We visited using camping cheques in December just before Christmas. We almost had the place to ourselves! They offer 4 people for the price of 2 and 7 nights for 6 cheques, this made the cost for our family of 4 with electric only £8.50 per night! This gives us the facilities of a pool etc for the price of a CS/CL.
On arrival staff were friendly and we felt at home almost immediately, we drove into the main touring field and since there were no direction marking turned left instead of taking the centre diagonal route (I recommend you look on Google earth before you go) this hill was so steep the we came to a stop and had to pitch there!
Being on a hill it was a trek to empty the toilet, but water was nearby. We don't use the site toilet facilities much but they were very clean.
Outdoor pool was closed but out of season the £1.50 indoor pool fee is waived. Nice pool and spa, but the small changing rooms are not very private and FREEZING cold, there is a wall mounted fan heater that we switched on and propped the door open to let some heat in from the pool.
Local shops are nice and we discovered 'Homity Pie' a recipe we have been making ever since (yum).
We pretty much used the site as a base, but bowling was good to have a go at and the pool was a great 'extra' we are going back in April 2008 for another week (or so) again with camping cheques.

Came here for whitsun week. First impressions of the site were good until we got to the tent field,no flat pitches. Decided to try the swimming pool, not the biggest pool in the world and I did not like the fact that you walked through the club to get to it. Changing rooms were too small and no privacy in them. Unfortuneatly rained hard all saturday night luckily tent was fine this meant spending the day going to the museums in Dorchester, good fun but not cheap. Tried the restuarant on site, food was very good but very pricey. Even my son was dissapointed with this site and when it began to pour with rain again on the sunday night he asked if we could go home, which we did even though we had booked for four nights. For £25 a night and having to pay to use a very small swimming pool I thought this was expensive and would not come here again .

We visited Newlands holiday park this year about 2 weeks after the heavy rains of this summer had finished. First impressions were very good we were checked in quickly and were on our pitch in under 15 minutes . We were asked at reception to not put our awning up for a couple of hours and when we got to our pitch we could see why. It was a mud bath where the previous ground sheet had been. The staff who unhitched us would not let us turn our van round or move the van off the peg so as to allow our door to open on to firmer ground, nor could they supply us with walking boards, all in all it took 5 days for the pitch to dry out and we were not even offered the money back for the loss of use of the awning. I know we have had a lot of rain but no effort was made to repair any of the damaged pitches in the 2 weeks we were there, not the best of starts. The rest of the site was very well kept the showers were hot and always clean and in 2 weeks we never had to wait to shower or wash up, The children's play ground was the best that I have seen in 30 years, none of this wrap the children up in cotton wool rubbish, proper thrill seeking swings, slides, and roundabouts. The outdoor pool was quite small and became very busy at times, there was also nowhere for children to play ball games apart from round the pitches, this was because the whole site was on a hillside ,even the terraces which the pitches were on were not level, the rear legs on my caravan were 6" down whilst my front right was fully extended with a 4" block of wood underneath . The Club house was great for children on their disco nights and my 3 boys age between 3 & 9 really enjoyed it, the bar prices were not that bad and although the camp shop was expensive I have to say I have seen worse . Best local beach West Bay (6 miles east) Nearest supermarkets Tesco 4 miles west at Axminster and Morrisons (6 miles east at Bridport) Top tip No 1 Lyme regis is a nightmare to park so use the park and ride or get there very early Top tip No 2 If you decide to go on a day trip to Waymouth use the old coast road It is far more beautiful and quicker Top tip N0 3 don't bother to take belly boards there is no surf Best local Pub for food "The George Inn" 3 miles east towards Bridport (home cooked but still a fair price).

