Just returned from an 11 night stay and we have nothing but praise for this camp. After a 9 hour journey(due to car breaking down) which should of only taken 3 hours, we were greeted with a warm welcome in the reception then sent through security barrier to be met by a lovely warden. We wanted 2 pitches together as we had gone with friends, close to the toilets as a member of the party is disabled. The warden informed us that they didn`t have 2 pitches together that we could put awnings on, but we could go on 2 temporary pitches until the next then we could have the pitches that we required. The warden was very helpful even came back to us to see if everything was ok. We moved the next day on to fully service pitches which where great, our windbreaker was broke so the warden lent us one of hers which I thought was lovely of her.
We had rain twice during our stay, once at night and 1 full day of rain. The drainage was brilliant, you had to walk across the grass to get to the toilet block(if you wanted you could walk on the road but it`s a little longer) There was no sodden grass at all. This is the best camp we have been on for drainage.
The toilet blocks 1 &2 are fine plenty toilets and sinks nad 3 privacy cubicles but only 3 showers. There is also an area where you can dry your hair with 2 plug sockets. There is also a baby bath and changing mat. Toilet block 3 on the tent field is lovely and modern with more showers and you can control the temperature where the others are set. I hope the other blocks are modernised the same. All the pitches are metered for electric we have never used these before. The pitch we went on already had £1. 40 on so we didn`t need to rush to the reception to get some during our stay we spent £12. 00 including what was already on, but I didn`t have my hot water turned on.
The shop was well stocked although a few things where a little pricey, a loaf of warburtons was £1. 50 and 2 litres of milk £1. 69. There was some thing that where reasonable. You can also get fresh pie`s and hot drinks. Staff in here where very friendly. There is a cafe on site didn`t use it but prices where o. K. The chippy is good lovely chips and fish and open from 5. 30-11pm. The club is of good size and a sun trap outdoor seating area looking at views of the hills and also people coming and going. There is a small arcade which is in the same building as the baths I found it a little stuffy in here.
There is a great park for the kids with a brilliant slide, there are also football posts. At the back of the arcade there are basketball courts and a ramp for scooters, skateboards, e. T. C.
The dog walk leads up to the top of the cliff where there are 2 benches for you to sit and admire the stunning views. If you feel fit take a walk down the hill, (it is steep to get back up)when you get to the bottom walk to the left towards Scarborough (I preferred to do this in the evening about 7. 30pm)You will come to a place where there are rocks in the sea, here you can see seals (don`t forget your binoculars).
The site is about 5 minutes from Filey, 40 minutes from Whitby, 20 minutes from Bridlington all these place are worth a visit. There is also a place called Thornton-le-Clay, this is a lovely little village with lovely tea shops and an ice cream parlour so glad the lady in reception recommended us to go here.
We are so glad that we chose to stay at this camp for our 1st visit to this lovely part of the country and we will definitely be returning soon.

Good site as always, all staff very friendly and helpful
Nice clean upgraded shower and toilet blocks, though the lighting needs to be improved - was a little dark when shaving !
Good location to visit the surrounding areas such as coastal towns and north yorkshire moors
The shop has all the basic needs although my tight husband thinks it a little pricey ! what do men know?!
Sometimes the noise from the pub/social area a little loud, but this I felt was partly due to the wind direction.
Will recommend and return

We have recently returned from a short holiday at this site and was very pleased with it (we have been before and were so pleased with it, we had no qualms about returning).
Went through the formalities and we were shown to a pitch with electric as had been booked, I found the staff were polite, pleasant and efficient. I note from other reports that the electric cost £5 but I found that you can buy in £1 denominations.
The facilities generally were kept clean and tidy.
The play park for the kids is very well equipped and our two were never away from it.
The toilet block that we used has been recently refurbished (since last year) and the showers in this block had variable temperature control which worked well. My wife also reported the same for the ladies. We both commented that the temperature of the of the hot water at the sinks was very hot, meaning that you had to use the non-removable plugs and pour in some cold water as well to make the temperature satisfactory. We also noted that the block was fairly dark inside during the day but they had left the lights on, on our last day, which greatly improved the situation. My wife also noted the presence of a male cleaner on some of the visits, which she found a surprise and she thought that this should have had a warning sign.
We used the shop which was well stocked with most things you would need but is not cheap, but not extortionate, given the convenience.
We did not use the site bar so I cannot comment on this or the entertainment provided.
We did not use the swimming pool or squash courts but we all enjoyed the ten pin bowling and kept the kids amused during a rain shower.
The site also has the 'Scarborough Fair' Vintage Fairground Museum but this is only open Wed-Sun so we did not have time to visit it.
Although the camping field was not too busy, we have never noticed any undue noise from other campers on our visits.
This site is not far from Scarborough and Filey which have many attractions for holidaymakers.
We used the pub near the entrance to the site last year, I think it is called the Plough, which has indoor and outdoor kids play areas but we found the service was very poor and the cleanliness had a lot to be desired.
I would definitely use this site again!

