Campsite was lovely and well maintained, children's play area was very good and spacious. The plot which we had been allocated was very hard and needed all weather pegs. The showers and toilets were clean but the washing area was old and a bit grubby. The bar and lounge area was nice but too much cigarette smoke for us as we had four young children. We didn't use the pool as the smaller pool was far too small for the children, (my family alone would have filled it up) and the larger pool too deep. We were only there for three evenings and on our last evening there was a 'party' going on over the hedge from us. We went to bed at 10 o'clock as we had to get children up early to leave next day the party was going on then. We did not say anything at the time as it would have been too early to say anything but it was 1.30am by the time the music was stopped and at least 2 o'clock before they had calmed down. The site attendants did not do anything to lower the noise. The restaurant shuts at 8 in the evening and the camp take-away shut at 9 which I found to be a little early if you went out for the day and wanted something to eat when you got back. Charmouth itself has some nice pubs if you fancy a pub meal and is a lovely village.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The outside pool is rather cold but the indoor pool is lovely. The kids club operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings with a small 'production' on Saturday evening. Under 5's must be accompanied but as long as you sit in the bar area it's ok. The site itself is good. The childrens playground is very good. The shop sells a good range of products, with fresh croissants and other pastries every morning. The two shower blocks are spacious but there is sometimes a queue and the showers are closed to be cleaned between 6 and 7am and 7 and 8am, which was a bit inconvenient for us as that's about the time our kids wake up. The onsite take away is good but be prepared for a long wait. There is a restaurant but we didn't eat there. The bar seemed rather expensive, 1 pint of beer and 4 soft drinks was over £7. The upside was that dogs were allowed inside. The dog walking field was ok but even though bags were provided, some people still refuse to pick up after their dog. Dogs are not allowed on the (pebbly) beach at Charmouth. The site was busy so we had to pitch on the overflow field which was sloping. Overall, good and we would return.

Just spent one night here (it was good to find a place that will take just 1 night bookings!) Pitches reasonable size. Lovely clean showers and toilets . Super kids play area and pools. Staff all really friendly and helpful. What I did like was the tents and caravans were in separate areas. A bit pricey but then everything is on site. Would definitely go back

September 2005 A well maintained site with plenty of large showers with clothes hooks and seats. Two pools although you do have to pay to use the indoor one (£1.50 per hour). The site is very steep, not ideal for wheelchairs, bikes or prams. There is a cashpoint onsite which was very handy also a well stocked shop, takeaway (everything cooked from scratch so you may have a wait) resturant and bar. Wasn't very impressed with the dog exercise area as it was a short path. Probably will go back but not in winter as the pitches are extremely slippery when wet.

September 2005 We first visited this site in June 2005.
My wife and I are under canvas campers, but having just had our 2nd child in the May my wife insisted that if we were to camp it would be on her terms, and that meant a static caravan. We originally went to a ghastly site in Looe, Cornwall. It was so bad that we left before our time, were refused a refund and therefore lost quite a few quid. We returned home vowing never to go static again.
We set off for a day out to Lyme Regis with our 3 year old daughter and new-born son. Rather naively we thought, as it was not high season, if we decided to stay out there would be an abundance of B&B's. Wrong! An apparently popular destination whatever the time of year.
After being turned away several times we headed for the Tourist Information office and they recommended Newlands. I got on the phone and spoke to Natalie. She said that no matter what, they'd have something to suit our budget and/or tastes and we could just turn up anytime before 8pm and they'd sort us out. When we arrived there were were greeted with a smile and a cheery hello, even though it was the end of a long day (it was the day of the London bombings).
To or surprise Natalie had set aside a set of keys to every type of accomodation on offer at the site. A motel room, a poolside apartment, a log cabin and a static caravan. All were superb, but we surprised ourselves when we opted for the static. It was immaculate.
We had a wonderful stay, so much so that we extended it, twice!
My parents are members of the caravan club but have been complaining recently about the cost of membership and spiralling pitch fees. I suggested Newlands to them and they took a day trip to look at it and booked there and then for their late holiday. My family and I have just returned from there having spent a night with them on the way home from our holiday in Devon. They love the place. The icing on the cake for my father is being able to take his dog into the clubhouse.
The site is very well maintained and the staff a very friendly and polite.
I know this site is a favourite of members of ukcampsite.co.uk. Why? because I saw loads of ukcampsite.co.uk T-shirts and pennants. There must have been some kind of rally going on.
I for one have no hesitation in recommending this site. If you do go and find something about it you don't like (and I doubt you will), go to reception and tell them. I would put money on the fact that they can sort it out to your satisfaction.

