This site has all the makings of a fantastic site, excellent tiered but level pitch with fabulous views, great for walks from the campsite and local bus stop outside the door. However they let themselves down with small niggles: The grass was cut but left lying and with no mat at the entrance to the showers, grass was everywhere. The showers in the ladies were very large and heated floors but the water from one shower went straight into next doors. Just not nice to be standing in someone elses soap! The pool was originally cold but they did turn it up when we asked but the jacuzzi wasn't working all week. The changing rooms were small but adequate if only they had been kept clean and children were allowed in the pool without any supervision. Staff were all very nice but I don't want to spend my week complaining, not sure I'll return

I can highly recommend this site- it was only my second time camping (the 1st time we only camped 2 nights!). This time we stayed 6 nights!
On arrival we were greeted by friendly reception staff who gave us a handy booklet for the site and then we were asked to follow the Landrover to our spot- we were in Black Field and had EHU. It is tiered but we felt we had plenty of room but needed our Delta pegs as some of the ground was very hard!
We had a wander round and found all the toilet/shower facilities very good and clean especially the ones by Reception which looked brand new. We always found the showers kept warm/hot constantly and never had a problem- nor did we ever have to queue (which I thought we may have to in August!)
We went to the Bar on an evening and my son aged 4 loved the entertainment (so did we!). Campsite very clean, plenty of staff around to maintain the high standards of the site. We didn't hear the noise from the A35.
Overall I would be very happy to recommend this site and will be returning!

This was a our first family visit to the area and the previous reviews of the site give a good picture. The welcome is very good with a warden in a land rover showing you to your pitch and helping site the tourer as the caravans are faced forward in which means you are not directly looking at other caravans.
The toilet block was always clean and showers always available and they were not of the push button type (excellent). The on site shop was good and well priced.
The function room is adequate, although meals are expensive especially children's meals and were not that large for price.
The indoor pool is nice but expensive, changing rooms and shower poor for indoor pool but children insisted on visiting most days, it could do with supervision as teenagers did run a little wild.
Outdoor pool was good although advertised to be open until 7pm the slide was closed earlier plus there are no changing facilities.
Site could do with late night security walk as noise from people leaving club plus we noted some seasonal pitches ignored the 10pm curfew on noise and there was no telephone nr to contact in pack for night issues, plus there is a lot of road noise from A35 and road into Charmouth.
Site is good though and would visit again

Stayed at Newlands the last week in july for our first real camping trip with 2 children under 4 and would like to say what a brilliant holiday we had. (It helped we had glorious sunshine all week!)
The site was clean and tidy with bins emptied twice a day and the shower blocks always clean no matter what time we used them. Our pitch was on the tiered pitches which was ok but some seemed quite small, it didn't affect us as ours was on the end of the row so I could leave my van on the path, some others had to leave their cars in the site car park.
Facilities in the clubhouse were ok but thought there was no need to charge for the indoor pool as there was no attendant. We didn't eat in the bar area but thought the food was quite expensive for what was on offer on the menu, would recommend the charmouth fish bar as a takeaway and also for a sit down evening meal.
Overall the site was ideal for us with children but if I could give any advice to fellow campers it would be rock pegs and ear plugs due to the ground been extremely hard and the A35 road been quite noisy at night.

A really good family site. Stayed in a tent with 3 kids in July. Helped by good weather but the site is first class.
Toilet/Shower/Laundry facilities are always clean, there's lots of them and showers are free. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids play park is good for all ages and there are lots of other open spaces. Would definitely recommend the site to others.
The only negatives are the prices in the restaurant/bar area are on the high side, entertainment is pretty dated/poor and as the site is stepped because its on the side of a hill, you need rock pegs for a tent but these are very small negatives against a first class family site.

