This is a very pleasant quiet campsite. There is an adults’ only area although it resembles a stone car park with areas of grass to the side of the caravan. There is a much nicer family area where there is a large field to look out onto. Pitches are flat and dry. There are some lakes but they are for anglers only as there is a sign saying “only anglers beyond this point”. There are ‘dog walks’ around the campsite which is a nice idea for dogs and people but unfortunately they are very boggy so you need wellies to do these.

The biggest problem for us was the lack of mobile phone coverage. EE was so weak that the phone would not work inside the caravan and it was very variable outside. O2 did have a weak signal that could be used but both networks did not have sufficient data signal to use. I don’t know about Vodafone. It would be nice if the site owners compensated for this by providing for free WiFi but unfortunately they charge £6 per day or £10 per 2 days and there are very low limits for download involved (100Mb) – this suggests that WiFi is definitely an ‘upsale’ for them.

Toilets were clean and well kept. They are in the process of refurbishing the main toilets so we were using the family rooms which were also very nice and we didn’t have any problems with queues. There is a coded barrier for entry and exit which is good for security but we were confused as to why they also had a height barrier – this meant that we could not return in the evening with bikes on the roof of our car which is a bit of an inconvenience, especially as unwanted guests are already prevented from entering through the barrier.

There is a pub within walking distance but if you want food then it’s just under 3 miles to Walton-on-Trent where we found the food to be excellent. There is also a local fish and chip shop and the Chinese and Pizza takeaways deliver to the barrier.

As far as the site and the area goes we would be quite happy to return but unfortunately the lack of phone and data signal coupled with the charge for WiFi will be the deciding factor that makes us choose somewhere else in the future.

Stayed one night in The Paddocks.

The pitch was all gravel (maybe granite chippings?).

The whole site is very spacious but The Paddocks is surrounded by trees so no views.

Staff friendly and helpful.

Facilities OK.

It's quiet, very quiet.

There is CCTV everywhere.

There is a height barrier from late evening until morning so campervans/motorhomes might find themselves locked in or out.

Great chippie in village a few minues walk away.

Fantastic site for walking fishing or just a peaceful weekend. Lots f local walks or walks on site. Staff are great We use this site a lot but now find that the price increase this year is making it a n expensive choice. Early season no free showers available thus adding more to the nightly price as the Family rooms are 50p for shower (a good size but a waste for just 2people ). Extra charges for kids dogs and awning this I find annoying as the awning is on your own pitch. Electric rating is a problem. Only site I know where you cannot have heating and hot water on together. Totally love his site and would recommend it to any-one but if the owners are not careful they will price themselves out of the market as a lot of sites offer the same facilities for a lot less per night. There a lots of choices of pitches we prefer the duck pond as this s quieter. Very large field for camping and an adults only section

We hadn't been camping for a few years so we decided to get back into the swing of things and we weren't disappointed! We stayed for 2 nights on pitch 22 and were amazed at how quiet and peaceful it was, the layout was good with each pitch numbered and we had the beauty of the woodland all around. The toilets/showers were only a couple of minutes walk away and were being constantly tendered by the staff. The showers were 50p and well worth it and the family rooms give you a great deal of privacy. We took our dog with us and there's a footpath running through the park so I ventured on a 6 mile walk through coton in the elms and the neighbouring areas including the brilliant national forest and rosliston forestry centre only a mile away. Having been surrounded by tents in the past, we had plenty of space and the large field made it good for the kids. We treated ourselves to a bacon butty from the cafe on site in the morning, would definitely recommend this site a nice relaxing weekend!

This was our first ever camping trip. What a lovely location. Beautiful site. Staff friendly and helpful. We had glade 22 pitch which was on the end and although this was a bank holiday we had no-one next to us.

The toilets were lovely and clean as were the family rooms. Again considering it was bank holiday we had no problems getting washed. Would definitely go back. There was a small charge for the farm, as these are rescue animals we didn't mind paying the fee.

The only slight complaint was the gas gun that kept going off in the farmers field behind the site. It sounded like a bomb going off, we did get used to it though. Beautiful lakes and walks. All in all a lovely break with my husband and daughter.

This site is geared to caravans and motorhomes rather than tents. However our choice of this site was based on it being convenient for visiting friends and sights in the area.

It's a very pleasant and generally flat site, sheltered and quiet. EHU was good, but required our cable to be extended to its maximum, something I've not experienced before.

Layout of the pitches in the field were we where could have been better, We returned to find our car which we had parked on the hard standing, surrounded by tents and motorhomes. Very careful reversing through narrow gaps to avoid hitting motorhomes or running over guy ropes was required to get out. The site is large enough to have neat privet hedges as in France to define the pitches.

It was a long walk to the toilet and washing facilities, which had lots of hot water. The facilities, based on portakabins were adequate.

The small shop was able to provide everything we needed.

There were were too many petty notices around the place for my liking. It wasn't cheap, and while the staff were polite, I felt the convenience of the management took precedence over the needs and comfort of the campers.

Would we go there again? In a caravan, yes; in a tent, no.

Just returned from 2 nights at this site. The site itself I think is more for people that want to go fishing. The showers were clean but a bit hit and miss with hot water and sometimes not even working we only used the family shower rooms so cannot comment on the smaller shower area. We were pitched in the adult only paddock area which was fine but a word of warning you need an extremly long hook up cable! There are no bins in this area and if you have mobility issues the toilets and showers are a fair walk! There are no disabled facilities. The village itself is very quiet. There is a co-op, chippy and 2 pubs that's it! the site has a cafe which seemed very popular.

On the whole we wouldn't camp there again because of the distance to the toilets and showers (my husband has one leg. ) if we had realised this problem we would not of booked but I think if you are fit and able and want a quiet couple of days away this site I'm sure would suit you fine!

The staff and wardens are very friendly and it would seem that it is a very secure site if all the CCTV cameras are anything to go by!

Happy holidaying!

Stayed here for two nights and although a very tidy site it has far too many rules. If you are staying at this for fishing please read the rules first, it seems to be about the care of the fish but we went fishing one day (had to lock the dog in the caravan because they are not allowed around the lake) only to witness youths fishing without a landing net and dragging a large fish in by the line, although the CCTV that is advertised to be everywhere they didn't pick this up.

If you have a dog this really isn't a dog friendly site. Lots of signs saying no dogs.

Just spent another long weekend at this great site, amber weather warnings, flood alerts etc etc but hey ho

Friendly warden,

The showers are great, 50p for a shower room with a wc, basin, 2 mirrors, chair, plug socket(50p) plenty of room. Free showers also available but smaller space.

4 indoor pot- washing areas plenty of hot water

Small shop and cafe on site

Good size pitches, nice walking areas, 2 good pubs in village, found a lovely Indian restaurant in Coton in Elms and Burton town not far away,

Only little niggle no campers fridge you have to pay 50p to freeze your cool blocks

But we don't mind its well worth it to stay on this site.

Going back in September it should have stopped raining by then.

Had a brilliant weekend here, on arrival the staff were really friendly and helpful,

we were meant to be pitched in the main field but because of the ground being so wet we were moved to the rally field which suited us even better because there were 8 of us and we could all be together.

The toilets/showers were lovely and clean even though they looked like old portable cabins (could do with being updated)

The shop was good for basics,

My only criticism was charging the kid's to go in the play area, I understand charging for the petting farm but not the swings.

This site is perfect for us, lots of walking if we want too and nice and quiet. We are definitely going back and hopefully soon!
