Just got back from flower of may for the first time stopping there and we have had a lovely weekend. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Shown to our pitch by a lovely lady warden, we asked for one near the park and it was an excellent pitch, with plenty of room and near to toilet block.
The pitch had its own water supply and drainage at no extra cost!
The park is excellent for all ages of kids, the pub was excellent with great entertainment for the kids, The arcade was great too with pool tables upstairs and ten pin bowling.
The swimming pool was great for the kids and wasn't expensive.
Overall this site is a great site and is near to Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. We loved it so much we've left the caravan there till next weekend, so we can go back.

We have just returned from a couple of nights at the Flower of May, and even though the weather was a bit inconsistent (well it was Easter weekend in the UK, it was bound to rain!) we had an excellent time.
The staff on site are all friendly and welcoming, we were shown almost immediately to the pitches. However, we feel there could have been a few more wardens that patrolled the site at night, especially the tent area, due to a few problems with noisy neighbours early hours of the morning.
The toilet block was nearby the pitches, only a minutes walk away. There was enough toilets/showers so you were never queueing. The gents were always clean, however the ladies floor was always very wet, and muddy (probably with the weather been wet) This could have been kept on top of, especially with kids going in and out to avoid any accidents
The playground was clean and tidy especially as no dogs were allowed on that area, and no bikes or scooters were allowed either which helped.
The clubhouse was a great opportunity to get warm and to enjoy some entertainment on an evening, with a kiddies disco, games, and even a magician one night. There was always something to keep the kids entertained. The bar prices were reasonable and well stocked.
We booked a pitch with electric and bought a £5 meter card, whilst there for 3 days we ran a coolbox, hair dryer, a tv/dvd for a 3 year old and when we left it had only gone down to £4.30, so a bit of advice, only buy a £1 meter card and see how it goes, you can always get another. The good thing I guess if you are turning up, check the meter first because there maybe some money left on the meter!
The shop on site was well stocked and you could even order fresh bread and croissants and go collect them at a pre-arranged time.
The swimming pool was a good size, busy at the peak times, but we went at tea time and there was only a handful of people there so this was an ideal time.
Amusements and pool room popular to keep the kids entertained.
Even though you could get everything on site, if you take a short walk there is a garage/supermarket and also a family pub. There is a bus stop at the end of the drive to the campsite.
The golf course is next to the tent pitches, priced reasonably, however we didn't have chance to use it. We would have to look at hiring clubs anyway due to lack of space in the car!
Overall, an excellent site and would recommend to any family who wants a good value for money holiday

Just returned from a four night stay, our fourth visit to Flower of May, father in law joined us for his second visit with camper van.
Site still has same high standard of cleanliness and good sized pitches. This was our 5th caravan outing this year and is the one we always look forward to. We love Scarborough and surrounding areas, this year we had the added bonus of glorious sunshine except for one day of rain.
On site chip shop still very good although was slightly disappointed that they had run out of kebab meat(a regular favourite of ours)and wouldn't be re stocking until the day we left. Still you can't have everything.
Club entertainment is exactly the same crowd for the fourth year which although the kids like it, it is starting to become a bit tedious and repetitive. Dave Marshall popular as he is needs to re vamp his act as it's same party dances and very similar jokes since we first started going.
This is all ok if your'e a newcomer you won't have seen it umpteen times before so may be entertaining.
As much as we love this site and we do love visiting Scarborough every year we will probably give flower of may a miss next year and try else where around Scarborough just for a bit of fresh evening entertainment which is a big shame because this is the only thing that we feel needs changing and will prevent us from returning for next year at least.
Flower of May is a lovely site but please lets have a re~vamp of kids entertainment for 2012-13

We stayed 4 nights, Sunday to Thursday. We were shown to our pitch by a really friendly and helpful lady.
The whole stay was fantastic. The facilities are spotless, staff are lovely and there is so much for the kids to do.
Some people have said that the pitches are small. We didn't find them any smaller than elsewhere. We had electric hook up and each pitch has it's own water supply.
I really liked the electricity charge, you buy it on card and then top up when it runs out. We only used 4 pounds during our stay. Check your meter before you buy though as there is usually credit left on there. Fish and chips on site were lovely.
My only slight criticism would be that they clean the shower blocks just when most people want a shower, they are very clean though.
The site isn't chavvy at all and was very safe for the kids. It was august but still felt quiet. The price per night is also great.
Very close to both filey and scarborough. We loved it here and would certainly return soon.

Spent 5 nights at Flower of May over the August Bank Holiday and we have mixed feelings about the place.
The many good points are:Very friendly and helpful staff in the shop, clubhouse, cafe and arcade / swimming baths, fantastic huge playground and ball area, clean and plentiful shower / toilet facilities, an easily reachable dog walking area with fantastic views of the coast, brilliant night time entertainment by Dave Marshall and finally the other campers were genuinely nice people.
The bad points for me were the pitches themselves, we were put in a corner and as more tents arrived and pitched (under instruction from wardens) in front of us we were unable to add our canopy and our car was blocked in.
We felt squashed and surrounded on all sides and it spoilt what should have been a fab experience.
I know the kids would love to return as they had the best time but we wouldn't return.
The price was an average of £16 per night but the swimming pool is extra.

