Stayed at Haddon Grove over the vey wet and windy June weekend.
As others have said, lovely site, rural location with very basic but clean facilities.
Cheap to stay there too which is fab.
We were 5 families camping so quite a crowd of us, we pitched on the main field in the lee of some trees which gave us a fair bit of shelter.
Quite a trek to the loo so don't leave it until the last minute!
Lovely walking area. We went into the Dale and walked to Moynash, another family joined us for that so we were 12 adults and 15 kids! Great pub in Moynash where we enjoyed a few drinks and the kids amused themselves in the playground.
In terms of camping; it was very wet and very muddy. The site did seem to drain quite quickly despite the torrential rain.
Would certainly recommend and visit again. It's basic, good honest camping.

Stayed for 2 nights in the family field with 2 year old and a 6 month old, for 10 pounds a night. We were about as far away from the toilets as it was possible to get - I timed the walk at 4. 5 minutes (one way), so take a bucket.
When I paid for the site, the owner said that we could have a look round and if we didn't want to stay he'd give us a refund. We camped at the bottom of the field (so that we were down-wind of everyone if our infant cried in the night!). We were next to a fence with a steep drop-off on the other side - something to be aware of if your toddler is more adventurous than ours!
Most pitches are slightly sloping, but not excessively. The nearest tent to ours was probably 30m away (weekend, not a bank holiday or school holiday).
The campsite is high up, so you should knock a couple of degrees off the forecast temperatures for Bakewell. Views are good, and there is a pleasant walk down to the Lathkill Dale. There is a pleasant short walk down to Lathkill Dale and up to the waterfall, though with some steep drop-offs. Our 2 year old managed the way down with plenty of hand-holding.
Didn't use the showers, but plenty of hot water in the loos, you just need to wait for it to come through.
I have rated the site as 8* - I've knocked off 2 for no proximity to a pub, and 1 for the distance to facilities, and added 1 for the low price.

Stayed two nights, 3rd and 4th September 2011. The site was recommended by my daughter and her boyfriend who have been several times - this was our first and we'll definitely be back!
The site is large with separate fields for families, groups, caravans etc. We stayed in the family field which had stunning views over Lathkill Dale. Our little (19 month) Border Terrier loved being walked in the woods and there & back down to the toilet/shower area!
The toilet/shower block is a bit of trek and very basic but there is always loo paper and hot water! For people with young families or with someone in need of some support, there is a separate 'family room' with shower, sink and loo and plenty large enough for 2 adults and 2 children. There is also a separate pot washing area, similarly basic but again always hot water!
Although this site loses a couple of points for the facilities due to the distance from the fields and being as basic as they are - at £4. 00 ppn (adults and 13 or over's) this along with beautiful location and friendly owner more than compensate! A couple with a tent pay just 10 pound per night, absolute bargain!

Stayed 2 nights, 2 adults and 2 children cost us £10 a night! Rural site, no on-site shop so make sure you take all the basics.
Site owner is very friendly and he ended up lending us his own cleaning equipment as we forgot ours!
We pitched in the family field under the trees, was sheltered and flat although some of the tent pegs got bent as the ground can be a little stony in places.
Literally 2min walk to the top of lathkill dale, then a very steep walk/climb downwards, the river was all dried up due to the hot weather.
Spectacular views will definitely visit again.

We (2 adults and 2 Children under 4) stayed at this site for 2 nights at the very end of July, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It cost us £20 - Bargain.
We stayed in the family field, which unfortunately is at the very top of the site and furthest away from the toilets. Not good when you have a three year old who's only just toilet trained. However, the toilets were clean, and the showers were hot (and free to use).
There was also a family shower room, which we can not comment on as we did not use it. In the mens side there were 3 toilets, 2 showers and 2 sinks. Not enough for the number of people camping. Urinals would have helped. In the ladies there were 5 toilets, 2 showers and 3 sinks with hair drying points.
There are 3 main fields, plus an area which had several static caravans.
We pitched up our tent on the flattest part of the field, which was nearest the wooded play area, between the group and family field. The ground was quite stony, and we had to employ the use of heavy duty pegs.
Our little boy loved the wooded area. He'd go bug hunting with the other kids. Find sticks and play 'Harry Potter' and would swing for hours on the rope swings. OK, he came out with a few scrapes and scratches, but that's what being a kid should be about. Not playing indoors, wrapped in cotton wool, playing on xbox.
All in all it was a very relaxed weekend, and we would not hesitate to go back.

