We have been coming to the Haddon Grove campsite for many, many years. Yes, it's basic, yes the showers could be better, but the farm overlooking Lathkildale and the walks all around the area are worth returning again and again. The owner is wonderfully relaxed, the walk down to the dale, along to Monyash and back via Calesdale is the BEST in the world in my opinion!
Places we visit every time include Bakewell, Magpie Mine, Haddon Hall, Castleton and usually at least ONE of the Blue John mines.

We visited this site over the August Bank Holiday. It is a basic site with no marked pitches. The site details I noted say 60 pitches but I would estimate there would have been somewhere in the region of 150 units on this site over the weekend. I noted previous reviewers commented on how relaxed the owner was. He was so relaxed that he allowed people to pitch at 10:30 at night despite the no noise rule. We had to put up with the constant opening and shutting of car doors and flashing of torches for an hour and half whilst the late comers settled in.
The toilets were not the best kept I have ever been in and there was no entrance door to shut against the elements. The showers were free in the ladies but blokes paid a £1 for 10 mins or in 20p units. They were guaranteed hot water from an electric shower. The ladies showers suffered poor water pressure and overnight on Sunday into Monday they went off altogether. They had still not been sorted by Tuesday lunchtime when we left. There is also a sink for clothes washing in the ladies for those staying for longer periods. This was being used for washing up too. However, there were no polite notices indicating otherwise and I wouldn't have known if I hadn't asked. There was no soap in the dispenser, no paper towels or dryer. There was also a family room which consisted of a folding chair a rubber backed mat a toilet and shower tray with shower over (no shower curtain) the room must have been 12' x 8'. The shower was free.
Pot washing was in two sinks. Which were indoors. The heavy usage of the site meant that hot water ran out quickly and there was always a queue.
There is no formal children's playground. Tree swings are situated in different parts of the site. The owner's daughter is a keen horsewoman and several horses are kept at the farm. All the horses will allow you to stroke them. If your kids like the great outdoors and can make their own entertainment this is good spot for them.
The grass is not cut but this was an advantage considering the amount of rain which has fallen recently. It made for wet feet on the other hand and wellies or waterproof footwear is essential here.
Even though the site was full it was quiet by 11pm.
The site is situated in a lovely area with stunning views. The Heights of Abraham with the cable car ride are 12 miles away at Matlock. There are several Country Houses including Chatsworth. Bakewell is a busy tourist town with a variety of shops and a supermarket for provisions. Walking is the predominant pastime and this is prime walking country.
The pricing baffled me somewhat as I had two adults a child and car for £14 per night and my brother had two adults two children and a car for £12 per night. I am still trying to work it out!
All in all this is a two to four night stop over (as I cant go any longer without a decent shower) set in beautiful countryside and it is somewhere to return to if only to see more of the Peak District.

After reading other reviews I feel that I am probably too fussy but this site doesnt do it for me. We were in the top field so feel we had the best deal as the other fields were very overcrowded. The main field nearest to the toilet block was more a pop festival than a camping trip. I have never seen so many tents so close to each other. Yes it was August bank holiday but you don't expect the owners to just keep opening fields because people keep turning up. With 2 showers in the ladies and approx 6 toilets and similar in the gents the facilities were inadequate for the amount there. As others have stated, the toilet block is so far away from the top field that many go in the car. At least it is only a £10 a night for 2, but I am so glad to be home.

We aren't first timers to camping but it was our first time camping in Bakewell and what can I say I wasn't disappointed at all. The campsite was brilliant and such a great place for kids. They had the run of the farm and family area where we pitched up, was great. Our kids spent the 2 evenings we were at the site running around in the small section of woods with torches and other kids. We weren't concerned about them at all, they had such a great time. There is also a great little pub near by, although you have to drive there it is worth it. Good beer, Good food and a great play area for kids.
The facilities were absolutely great, a bit basic but hey that's camping. The owner was great, very friendly and had a no pressure style of running his site.
Bakewell itself is beautiful, plenty of shops and winding streets for couples and there's a river and play area for kids. Although if your going to venture out and about do your homework first as you have to drive some 10miles to do family activities.
All in all we had a fantastic time and we will definitely be going again next year.