I came when it's pouring down with rain, unfortunately I've booked a grass pitch with a hook up. Pitch was full of mud, though the warden provided me a ground sheet and helped me to move the camper in the pouring rain! But when I came home, my camper is covered in dry MUD! The indoor pool is an extra £1.50 per person, though it's a bit cold, the changing room doesn't have any privacy curtains or cubicles, could do with more showers as there's only 1. The restaurant service was spotless, extremely fast and friendly, but for an adult and 3 children with a 2 course comes over £40! Extremely expensive as well as the bar. The entertainment was excellent couldn't fault it. The grass area toilet at the top of the could be very dirty unlike the ones on the hard pitch area which is newly furbish. If I were to come again, I'll bring more money, and book a hard pitch!

Just come back from Newlands holiday park and have been thinking whether or not to leave a review as I wasn't really sure if it was going to be good or bad, so here goes. Arrived at the park to which we received a warm welcoming and our first impressions were better than we imagined by looking at the photos (as you do) We were escorted to our pitch, I thought that with the site being on a hill and the pitches on terraces that it would be good as you don't have others looking into van. although your view was better they had squeezed the vans close together. Must say this was the smallest pitch we have stayed on in the last 20 years. 5m x 5m that's to fit van car and awning not good! The area around the site is lovely lots of little towns/beaches not really for someone who likes the busy seaside resorts but was great for us. Also plenty of attractions to visit. Back to the site, the shower blocks were great very clean free water one of the best we've used. The shop on the site is well stocked but a little pricey but this is what you kinda expect. They have a chip shop but I would not recommend they were very expensive and also not to good. The club/bar was very clean and the staff were always friendly and helpful, drinks were average prices. The entertainment was very poor and some nights no entertainment, to say we were there in peak season you would think they could improve even if it was just a young girl keeping the children entertained for a couple of hours each night would be a start. We never used the indoor pool but looked nice, don't know the cost but think it was about £10 for a family of 4. The outdoor pool was good not to crowded. Good points: Shower block, staff friendly and helpful, bar ok, outdoor pool Bad points: Very small pitches, entertainment, Although we had a good holiday don't think I would go back due to the bad points

We spent 8 nights at Newlands. All in all a good place to stay. On arrival we where processed very quickly given a booklet with loads of information in, then told to wait in the car park to be directed to our pitch, Two wardens arrived quickly and escorted us directly to our pitch, helped to unhitch and put the Caravan in place, and gave us a some more info about the site. The Pitches where small and very close, the red field is where the caravans are, this is stepped but not level. You had to place the Jockey wheel on a slab that had the pitch number on and we could not use our Annex to the Awning due to the slope in front of the caravan. We where asked not to put up our awning for a few hrs and not put the ground sheet down for 24 Hrs due to the Mud pool that had formed from the week of rain prior to our arrival. We found this an inconvenience, as with a large family we need the use of the awning, The Caravan had to stay on the grass, with the car, whilst the mud was under the Awning, on the second day, staff came around and asked us to take up the ground sheet during the day so it would dry out, we returned to a pool of water in the middle of the awing after more rain. To stop the mud coming though the ground sheet I had to put a waterproof one down, the next day we had to take up all ground sheets, and empty the awning again. Lighting at night on the half furthest away from the toilet was none existent. There where plenty of water/rubbish points which seemed to always be 1/2 empty, staff always seemed to be buzzing around cleaning and cutting grass. Both the pools and spa where cold, we where told that they where 29 degrees. Outdoor pool was too busy, so we paid to use the indoor one. Prices in the Shop, Bar and the Takeaway where expensive, the staff where helpful. The food in the takeaway was cooked fresh, but it took quite a while due to the amount of people using it. Toilets where cleaned during the hours of 7 and 8am and again at lunch time we found this to be an inconvenience as they where locked during cleaning, if you wake up during these times, it was a long walk to the next block. The kids club was very much enjoyed by the children I have 4, youngest is 6 oldest is 10, and all four of the children could not wait to go. The play area was also enjoyed by them. A few yards down the road is a Caravan dealer with a shop that is handy to buy the few items that you may need for a caravan, its well stocked with a friendly owner. On the whole we enjoyed our stay at Newlands, it was clean and well run, the staff where helpful to us, the mud was out of the site control due to the weather before we arrived. The rest are niggles that we think would of really made the site stand out for us it they where not there, we only really used the site as a base and used the kids club for the 1 1/2 hr that it run in the morning.

