays which lifted the look (a bit of colour is always good and makes it look more loved and less functional) and there are some benches and picnic tables sprinkled near Reception in the sun.
My husband had too much work to do so opted to stay home after all, leaving me to fly solo. The site staff seemed aware of this and it felt kept an eye out for me - which felt good. They seemed friendly but busy (a hot weekend in June) and I cannot thank them enough for tracking down my mini pepper-mill that had dropped from my bag when packing to leave and not discovered until my return home.
I used to work in Hertford so it felt a bit odd to visit as a 'tourist' but there is quite a lot to offer the visitor both in the county town (which is small given it's significance to the county) and also in Ware. Lots of pretty old buildings.
I walked from the site to the town - a 15-minute walk downhill - and then along the banks of the river to Ware - an easy flat stroll beside water meadows and the river (I spotted an egret but not the elusive kingfisher this time) and numerous baby water fowl and vessels. A round trip without any refreshment stops (there are plenty in both towns) took me 2. 5 hours. Ware Priory gardens are worth a visit (and there's an open air pool).
There is an overriding background drone of the A10 and A414 which is most evident at night and when doing the walk above but, that said, the site is generally peaceful and I spent a very pleasant two nights there, sharing the stars coming out, and full moon coming up with a bunny family (so cute), a pheasant, bats, owls and birds.
I would recommend but, hideaway and small it is not.

Stayed over a weekend in mid May on a hardstanding pitch with electricity which was dead level and a good size to sit outside our 5. 99m campervan with the side awning deployed.
The polite receptionist dealt with us efficiently and guided us to our preferred well marked pitch.
Like most other roads in the country, the one running through the site is potholed and requires attention. Because we'd had lots of rain that weekend, the holes caused more trouble for me at night. The site is not well lit after dark and I didn't take a torch. Consequently, on my way to the toilet block late on, I was stepping into one deep puddle after another! Forewarned is forearmed!
The toilet block itself is functional but a bit unloved and would benefit from being updated.
The main reason for our visit was undoubtedly its location. A short walk gets you into Hertford town centre where there are numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants plus a rail link to London.
It's a peaceful site but within walking distance of a busy town. Ideal for a fit couple.

We as a family of 2 adults and 2 children camped in the rally field from Friday to Sunday as part of a large organised group. The 2 toilet blocks are large and well maintained, they are cleaned regularly.
The park area consists of a climbing den with a slide & 2 swings, the rest of the area is open grass which we felt was quite basic for a site of this size. Hertford is only a 10 minute walk from the site although we didn't visit ourselves.
All in all it was a nice site and we enjoyed our stay, the only complaint would be the condition of the road towards the back of the site around the rally filed as some of the pot holes are quite large.

Very nice quiet pretty site and showers very clean. I was happy on the site until I was informed that I was driving too fast. This was ridiculous for two reasons. 1) I am a very careful driver and 2) the roads on the site are totally full of Pot holes filled with water.
It is impossible to drive over 5 mph without destroying your vehicle's shock absorbers. There Is also no one way traffic system which is a requirement of the most basic safe traffic system.
I am now not a happy camper!

We stayed at Hertford C&CC site as part of a Karsten tent rally. We pitched at the back of this large site, near a pond (which is safely fenced for those with children). The site is flat and is separated by trees and hedging into several large fields. This gives the site an open natural feel, as many areas are solely grass pitches, great for tent campers.
Two toilet blocks, although we only ventured into the one nearest at the back of the site. Showers were just as you would want them, thermostatic turn controls and no push button. Curtain to separate you and dry clothes from the shower, and a clothes hook and fold down seat. Separate sink and toilet cubicles. Indoor pot wash in the same block with plenty of sinks and a bin. All clean as you would expect from a C&CC site.
As well as the camping fields, there is a large playing field with kids playground, and the rally field (we didn't stay on the rally field as we wanted electric hook up). The hook up posts are lit. There is gated access to Balls Park via the rally field.
A few negatives. The only rubbish point is by the site entrance, this is a trek from the back of the site. Some sections of the site roads could do with repairing ruts etc. You are warned on arrival about the squirrels. We kept our food in the car not the tent. A visitor had had a squirrel eat its way into their bedroom inner tent the night before we arrived and we had a guy line eaten through during the night.
We visited Hatfield House which has a playground, farm park, shops and cafe, and there is a handy Tesco close to the site in Hertford (5 mins by car). We plan to return in future and use this site as a base for visiting London.

Visited as part of Karsten rally & was pitched at back of site next to pond & rally field. What a great site. Plenty of toilets & showers in 2 separate blocks. Lots of trees which separated the site into sections.
16amp EHU. Lots of moorhens, rabbits & squirrels about, so be careful with leaving food about.
Tescos nearby & town of Hertford nearby which has plenty of green spaces & can recommend food at The Old Barge.
All in all very impressed with the site, great facilities & one we would return to.
One small niggle is the rubbish bins are only at entrance to the site, which is a trek if pitched at back of site

Just back from 5 nights at Hertford and I have to say we loved it. We were on the back part of the site behind the second facilities block. It was quiet, we were surrounded by trees, there were Moorhens walking past. On the pond there were about 10 tiny Moorhen chicks.
The facilities are exactly as you would expect for a C&CC site, always clean, plenty of hot water and the showers were controllable so you could select your own temperature
There is a large field set aside for kids, with some play equipment and goal posts. But there are so many wooded areas with paths through that there is plenty of space for them to run around and play.
We walked to Hertford East station (25 mins) and took the train into London (50 mins) on 3 days. A taxi back to the campsite cost about £4. 50-5. 00 early evening but £6 at almost 11pm. There is a Tesco right by the station so easy to pop in for food before getting a taxi back
We will without doubt be back again which is the way I like to feel when leaving a site

Hertford Camping And Caravanning Club Site is a large site, but quite rural given it's proximity to the town.
A friendly welcome and our hardstanding pitch was level and fine for our needs, but a touch on the narrow side. I was also disappointed to find quite a lot of litter just dumped in the hedge behind the pitch. The toilet and shower facilities are in two blocks at strategic locations around the site, one of which was closed during our visit.
The facilities themselves were clean and perfectly adequate. Showers are OK, and free, but have no individual temperature control – they’re warm. If you like a hot or cold shower or are particularly fussy then you might be disappointed. The only rubbish disposal area we found was right next to reception - A few more wouldn't go amiss, especially in high season.
There's a pretty good looking playground for kids on the site, but not having our grandchildren with us this time we didn't get to check it out properly. There's also an on-site fast food outlet, but this was also closed during our stay.
The pitch cost us £27+ for one night for two adults and a teenager, which frankly wasn't good value for money. We've stopped at many other sites that have better facilities and paid less.
The site is about a mile walk from the centre of Hertford which is a pleasant town with all the shops, pubs and restaurants you could hope for (I'd particularly recommend the 'Old Siam' if you like Thai food).
In short - Nothing particularly wrong with the site (discounting the litter), but nothing to write home about. I'd expect more for the price.

This is a lovely wee site quite close to the M25 but surprisingly not that noisy. The site was well laid out.
Pitches nice and level. Toilets very clean as were the showers. The pleasant surprise were the semi tame rabbits roaming around the site.
There is an excellent dog walk. The only down side was that the nearest shops were over 1 1/2 miles away and the nearest pub even further away.

Huge site, plenty of room, friendly staff.
Hertford a fair walk away, lovely town but a short bike or car ride away.
On site fast food which is freshly cooked.
Looks like a very family friendly site.
Showers, toilets etc clean and no 10 second buttons anywhere which was really nice.