We Visited this site with two young children (2 years and 7 months). We chose this site for its facilities, primarily the pool, and its location. It is a well kept site, with good facilities, and generally happy and helpful staff. The area we were on was quiet which suited us with two small kids, and was very safe, so our little one could play without us worrying about cars etc. The playground was excellent, and our little boy loved it. The toilets/showers were fairly clean, but as the lights only came on at 8pm, they were a little dark early evening when getting the kids showered and ready.
It is a perfect location for Filey & Scarborough, and a lovely area.
However. Having said we chose the site for its facilities, we were very disappointed and quite frustrated to be turned away from the pool 4 times, before we eventually got in on our fifth try. We were told the pool was undergoing 'maintenance'. We felt it was bad planning to arrange maintenance for the height of the peak season. If it was being fixed for a fault, that's fair enough but the pool seemed to be able to open for its 'splash session' (from which we were turned away as the pool was full to capacity) and then shut again immediately afterwards. Having been turned away twice, we were given a free pass to enter, but this wasn't much use when each time we returned the pool was shut again. We were also quite surprised to find that the pool was an additional cost. Sites we have visited before with 5 stars, have always had a pool which was free to residents.
All in all. We had a good holiday, and would recommend the site for its facilities, but would 'warn' others about a few things to bear in mind on their stay.

Booked a week's camping here - group of two parents and two teens. We don't drive, so everything we needed was either on our backs or pulled on a small trolley. The site is well laid out, but is a bit of a confusing maze and is hilly, which only became an issue on our last night, when it rained heavily and turned our pitch into a river.
Arrived around midday Saturday and found the site busy and the staff curt, but still reasonably friendly. Quite a walk from reception to our pitch. An initial misunderstanding regarding whether or not we'd reserved a powered pitch was cleared up after a bit of a delay. The Paddock where we were placed was very full and slightly disorganised, with non-electric campers taking up metered pitches. Pitches are crammed surprisingly close together - we were so close to our neighbours that our tents were inches apart on one side, and risking getting parked on by a car on the other side.
Site staff are friendly, helpful and courteous, even the poor man in the site shop who had to endure a few days of my asking for cashback at 8 in the morning, as the site has no cashpoint.
The on-site cafe is slightly overpriced, but the food is good, hearty and filling. The Fish & Chip shop cooks your food to order, so it takes a little longer than usual, but the standard is good and the portions are very good for the price. The site shop isn't particularly well stocked, but there's a good range of products for statics, tourers, tents, kids and adults, as well as the usual range of groceries. A short walk from the site is a Shell garage that is also well stocked with groceries and includes a Costa Express machine, which will satisfy most big city coffee addicts!
There is an impressively large, centrally located playground which our youngest daughter was loath to leave, even in the rain.
The toilet blocks were always clean and brightly lit and the showers are free and thermostatically controlled, which is a rare blessing indeed! The Potwash rooms and Launderette are similarly well maintained and well lit. A standout feature for me were the very comfy leather sofas in the laundrette, which gave a very welcome respite from sitting on the ground!
The site is somewhat isolated, despite being directly next to two other sites, including the 'Blue Dolphin' Haven site, but there are a number of bus routes which run right by the entrance to the site, so as a family relying on public transport, we found it relatively easy to get around. For walkers, the site lies directly on the Cleveland Way, which runs for 160 miles from Filey 3 miles away, through Cayton Bay (The nearest beach) 2 miles away, on to Scarborough (5 miles) and up away through the moors and on to Whitby and beyond.
The site Bar can get crowded, but offers fun, nightly kids entertainment and is reasonably priced - a pint of bitter and a non-alcoholic lager set me back less than £5, which, coming from a big city, is decent enough.
While we didn't partake of the swimming pool, it is clearly visible from the amusement arcade and, while small, looked clean and well staffed. The arcade itself takes up two floors and includes a decent range of entertainments, from table football, arcade machines, those addictive 'shove 2p' machines, a bowling alley and an air hockey table, amongst others. The freezer for your ice blocks is located in the amusement arcade, which opens at 9am and closes at 10:30pm, which gives residents plenty of opportunity to swap their blocks around.
The local area is largely tourist focussed, mostly due to Scarborough being the oldest seaside resort in Britain. We could find plenty to do for ourselves and the kids. This is our fourth year returning to the area and we still haven't fitted everything in that we wanted to do! The Spa and Theaters in Scarborough have a solid itinerary right through the summer season and all of the beaches are well supported by shops and food vendors of all descriptions.
Due to the rainwater drainage issues and the surprising closeness of the pitches, I don't think we'll be returning to Flower Of May, but this is no real fault of the site owners or staff, who were nothing but lovely to us for the duration of our stay, even when we left a day early because of the rain.