August 2005 Booked up after reading the reviews for this site and have some good points and some not so good.
Good Points: Very friendly staff all happy to help with advice and info, well stocked shop, great welcome and personal help to pitch. Toilets and showers were clean but ladies were not enough and queues ensued (peak periods!)Great little shop and a nice bar.
Not so good: Very steep slopes (tiered level pitches) too steep for under 5 cycles, near to A35 main road so road noise was initially a problem but you get used to it, could do with more than one hair dryer in ladies shower block. Smoking in the same area as the kids club upset us and stopped any further visits.... not non smoker friendly, we thought the club was smogged out....
However the staff were lovely and we thought that they made up for the rest of the bad points, because it is a big site there were plenty of pitches and even at peak we were able to book late for a week.
The George pub in Charmouth was fantastic! Great food and drink and a play area second to none, I loved the lasagne!
Charmouth beach is pebbly and rocky at high tide and flat sand at low tide, great! Lyme Regis is lovely, Beer is really nice, Axminster and Bridport are within easy reach...
All in all a nice week and a lovely part of the country.

August 2005 We choose this site as it was known to me because I used to live in the village. The site was great to stay on even though a bit slopey. This was our 1st camping trip and we had a great time. Really relaxing. The children aged 10 & 11. went off to find the playground and within minutes were bringing new found friends around to say hi. The playground was good for both children young and old. Shower block always had hot water and the queue was not all that bad, we did go at a really busy time. Just try to avoid wanting a shower 1st thing and let the rush subside. Signs on the doors to let you know when the shower blocks would be closed for cleaning.
All in all the holiday was a great success and I would recommend this site to anyone who doesn't mind a hill to climb, only downfall but that does not reflect on the site at all.

July 2005 Can only repeat what others have said about this site. The staff were friendly and all the facilities were kept clean. Toilets and showers were never busy and always had loads of hot water. One point that has'nt been mentioned is that dogs are allowed in the clubhouse. which meant no one had to babysit our "charlie". Had a great time and will certainly be going back.

May 2005 This was our first time camping so we were not entirely sure what to expect... Even after reading the reviews... but we were pleasantly surprised. The facilities were great we took advantage of the clean and warm shower blocks each day. Never had to queue. £ 3.00 for washing machine...20p for the iron and 70p for about 15 minutes drying needed at least 30 minutes to dry towels etc. (washing lines not allowed) Check out the cleaning times for the loos as if like me you are an early riser you may find yourself having to cross your legs or run to another block!
We stayed for a week and I only got turned away the once from the loos. They clean them at 6.30-7.30am.....then again twice during the day/evening. They was a nice indoor pool my advise if you like to swim take advantage of the pre payment swimming card it saves you a bit. The pool is warm and there is a Jacuzzi only got busy when the raining but it was half term so you would expect it.
We were pitched in black field at the top of the hill (you do get used to the hill in time) we had a good pitch but soon discovered that being under a tree is not ideal especially when it rains things do tend to take longer to dry out.......
Never tried the take away but it always looked busy. There is a chip shop in the village (Charmouth) which is also bizarrely an off license and a strange queuing system bless!!!!!!. Everything is cooked to order but it is well worth the wait.
We were next to the toilets showers etc...but the pitches are set out in terraces and there is no way up the grass banks you have to walk to the end of the tarmac otherwise it was quite comical to watch people attempt them armed with toilet bags towels and clothes..... a lot of middle aged women ended up flat on their faces personally I think it was more to do with the wine!
Anyway it is an ideal base if you wish to visit Devon, Weymouth, Sidmouth and lots of other seaside towns. Lyme Regis is great if you like old style seaside only 1 arcade and lots of great pubs all serving excellent food. Try The Harbour Inn the seafood is excellent but you need to book if eating in the restaurant although they do serve the same meals in the bar go early to avoid disappointment.
We had our 5 year old son in tow who liked the park and the beach digging for fossils which amazingly are plentiful...the beach at Charmouth was a disappointment lots of rubbish but if you venture further along it gets better.
I will be recommending this site to all family and friends. Well done Newlands. Probably overdid the review but hope this helps people decide to visit an amazing part of the country which is unspoilt. Don’t forget to try the Dorset Apple cake……….