This was our first outing in our tent this year and we chose Newlands based on the facilities and previous reviews - and we weren't disappointed! The staff gave us a very friendly welcome and escorted us to our pitch which was very roomy and located on one of the terraces. We were fairly near the immaculate toilet bock, although I fully echo the previous comments about the showers - my clothes and shoes got soaked! My 2 girls aged 11 and 9 loved the adventure playground which really is the best they've ever visited. The bar prices were expensive but the club house and sun terrace were very comfortable, especially the TV lounge as it had lovely armchairs - a great touch for us campers getting on in years who sometimes crave a few home comforts! The take away provided a good variety of meals, freshly cooked and we also ate in the small restaurant on our first night which was of a very high standard but quite pricey. The freshly baked croissants were really welcome in the mornings, from the well stocked shop. When we came to buy a new gas bottle the site wardens offered to deliver it to our pitch, which we thought was a nice touch. Charmouth itself is a small but quaint village - do try the deli for lots of lovely snacks as well as fresh fruit and veg. The beach is wonderful and the fossil centre really interactive and interesting for the children. To summarise - definite strong points were the friendly staff, adventure playground, woodland setting, club house and clean loos. The down sides were the lack of shower screens and very hard ground ( though this wasn't the fault of the owners!). Newlands is definitely one of the nicest, most family friendly sites we've stayed on and we'll definitely be returning

We've just returned home from 2 nights at Newlands having decided to get away from the kids for a few days. Bought our van 6-8 weeks ago and fancied some use out of it before winter comes. We've used Newlands before in a borrowed van in mid season with our kids and it all runs superbly. This visit was organised on the spur of the moment and we accepted the offer of a grass pitch with 10amp hookup, as the site was fairly busy being half-term. On arrival we were parked on a grass terrace which proved to be a bit swampy, and we were glad of our 4wd to move the van. In fairness they do shut the grass pitches for the winter season but if we had been advised that it would be that wet and slippy we may have gone to another site. If it's been raining - it's not too good on the grass for toddlers, infirm or elderly, and not easy to keep your van clean. There were a few tents in evidence (brave souls with webbed feet!) The toilet/ shower block we used is newly refurbished, but if you've a choice be carefull which shower you use - there is no curtain and in the smaller ones you have to stand your shoes right in the corner so the shower water doesn't soak them, there's no soap dish on the wall, and there's no dry floor to stand on to dress. We didn't use the bar/ food/ pool etc, so you'll have to rely on the other reviews for info. The local area is fabulous - if you've not visited this part of the coast then book early for hard-standing, and make sure you get an early morning "full english" al-fresco at Lyme Regis harbour, (cafe open by 0800) that'll set you up for the day! Newlands has heaps of facilities if you want 'em, it's really handy for getting around as it's close to the main road, and you don't have to drag your van miles down a narrow lane to get to it.

Thank you very much for allocating us a hardstanding at such short notice last week-end when we were let down by another site even though we had booked and paid in advance. We found your staff very friendly and helpful. The site was immaculate and facilities excellent. We were even allowed to take our well behaved dog on his lead into the bar. The fish and chips from the take-away equalled in our opinion Rick Steins in Padstow. We will certainly return again.

First holiday away with our touring caravan. What a shock when we arrived. All tourers were on a steep hill. However, don't panic two wardens come and show you to your pitch and unhook you and pitch you up. Phew what a sweat, but don't worry it's all done for you. Beautiful site, shop excellent, swimming pool brill, club house and entertainment, very good, entertain everybody. Kids club, not that we used it, but seemed to be very well supported. Childrens playground was excellent. Charmouth itself is a lovely quaint town, beautiful. Caravan centre in Charmouth was excellent and very good value. Showers and toilets outstanding and very spacious. Credit to the site. Spaces between caravans was very tight and felt you were too close to your neighbours and as everyone knows you either get on or not. Apart from being sited on a hill, a lovely site.
