Stayed here for 4days and I must say what a great site, ok there is a main A road that you can hear and it is a tiered and sloping site, however this aside it really is a gem. We have 5 children none of which were bored and all want to return for longer next year, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The site and facilities were always clean and tidy, there's a shop that is very well stocked and a decent take away. We didn't really use the club and on the one night we did it was a fun friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be returning next year for our main holiday and I can't wait

Used this as a stop over from Northampton on the way to St. Austell, as others have said the pitching feels dangerous but in fact was quite easy, however we needed steady extensions/blocks as the terraced grass pitches are still not that level; and there's not much space for others to pass behind you. The site warden will help you pitch if you're nervous!
Camping cheques saved us a few quid a night, great views over the town, bus stop outside (£3 return for Lyme Regis, car parking costs £1. 70 so a bargain!).
10min walk to nice small town, 15min walk to very clean beach.
Would use again, especially like us out of season.

We booked here for our main holiday and was very pleased. If your looking for a full on holiday campsite experience then move on. This site was perfect for us in that it wasn't too busy, well situated for local attractions and pretty well run.
There is a clubhouse on site that provides some entertainment if you need it for the odd evening out and supplies some very expensive 'pub' meals (cost me £9. 50 for burger and chips which I don't mind paying if its great food but sadly it was not).
There is a shop on site open 8 - 8 with the basics and we found the site staff very helpful.
The pitches are level but as previously stated they are layered in to the hill and strangely the site want you to pitch nose inwards which we, and our neighbours, found irritating without any real reason for having to do so.
There are two shower blocks, but we only used the lower set and found them clean and well kept (as usual its the people that use them and make them look bad) There is also a play area for the children and a dog exercise area at the top of the site.
All in all we really liked this site and it only drops marks for 'nose in pitching' and the expensive meal and we would definitely return here given the opportunity.

This was are second visit to Newlands in as many months.
Last time we were pitched on an all weather 'Super Pitch'. This time, as we were with friends with a tent, we had the normal grass pitches.
The whole week before had been raining 'cats & dogs' and the grass was very wet - we began to see the problems that other reviewers have stated.
The pitches are flat but on a series of banks. When sited you are requested to pitch nose in first. This had 2 problems - firstly the back end scrapes the road when pitching. Secondly, as the grass was very wet - the jockey wheel 'dug in' rather than roll over the ground. This was even worse when leaving the site.
The site being full when we stayed the previous month, we couldn't understand why Newlands was 1/2 empty when surrounding sites were full. The possible answer is others knew of the problems with the wet grass.
The site still has lots of great benefits - great playground for kids of all ages, very close to Charmouth beach.
As we had youngsters we didn't use the club or experience the entertainment.
Another problem not suffered before - the showers only had hot water for about 30 seconds.
We had already booked for September but will wait to see if the weather is dry in the build up to our stay before we confirm.

Rang in the morning to request a hardstanding pitch for three nights, was informed by a very friendly receptionist that there was just one premium pitch available at a cost of £28 per night. Made the booking over the phone and paid by card. All done professionally and with good humour.
Arrived on the Friday to the wettest weekend in history (or so it seemed). The pitch was spacious and surrounded by hedges which gave the illusion of privacy which is all you can expect on a campsite. The grass fields are all terraced and there are ample hook up points.
My comment about the rain was slightly understated as there was a months worth of rain in 24 hours and even though the field was terraced it became very wet.
Some motorhomes found it difficult to get moving as wheels were just digging in to the soft mud, I mention this only to give praise to the staff who were on hand with 4x4's and mats to aid struggling vehicles and although we were not affected we watched as they very helpfully advised and helped other drivers.
We saw two toilet blocks and the ones down by the facilities were excellent and clean the ones further up the hill were slightly older but still clean and tidy. The shop stocked most of the basics and the club seemed well attended on the Saturday evening although we did not go in. The pools both looked clean and well maintained.
Despite the weather we had a pleasant stay and would return again

What a great site!
We telephoned late on a Friday afternoon for a pitch that evening. Middle of June - weather poor didn't think it would be too busy. Although the receptionist didn't mention it on the telephone the site was full and we got the last pitch. We had a 'Premium pitch' which is surrounded by a hedge with own water tap and EHU. These are pitches gravel - so if you are taking an awning - don't forget your 'rock pegs'.
Other pitches were grass.
Shower block, toilets etc were clean and presentable.
Great location, just off the by-pass. As other reviews have said, you can hear the road, but not to a level that would bother most people. The site is 2 minutes drive into the village of Charmouth and the fantastic Charmouth beach.
The shop is as good as any site, with all the basics covered.
Fish and chip shop on site was very good and prices were reasonable.
The outdoor pool looked good - but it was poor weather when we were there and so we tried the indoor pool. 12m x 6m pool. It was busy, but then there were only 10 people in it. (£2 charge per person /per swim although 10 swims could be bough for £10)
The children's playground is brilliant, with something for all ages.
We had a great 36 hours on site. Saturday we took our 2 year old to the beach, then a couple of hours at the playground and then swimming for an hour - as it was all local / on site we could get a lot in.
£28 a night seemed fair considering the facilities etc
Can't wait to get back.