Please be carefull before booking to stay on this site. If you want peace and quite this is not the site for you. I went here last week with my one year old child, I ve been camping since I was 5 years old I m 42 now. I ve never been on a most un friendly site. The staff was very un helpful and rude.
When booking I told the staff I was bringing a one year old, on a arrival I was taken to a site to put our tent up, we were watched by the warden while putting up our tent, made us feel real un comfortable. Then other people started turning up with tents. The warden put the tents so close to our tent our guy ropes was under the nexts doors tents. A fire risk. Next min there started with the music drinking we might as well been in the same tent, so my husband went into the office to complain. He was told well it is a family site, we knew that but the music was bang bang bang, So I decided to complain I was refused my money back told same thing its a family site. The Lady in reception said go back to your tent and we will move you. Four nights we were there we were never moved. No sorry nothing. I would never go back to this very strictly this and strictly that site. We complained twice nothing was done.

We stayed at FoM over the June 1/2 term holidays in our motorhome for 4 nights and my inlaws stayed for 7 as they took our daughter up with them earlier than we could make it.
The site was full to capacity I would say and it holds a lot of units. We had a nice hardstanding pitch and was easily accessible to 2 toilet blocks. The toilet blocks were cleaned daily at least once and were nice.
We found the place easily and there is a petrol station and pub at the end of the drive. We used the pub for a meal on the first night which was nice and not very expensive.
We checked in no problems and were given a card for barrier access, I think it was £10 deposit for the card. The warden showed us to our pitch which they had allocated to us.
The electricity on this site is done by a meter, you can buy cards in £1, £5 or £10. I bought a £5 card as I had no idea how much electricity we would use. When we got setup on the pitch I put in the card and then I saw that our meter already had £3 remaining so was now upto £8.
We did not use the £5 I put in so the pitch had quite an excess of electricity when we left. My tip would be to buy a £1 card first and see if you drop lucky with spare credit on the meter.
I bought a gas bottle on site which was standard Calor prices. Pay the reception staff who give you a receipt to show the warden who will take you to the gas locker.
The site was quite noisy with lots of noise after our child had gone to bed, it is a family site though and kids stay up later on holiday generally. It isn't really our sort of site as we don't usually use sites with clubhouses etc but this wasn't our choice.
We did use the pool on the last day, we had an extra day due to school training and the site had completely emptied out so we had the place to ourselves. The pool was nice and pretty cheap, my wife was surprised though that we had to pay extra for the pool as it isn't the cheapest site around and then the electric extra.
Location-wise, you need a vehicle to access Scarborough as you are well out of town. We used the inlaws car so not to move the MH.
If you are into large commercial sites and have a car/caravan or car/tent setup you will probably like this site.
If you are motorhomers or not into commercial sites I would suggest going somewhere else. It isn't a place we would pick for us and the MH due to it not being close enough to a town or other things to do.

Loved our first camping trip, we chose the flower of may after driving by from visiting my brother who lives in scarborough, booked for the sat and sun night 7 of us, 2 adults 5 kids ranging from 6-14, as soon as we arrived we were shown were to go, was fairly busy but had 2 choices of areas were we could camp, we chose at the back were the trees were, was nice over there but blocked a lot of the sun out by the early evening. Neighbouring campers were really friendly always said hello.
We loved the site so much that when we left we booked to go back for 4 nights at the next bank holiday in may with electric hook up this time! Big family so feel the need for electric.
Staff really friendly, entertainment was good for the young ones not for teenagers but they were happy with the pool tables and swimming which kept them occupied too.
Shops and cafe were very nice too, especially the breakfasts, really really nice, staff really nice in there too.
Toilets and showers seemed a fair trek from were we was but didn't complain as the weather was fabulous, really clean showers and toilets and smelt fresh every time, also liked the pot washing room.
The Park was great for the kids, they were never off there, even the older ones seem to like it.

Great site, we've been here a few times and never been disappointed. The playground is super for kids up to teenagers and there's a skatepark/bmx park at the top of the site. There's an arcade, clubhouse, fish shop, well stocked shop and clubhouse entertainment all of which is good. Adult bar upstairs for grown ups.
The pitches are in a tent/car arrangement (not perfectly level with a slight slope downhill)- there was a few of us and with it being the end of the season we were the only ones in the tent field so had loads of space. The tent field was a real sun trap. We have been before in high season and space was a little tight. Big tents could have problems pitching but you are made aware of this when you book - they ask for your tent size so have it to hand. We have a Montana 6 and it was very close to the boundary. Some pitches have electric hook-up but we stayed non-electric. The pitches are grass and pegging out is ok with normal pegs - didn't break or bend any on hidden rock strata!
Toilets - constantly clean and when being cleaned, the others are open.
Showers (free) - again constantly clean with warm water (fixed temperature)
Pot wash - constantly clean and indoors.
There is a pub and petrol station within walking distance of the site. Scarborough is a short car or bus ride away. All in all a great site.

Just returned from our 3rd visit in 3 years and would like to say that this site keeps getting better every year. We love this site so much that we even took along family who stayed in the tent field.
The play park has been improved and is a great place to let your kids go to without too much worrying. It's well equipped and as safe as any play area we've seen
Evening family entertainment remains the same crowd but again nothing to complain about. Dave Marshall is a great entertainer for the kids with the odd comment thrown in for the adults which goes well over the kids heads.
The touring wardens are great friendly and helpful and easy to find if needed but not intrusive. The pitches are kept well and are a good size. Electricity is metered but we had 5 days and only cost us a fiver.
The on site chip shop is great and has a good selection and unlike some sites stays open til 11.15 pm. A must try is doner kebab with lemon juice, the staff will look at you like youre mad but its nice especially after the pub.
All in all another great holiday here will be returning next year and can't wait.