We fancied a fully serviced pitch and a site with a pool and entertainment for a change this half term holiday, so we chose the flower of may. On arrival I went into reception where a not particularly friendly greeting awaited me. I bought £5 electric card ( so be aware you pay extra for that here) and was told to pull through the barrier and wait to be shown to a pitch. We were allocated a pitch at the end of a narrow line of pitches and I have to say its the closest I've ever pitched next to neighbouring caravans! No room to put chairs outside the awning if the weathers nice. The pitch is on hard standing but when it rained we found we had a lot of water in the awning so not drained well.
There was no map of the very large site so my son and I had to hunt for quite some time to locate the playground, which was very good.
There's a pool on site which is clean and we used it a lot as it rained a lot, but you do pay extra for that as well.
The evening entertainment was ok and good for our 6 year old son but we only went for one night.
We have a dog and there's a large field at the top of the cliff which they can run free on. There were lots of dog waste bins so the field was very clean, and its the only place where kids can kick a ball.
I went for a shower one morning at 9am which is peak time for showering on campsites and was quite surprised to find a young man in the ladies cleaning, there was no sign up warning me of this and it seemed ridiculous to be cleaning at that time of day. The shower was unpleasant due to the man being in there and the temperature of the shower. There was a sign saying it was set at 43 degrees and it couldn't be changed, it was too hot for me and I wouldn't shower my son in there. They are fixed head showers and are push button use. Just a note in the ladies toilet cubicles I couldn't see any sanitary bins anywhere! Even though there were signs saying to use them!
On leaving I handed my barrier pass in at reception and yet again was greeted with a frosty reception where she just handed my £10 back, not a word of 'hope you had a good time' and 'hope to see you again'! Which they won't.
The positives of the site are the location which is excellent for filey and Scarborough and the shop which is well stocked and has a lovely lady behind the till.
If you don't mind being close to your neighbours, men in the ladies shower, frosty staff and rules for everything then this is the site for you.

Flowers of May is a site with some very good features, but is spoiled slightly by the attitude of the people who run the site.
The touring pitch that we were ordered to use was very small. I was told to place the caravan in a certain direction and as far back as possible. In fact they were only satisfied when I the rear of the caravan was in the bushes! I received severe cuts from the bushes as I tried lowering the van legs and putting the awning up, so not a good start.
The wifi was useless despite paying for it, and electricity is extra, paid by meter and very expensive so add £20 on to the cost of a weeks holiday there!
Everything was regimented right down to being ordered to stop in the middle of a game of bowling so they could close the games room at 10. 30pm by a grumpy old welshman.
We also had to park our second car outside and away from the caravan, promptly despite the site being quite empty at an extra cost of £3 per night. Money money money!
Although nice and clean, the showers were either too hot or too cold despite mentioning it at least 3 times.
On the positive side the region is beautiful, and the site is very well run. So if it were not for the above points I would have been very happy.
I can can cope with poor wifi, paying for electric, and having to park the second car outside of the area, but warm constant showers, and most of all a friendly smile and bit of give and take from the people running the site and games areas is a must! This is a holiday not a concentration camp!
A part of me thinks that this site wishes to please the resident static owners only and that tourers are a bit of an inconvenience.
If the above points were attended to then 10 out of 10 would be good.

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Flower Of May we have had a great break and would recommend this site, we will be booking for a break again next year. After checking in and pay £10 for a barrier card which is refundable when you leave and hand the card back in, £5 for a electric card as the site has a electric meter's at the pitches plus full service at no extra cost. We were asked to go through the barrier and wait at the other side, where we were meet by a warden who took us to our pitch, she showed us where the bins were, showers, park for the kids and where to go for dog walk. The grounds were tidy, showers clean hot and powerful not a dribble to be seen, word if warning if you leave your shoes on the floor they will get wet. We had to pay to use the pool, no real entertainment in the club even though it Was the school holidays. On site there is a shop which is well stocked, cafe, fish and chip shop, pool, amusements and site bar. Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are very close by, there is a bus service at the entrance of the site. There is also a pub call the plough by the road side which serves great food.

Just back from a 2 night stay here. I don't normally stay on large sites, but chose this as I was camping with my brother and his kids, who I knew would enjoy the facilities.
It was very busy, and as I was unable to pre book a pitch we ended up in the paddock, the down side to which is that the tents were very tightly spaced together, leaving little space to set up our table & chairs outside. It also meant that the noise levels from neighbouring tents was quite high. We were quite a distance from the toilets, which also resulted in a few urgent dashes with the kids!
Things got a bit rowdy in the paddock at pub closing time, which I hadn't expected from a family orientated site. I think I must be getting old as I found drunken adults running around the tents screaming and singing quite annoying - luckily the kids managed to sleep through it.
Despite this, the site itself was lovely, the grounds and facilities were well maintained and despite being so busy we never had to queue for toilets or showers.
The shop was well stocked and had fresh produce in. We never made it to the bar/club as we were out till late each day, but the boys enjoyed the swimming pool and play area.

We have recently come back from a 6 night stay at this site and had a lovely time. We had a great pitch which was fully serviced.
The toilets and showers were very clean.
We didn't use the pool but it looked really nice but we did use the squash courts.
The site is in a really good position two minutes walk to the sea with lovely coastal walks on the cliff tops.
We will be visiting this site again and would recommend it.
