Spent two nights over the early May bank holiday. Staff were friendly even though it was busy. The site is very large with a rally field. There is plenty of room for children to play. There were two toilet blocks all modern with good facilities. Hertford is a 15/20 minute walk, with good pubs, I only drink real ale so I recommend the White Horse or the Old cross tavern. The only problem we found is that we were a long way from the toilet block and it was a bit of pain late at night going to the loo. All in all a very nice site, will definitely be going back.

Stayed at this site in May 2007.
The site is large but well kept and lots of space for children to play and "explore" away from caravans and tents.
Facilities were clean and a useful array of information leaflets and local restaurant menus available.
The site is well away from roads, railways etc and very quiet.
Found Hertford town very frustrating though what with traffic, one way systems and dead ends! Then again we didnt go here for the town, simply to get away as everywhere else seemed to be full over the bank holiday weekend!
A good clean and well managed site.

St returned from this site. Got the family deal of £17.90 a night for us and our 4 kids plus £2.75 night hook-up. Nice big quite site (a few planes flying over but you get use to the noise) and plenty of clean toilets with lockable cubicle wash basins/mirrors for a wash-down plus 3 showers and plus a separate disability toilet/shower near the shop that is wonderful for a £5 deposit for the key if you have a blue badge. The campers were friendly and chatted. The washing-up facilities are inside and have 3 sink with plenty of hot water and very clean. Small shop sells milk, drinks and sweets but could not get bread (only bread to buy had to be cooked first). Nice little town (Hertford) to visit not 20 minute walk away or 5 minute drive but watch out for the one-way systems. Also a large Tesco’s there as well. Either hard standing or grass is available (just a few hard-standing pitches available). A good size field in the middle of the site for the kids to kick a ball around (as no ball games near the campers is allowed what-so-ever) but could do with more park things in there as only one baby swing and one junior swing and a slide. One water supply and bins fenced off section in each field. However, I don’t like the fact that the toilets are closed between 10.30am till 12noon for cleaning though. An afternoon time would be more suitable as people use the showers in the morning. Although there is another block to use 2 fields further up but too far for me to walk. My father-in-law turned up at 11am and there was no staff to attend to him till 12.04pm then was charged an extra £5 for being on site before midday as there is a £5 charge for being onsite before 12 midday or leave after midday. He would not have minded paying the extra if he could have pitched before 12noon but had to sit with us for an hour till being served at 12.04pm and getting pitched. All dogs have to be kept strictly on leads at all times but there is a lovely dogs walk and open field to let them run around…. OK if everyone abides to the rules as we was visited in our tent by a little westie dogs that was not ours……. There is a 5mile speed limit on the site at all times (if your caught) because of the children on the site

Stayed here during the Easter holidays: lovely weather so expected site to be busy and to pay full price but did not expect only one toilet block to be open and for all units to be packed in around this one facility. In addition staff were rude and unfriendly (with the exception of one lovely lady) and seemed only concerned with their cleaning routines. I would go back because I love this site and it's handy for visiting family but I think the needs of campers should be given priority over the needs of staff and I expect more from a club that prides itself on its reputation.

Just returned from the site - the longest distance we had yet travelled in our caravan.
We visited with two intentions: spending a day in London (5-year old son never having been there) and a day at Legoland (ditto). As such, we spent very little time on site.
Like others, we were guided to our pitch, which was hard-standing. The site was, certainly in the area where we were, a little scruffy - a lot of mud on the fields, and a lot of seasonal caravans and contractors living on the site.
However, the shower/toilet block was modern and clean, the shop carried basic needs, staff were friendly and helpful, etc. We walked into Hertford with ease - a medium size 24-hour Tesco being alongside Hertford East station.
We spent a day in London, travelling on Travelcards (4 of us for less than £25) including return train fare, and use of Tubes and Buses in London. We were able to get to Legoland with relative ease (jams on the M25 notwithstanding). The site was also about 10-15 mins away from the A1 (M), with the M1 another 10 mins beyond that.
A bit scruffy? yes. Would we return - yes. We spent little time on the site, and it did everything we wanted it to do, and some - and a very large play field for 14 year old son and his football!

We stayed at this campsite weekend of 18/19th March 06. Very scruffy site, a few nice hard standing pitches, but they were few and far between. There were alot of what looked like permanent caravans pitched up, where the grass had grown up round them and they didn't look like they got alot of use which made them unsightly, this really spoilt it. There was only one water point that we found in our area, which made it a complete pain. There are no pubs or restaurants near by, although the walk into Hertford is only 20 minutes away. I can fully recommend the White Horse in Castle Street and if you fancy an Indian then try Bollywood's, which is the first restaurant you come to as you walk into Hertford. On the Sunday morning, we went to the shop on site at 10.30am to get gas, the shop was just shutting and the warden was most disgruntled at having to go out of his way to assist us, f'ing and blinding at the top of his voice.

Was escorted to pitch and was very happy to hear that all tents and caravans must be 6 metres apart. Showers and toilets are immaculate also the showers have proper doors not curtains. Water is very hot so be careful when washing. 3 sinks in the washing up area and it is also indoors so it was appealing when it was cold outdoors! Tents and caravans are all mixed together which is nice. Didn't use the onsite shop but did get a camping gas refill for £10.
Not too much road traffic noise, did hear a lot of aeroplane noise so think it must be on a flight path for London airports. About 3am in the morning we were woken up by a rowdy bunch of lads, we thought that this was campers but after asking in the morning we found that it was local drunken louts. We were also told that they were escorted off site which made us feel safer but in the next breath were told that it had happened every night for the past week although this was unusual for the area in general. Think that if we were in a caravan maybe we wouldn't feel the same but being in a tent I did feel rather insecure the following evening, this didn't spoil our trip and we would definitely stop here again being a good base for exploring the area.

July 2004 Like everyone else, I agree that this is a wonderful site. The staff were wonderful (didn't work out why they needed so many, but...) and we also got the cycle escort to our pitch.
The site was lovely and quiet, despite our group of 6 families. The facilities were spotless and the extra cost of the stay compared with some other sites was well worth it.
We will definitely be returning there.

June 2004 A lovely site. Only a 40 min drive from home in C London, you would not believe you are only a mile away from Hertford Town Centre. Great facilities, endless hot water, lovely staff (we too were escorted to our pitch by a 'behatted' gentleman on a bicycle who took time out each day to pop by and say hello!) There were a large group of young people in the rally field, poss D of E who were quite rowdy, but once we were back to our tent, on the opposite side of the site we couldnt hear a thing. A great atmosphere to the site. Would return and recommend!

September 2003 I am used to very out of the way sites and was a bit apprehensive about staying in a site so close to a large town but nothing could have prepared me for the total country feel this site offers.
To pitch was £8 per night (cheaper if a member of C&CC)I was escorted to the "tent field" by a uniformed warden on his bike. This is a great way to get used to observing the speed limit. He told me that as it was near the end of the season, he thought it might be quite quiet and that I could pitch where I liked. Once we got to it I was overjoyed to find that I was the only one there. The tent field is encircled by hedging giving great shelter and privacy from the rest of the site and the showers are less than 50 metres away (included in the pitch price)
I spent four days there and would highly recommend the site for facilities and setting