We stayed at this site for 2 nights the first weekend in July.
The site is quite remote so definitely need a car but there are lovely places to visit in the area, bakewell, chatsworth house etc.
The site is lovely with good facilities, showers, toilets and pot wash area even a family shower room although this was quite busy and there was a queue 9 times out of 10. Site was very busy over this weekend but apart from the family shower room we never had to queue for toilet or shower. The facilities are quite a walk from the family field but this didn't bother us.
There are a few horses and ponies in the field near the facilities and they are all very friendly and the kids love them.
The local pub in Monyash serves excellent food and there is a fantastic kids playground, the best I've ever come across. There is a lovely farm shop in Over Haddon where we bought some great burgers and sausages for the BBQ, well worth a trip.

Visited mid-july, campsite 'exceptionally busy' according to owner- but the family field was very quiet- just tents around the edge- none in middle. Main field and D of E fields were very busy with loads of groups from D of E and scouts. But noise didn't affect us in family field.
We went with 4 tents- family get together- 3 children under 3. Had booked but owner was very laid back on the phone and when we arrived. Arrived mid morning fri and picked sheltered spot- plenty of room so could spread tents out well. Last tent of group not taken down till sunday evening as travelling home at night- this was no problem with the owner. Facilities were generally clean- especially considering number of people and very wet Sat night. Girls showers- free- but not particularly powerful- fine for quick wash. Were long way from family field but not a problem really. Washing up sinks had hot water- but by mid-morning had run out. Fine again at lunchtime.
The Bulls Head in Moneyash was very good- excellent playgroun, was very busy but had booked in advance. Food good and very friendly service. Child's portions were enormous! Cafe next door also good for filled rolls to take away and chocolate cake looked excellent. Bakewell so quick to get to. Really not a problem being 'in middle of nowhere' - in fact a great bonus!
Walks from campsite were lovely. Steep path into Lathkill Dale was mastered by our 3 year old and then continued for another couple of hours up dale and back along the top. Much gentler path down to lathkill dale about 300yds along the road.
We had a fantastic weekend and would definitely return to campsite. Excellent value for money- £80 for 8 adults, 3 kids and 4 cars, 2 nights- can't do much for that nowadays!

We have just bought our caravan and this was the first site we went to. As stated before in the middle of nowhere but this was great for us as we had dogs. Loads of places to walk them. Farmer very laid back didn't pay until we left! He said he'd come round for the money but never did! No set rules for arriving or leaving. The facilities were good but too far away to walk to in the night! Glad we weren't in a tent! No shops or pub within walking distance which we didn't mine bakewell was only 10 mins away. Overall a good basic site.

First time campers so didn't really know what to expect we spent 2 nights here, its a great site with plenty of room and only a 10 min drive into Bakewell.
The only bad points of the site is the toilet / shower block, the ladies showers were not much more than a dribble, although they were hot. There was no hand cleaner in the dispensers in either the mens or the ladies toilets and for the amount of people using the site they could have done with cleaning more often
Haddon grove is in a lovely location, safe for kids and very laid back and relaxing and at £4.00 pppn its excellent value for money.
On the whole we enjoyed our stay and will be returning in the future.

We enjoyed our stay here.
The field was boggy even during hot sun for the week
Site owner very relaxed, wouldn't take payment when I first went to see him, I paid just before we left
Very good value, we had 5 nights with electricity and awning for £57.50
There is a swing rope for children, and good countryside walks accessible without a car from the site (I took the kids on a lovely 5-mile trek).
Busy though, even during the off-peak weekend that we stayed.
Would highly recommend, but as previous reviews have said, you need a car because this place is fairly remote - in between buxton and bakewell as it is. Certainly no pubs nearby
Toilets clean and showers available at all times during our stay (though we showered twice by taking the kids to a swimming pool)

First time campers my family and I really enjoyed our stay no hassle just turned up paid at the house and off we went. No frills but was just how we liked it basic camping everyone there seemed to be enjoying themselves and were friendly. The owner never bothered anyone and the children had the run of the farm my grandaughter 5 spent hours just watching the horses and there babies. The showers and toilets were kept clean loads of hot water. The local pub served great food and had a brilliant playground. All in all a great time was had by all and we cant wait to go back.