First stayed at this site 7 years ago and had good memories. However, we have just returned from a weeks stay over the Whitsun period and are extremely disappointed with what we found.
Starting with pitching, as previously stated the warden puts you on your pitch in the exact position they want. Nothing wrong with that but it is nose-in at the top of a steep bank. When de-pitcing it was extremely difficult to push the van back against a slight slope. I am sure the health and safety would not be happy, one slip and the van could be over you.
Toilets and showers were never warm and on 4 nights out of 7 the water was cold also. The toilets in the club house smelt terribly of stale urine every night and the flush in the closet did not work. The indoor pool is nice but when spending £41/night you don't expect to have to pay a further £2 each to use the pool. The shower/toilet here were disgusting to the point the shower overflowed because of hair in the plug.
I found the staff to be very ignorant, you would stand waiting to be attended to whilst they finished chatting or doing mundane tasks. They treated the customers to a level of disdain that frankly was beyond the pale.
Considering we paid high season prices, (£41/night for standard grass pitch with electric), the entertainment was dreadful. 5 nights was the house DJ who thinks being a DJ is to put a CD on, then stand on stage like a bouncer at Mothercare. At no point did he try to connect to the audience. It showed with the bar being empty by 10 o'clock most evenings.
As you can guess we won't be returning. We did fill their questionnaire, maybe they'll read it and work on the points made.

Stayed here with our two children in our folding caravan. It was very wet and we were advised to pitch at the top of the field. The pitch was far from level. When we tried to put the awning up the wind took it and broke the attachment. However with a caravan shop 2 mins away this was quickly replaced.
The facilities were ok but nothing special. The shower cubicles a bit small and shoes got wet even though they were right at the edge of the cubicle.
We tried to wash up one day at around 12 to find there was no hot water.
Kids loved the play area. Bar area good.
The staff were friendly.
I know the weather was wet but our experience here was not one that we want to repeat. We stayed a further 5 days in another site whilst still wet and loved it but I don't think we would stay here again, although the area around is lovely.

This is a nice site, nice clean showers and toilets, lots of waste disposal points and elsan points so you never have to walk too far.
The pool is quite small but was great when we were there, as not many people were there, except for the day it rained, we had to wait to go swimming. They do have a outside pool but it was nowhere near warn enough for that to be open.
Kids entertainment and adult entertainment was ok. Great games room downstairs for the smaller children with a ball pool and obstacle course.
The meals you can get on site were really good, and a fair price as well. They could do with a slightly larger bar though. The on site shop has the bare essentials if you need any but there is a nisa just 5 mins up the road if you need more. The take away fish and chips were very nice I would recommend them when visiting.
Charmouth is 5mins away and a caravan camping stores 2 mins from the site. Lyme regis is 15 mins by bus but it cost 2 adults 2 children £10 return which we thought was a bit on the steep side (good old British public transport)
Only issue I had was, you have one of the site personnel help you put the van where he wants it, which is fine but the tow hitch and jockey wheel are a foot from a steep embankment, so when it comes to leave you have to run the risk of turning the van without it running away down the hill, would be far better to put the vans the other way.

Stayed here in a static although we usually camp, our son wanted to try a caravan.
Its a lovely site on the whole, its small compared to haven etc and quite quiet but its a very nice site.
The wardens keep the park clean by emptying bins etc quite regularly so that's nice.
Being campers I like to check out the camping facilities and I found the womens toilets and showers were freezing! There was a big radiator on the wall but it was off and it was cold in there. It seemed clean enough though and there were plenty of them.
My son loved the pool and spent 3 hours a day in it, it was very warm in there but if you wanted to watch you had to sit in the bar. The outdoor playground is big and my son loved it, lots of well kept climbing frames and slides etc.
The food in the bar was lovely, I want the chef to come and be my personal chef. I cant compliment him enough, first class!
There is a lot of noise from the A35 on the negative side, although that's not the parks fault. I think if we were camping it would have spoilt my holiday. Its a bit like being next to a motorway and its always busy, even at night.
All in all, would I go back. Yes, I think I would!