Just returned from a shorkbreak at Newlands with our tourer. This was our first visit and overall very pleased with the site. On arrival the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked a premium pitch with full services and were shown to the pitch by a helpful warden who offered us a choice of available pitches.
The pitches are all a little on the small side but not cramped. The hardstanding pitches are all gravel with room for your caravan and awning, be warned it is hard underfoot even with the groundsheet so shoes are a must in the awning. This aside the pitch was level and due to the gravel very well drained.
A tip for those of you with motor movers, the site prefers you to park hitch first into the pitches, which are all tiered, my motor mover struggled a little pushing my solid jockey wheel through the gravel so a pneumatic jockey tyre is order of the day. The premium pitches have 16amp electric, fresh water stand and grey waste drain. The site is very well kept with short grass and trees.
Showers are too few for the size of site I think, as in peak season there could be a bit of a queue, though to be fair, during my stay the site was very quiet. Other reviews have noted thet the showers pulse between hot and cold, I can confirm this and this really needs to be sorted. The shower/toilet blocks are kept very clean.
The entertainment bar serves very good fresh food at reasonable prices and the bar is well stocked and again not expensive.
There appears to be some form of entertainment every night, varying throughout the season from Bingo, to quizes, disco, open mike nights to performers. The entertainment area if huge with plenty of comfortable seating.
There are two pools on site, an outdoor pool which is free of charge, and a heated indoor pool with jacuzzi, this costs £2 per swim, or £10 for 10 swims. The indoor pool is lovely and warm and very popular, so again probably a bit small to cater for the size of site.
Newlands has a wifi system with a strong signal, charges apply for this but you can pay for half an hour through to the entire length of your stay.
Digital TV reception is fair, I only managed to receive ten channels, but this did include the 5 main channels.
There is an on site chipshop as well, if this is closed don't worry as you can order take away food at the bar.
Charmouth is easy walking distance from the site and has a shingle beach front, a few shops and a few pubs.
The site appears to be very child friendly and has a kids soft play room and a playground on site, the early evening disco caters for the young children.
On the whole I would recommend this site and despite some of my little criticisms will certainly be returning again next year.

We visited here the royal wedding weekend and we had a lovely couple of days so much so I didn't want to leave to go to the next campsite we had booked!
Everything was immaculate, toilets and showers were brilliant. A baby bath/changing room was a god send to bath my 6 month old. There is a soft play area downstairs of the clubhouse which my 2 year old spend hours running around.
The karaoke/disco was good, There was a dino character wandering around which pleased most of the kids and on our last day there was a lady with lots of circus apparatus who taught the children (and many of the adults) how to juggle, balance, baton twirl etc She was a lovely lady and we enjoyed this workshop very much.
The staff were all friendly and happy to help. There is a chippy on site which we didn't visit but looked fine. The shop had plenty and prices we acceptable. Unsure about the swimming pool as we didn't go in. The is a outdoor swimming pool which was closed while we were there and a huge play area which my little one loved.
Lyme Regis is very close and stunning, one of my favourite places in the world. We were lucky as the fossil festival was on that weekend and we would recommend this to anyone as it was so interesting and loads for the kids to do. We went crabbing as well off the harbour.
All in all we will certainly be going back, Newlands made our tour of Dorset even more enjoyable.

The facilities have been upgraded since our last visit a few years ago. They're now really excellent, with 'wet room' style tiled showers with ample room for dressing. There's under-floor heating which kept it warm even in an exceptionally cold November.
The location's ideal for walking eastwards along the coast, going over Golden Cap with lovely views all around. Then there are several opportunities to cut inland to the road, where two bus services will bring you back right to the entrance of the campsite.

My wife and I stayed here and as it happens it was the end of season party with a Carry on Camping party night with an amazing band playing on the Saturday.
After this amazing first night things turned into the biggest disappointment ever, with the bar being closed, the shop closed, chipshop closed and pool closed. I went to reception to complain the fact that everything was closed and what were we meant to do until Wednesday where I was told it was written in the T&C's due to the time of year
Thankfully we found some nice pubs close by, one being The Royal Oak in Charmouth. I am left feeling very disappointed with our stay and think it was a nice site let down by the lack of information to guests when booking.

Great site. Had a family gathering here so mixture of outfits, caravan with awning, small tents + large tents.
Pitches of good size. Site on a slope, so bit of a drag to the top pitches. Good staff, helped to pitch. Very friendly.
Pebbly beach close by. Not too busy.
Pool on site. Facilities good.
Loads of room for wandering around.
Good directions, Easy to find. Nearby town easy walking distance. Ample shops.