This was a overnight trip for two adults and two children (10, 11). Haddon Grove was chosen as a rural campsite that was located in the Peak District. We wanted a simple, cheap site and the reviews that we read about Haddon Grove were a true reflection. For the 2 adults, 2 children plus a dog and 1 car we paid £14. We pitched up in the Groups field as we found this to be the flattest to pitch the tent up. There were many of water pipes situated around the edges of the field so no waiting to fill up.
Around midday one by one single tents with youths doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes began sprouting up and we thought Oh No! the teachers went round at half ten advising time to get their heads down and before eleven they were all fast on so no problem for us and I enjoyed listening to them discuss how knackered they all were.
The site surely met our needs. The toilet facilities are not up to scratch, could do with a little more updating up in the future and need cleaning more often with all the numbers trying to use them, however I always found more than enough toilet paper there.
It is a beautiful area, great walking surroundings and they do a mean Ice cream in the nearby Monayash green.
All in all excellent 1st camping site and although we would try other sites we would always consider Haddon Grove for a return visit.

Stayed for 2 nights, in the main field - met by the friendly owner who allows you to pitch almost anywhere. All the electric hookups were taken, I think by long-term / seasonal pitches. Fresh water and chemical disposal. Toilets/showers seemed good condition. Site was only half full. No shop, closest seems to be Bakewell 10 mins drive. Some noise from larger groups but they tend to be in separate field. Would return, but not at a bank holiday. Good walk straight off the site down to Lathkill Dale.

The owner I spoke to was helpful and friendly and told me that I did not need to book and could turn up at any time and leave at anytime of the day. This site was already a winner.
When we arrived given that there had been heavy rain the site was well drained. It can get windy on the site but that is because it is quite high up so it is to be expected.
There are several fields to choose from we picked the family field at the end as it was the quietest however it is further away from the toilets and showers.
We managed to get a great pitch and it was well sheltered. The toilets and showers are basic but do the job. There is a socket in the ladies for hairdryers etc and there is a further socket in the washing up area.
The owner will freeze your ice packs and will also charge mobile phones. Overall I would give this site 10/10 great location also for Lathkill Dale.

Great site, we arrived on bank holiday Sunday afternoon were told to find a pitch and we paid £10 for 1 tent, 2 adults and 2 dogs. The site is fairly roomy with a few different fields. There is a designated family field and the site is surrounded by dry stone walls and fields of sheep. The owner was really friendly and laid back, he said if we changed our mind after seeing the site and paying, then just go back to the reception and we could have a refund. Not that we wanted to as we had a great time. Really friendly atmosphere on site, no shops or pubs near the site though so make sure you have your own supplies. Didn't need to use the facilities so can't comment on these. Quiet site away from the main road, just a bit of noise from the sheep early on the Monday morning. There is a lovely walk down the valley and along the river to Lathkill Dale, we walked on to Bakewell for a pub lunch, great site would highly recommend!

This was a weekend trip for two Dads and three boys (13,11,8) and a girl (8). Haddon Grove was chosen as a simple site that was located between the two families. I'm from North Yorkshire and by brother-in-law is based in Northamptonshire. We arrived on the Friday evening for two nights.
We wanted a simple, cheap site and the reviews that we read about Haddon Grove were a true reflection. For the 2 adults, 4 children and 1 car we paid £14. A second car we had wasn't charged for. We pitched up in the centre of the main field close to a large tree where some stone 'benches' afforded us a raised cooking and eating area.
An empty field suddenly filled with several dozen tents with youths doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes. I'm very supportive of this so that was no problem for me and I enjoyed talking to them about their volunteering and planning but others who want more space will find it difficult.
The site is cheap and popular and met our needs but I'd hesitate to take my wife there. The toilet facilities are not up to the numbers, could do with updating in the future and need cleaning more often with all the numbers trying to use them.
A skip provided for rubbish was overflowing and had it been more windy there would have been a real mess. It is a beautiful area, great walking country, a visit to Bakewell or Matlock Bath will not disappoint but when we return as full families, we agreed that we would choose somewhere else. It's cheap and cheerful but, like your grocery shopping, price should not be your only consideration.
