The sat-nav takes you to an impassable bridge at, walton on trent, if you are coming from the north,

The site itself is huge. We had electric hook up in a nice spot that was once a duck pond. The only trouble is the toilets are a good 300 meters away,

In the gents there were two toilets, two sinks and two showers, the shower doors are that big that you have a job changing in them, the ladies have 3 toilets I think and there are two family rooms that have a shower and a toilet each. The whole block looks like a mish mash stockade, if the site was full it may have a job to cope,

The surrounding area is beautiful, the first pub you come to 5 mins walk is the plough, it was under new management then shut, then open again. There is another pub in the village, a chippy and a co-op,

The forest walk in rosliston is great. The fishing also looks good. Went to burton by taxi £10 between four of us. Also drove to tamworth, nice place,

When they put toilets at the top end I'll go back,

Having 'phoned, on Friday to see if staying on the Saturday night only would be a problem, it wasn't. However when we arrived we were asked why we hadn't pre booked and that they only took min 2 night bookings. So they would have to charge us a premium and we had to have/pay for hook up even if we didn't want or used it. As is was 5pm and with 2 children we paid the £20 and stayed. It was a very wet night and following morning so we didn't get to do a great deal but it seems a very quiet and well placed forest site with lots of walks and I imagine lovely. The shower block is very basic and why sites that accept motorhomes do not have a 'drive over' grey waste disposal I do not know, so we could not empty our tanks (without a bucket).

Great potential given the setting but initially impolite, and need much better shower/toilet facilities. Would prefer not to use this site again until I know the site has improved these basic requirements.

Stayed for long weekend, and is an ideal site for such a stay. Cafe and site shop should cover essentials, small Co-Op in village 7/10 minute walk. Two pubs local a third being refurbished and looks to be opening shortly, (this one looks favourite for pub meals), Fish & chip take away next to Co-Op also due to open shortly.

Full freeview reception, level pitches, children's play area, reception staff very helpful. Toilet and shower facilities well maintained 2 toilets 2 showers in the gents, 3 family shower rooms (small charge for use of shower)

As mentioned by previous reviewers larger field ideal for families, we stayed in the Paddock only 8 pitches great for adults only.

10 minute drive from Burton on trent where you will find all major supermarkets

Followed the sat-nav religiously, you are at your destination. Are we? missed it the first time! The signage is only visible once you've passed it, gone around the mini-roundabout and are heading back! A minor grumble that was instantly outweighed by the friendliness of the welcome. What a friendly moustachioed gentleman.

Got to pitch, lots of space between them so you're not on top of your neighbour. Pitch was clean and flat too.

Note to future campers with EHU - the EHU is in blocks of 4 for 4 pitches, we had a 10meter hook-up but being on the outer pitch our cable didn't reach.

Pitch Pitch EHUx4 Pitch Pitch is the layout. This however was immediately rectified by a short walk back to the charming gent who provided (for free) a EHU extension, issue solved!

Lovely countryside and wasn't busy when there so was really quite peaceful too. Even the wild rabbits are tame and will hop into your tent (while you're sat there watching them) for a nose and then hop out again!

We don't fish so didn't take advantage of the lake, and there's a mini-animal zone which we didn't visit either.

The loos were spotless, the showers warm (i liked the fact you could depress the red button to turn the heat up beyond the 38 degrees!

Bit of a walk for water, it's not set up with a tap by your pitch like some others, perhaps I've just been spoilt! but it gave the kids something to do and me 5 minutes peace and quiet while they filled the water carriers.

Down sides -

1)as small as one is, a 10:00 check out, we felt that was a bit too early, especially to disassemble 2 tents whilst keeping an eye on 4 kids! So we left a night early, packing up in the afternoon, heading off for the day, then an evening travel home on quieter roads. I think had it been a later check-out we would have stayed the last night.

2)we had 4 kids with us from 2-11 and other than an expanse of fields for them to run around in, there was no other distraction for them, a play area of a sort would've been good. But then not everyone camps with kids I suppose!

We headed straight for Burton-on-Trent for our evening shop (so can't comment on the local co-op 5 mins down the road) and what can you say about a 24hr Tesco in B-o-T 15 mins away other than it's a Tesco like all others!

If ever we're heading that way again, we'd certainly re-use this site, just hope that they amend their check-out to a little later.

This was our first visit to Beehive. There were three units, ours and two of our neighbours. We did ask to be put together on the large field (The Glade) with EHU but guess what? on arrival we found a caravan had been put between our pitches. So we were not all together as arranged.

OK, that said off we went to set up in the rain/drizzle. Within three minutes of leaving the reception my mate was told to use the proper pedestrian access to the site and not walk under the vehicle access barrier. Then we had the warning that the Westy dog had to be on a lead at all times.

EHU are only down one side of the large field and your hook up has to be at least 25 metres in length or you may not reach the power post. We made it by a couple of foot (Phew) The grass was cut nice and short but the ground was very stony. The top four inches were fine but after that it was very hard to get pegs in.

The toilet/showers were rather old and small. This was the worst thing about the site as although the staff were very 'on-the-ball' with the rules and most helpful with our queries about pubs/shops etc the toilet blocks were inadequate.

Two sinks, two toilets and two showers in the gents. The showers had no shelves to place items and most of the hooks were broken. The showers were warm enough but the flow was just a trickle at peak times. Best to go late afternoon.

There were family rooms but we didn't use them so can't comment.

The location of the EHU tents was also a bit of a problem as the rest of the site use a gravel roadway to get to the toilets.

If you are going in a tent and want EHU ask for any placement apart from the large field.

All this for £22 a night

Top tip. If you want to eat out, use a pub called the Cricketts Inn in Acresford about 20 mins drive from the site. Food to die for, so make sure you book in advance.

Back to Beehive. Would 'we' go again? probably not.

Booked this camp site last minute, not been around Derbyshire before and wanted to try somewhere different.

We only stayed over the weekend and managed to get electric hook up.

There seems to be a lot of rules but I suppose that is up to you if you wish to stay.

Really friendly and pleased we chose this site. It was very clean and tidy with little shop and cafe on the site which we did not use but handy to have.

We were put on pitch number 13 which is through the paddock field and to the right which only accommodates 8 hook ups which is surrounded by trees but still have enough space for yourself, only moan I would have is relating to myself as I am more of a people watcher and would have liked to stay in larger field.

The larger field only has so many electric hook ups down one side and think you would get more people coming to the site if you decided to add more electric hook ups in the larger field

There is a fishing lake which again the surrounding area clean and tidy and nice to walk around and did notice they have a lot of regular customers who have been coming for so many years.

Local co op only couple of minutes away we drove 10 minutes away to Burton on Trent and Swadlincote which are two nice towns.

Good relaxing weekend, I know the weather was really hot but even if this was not the case still would have enjoyed

Lovely site; very friendly staff in Reception and in small shops on site, especially the Gift shop and camping supplies et al shop (Don't be put off by it looking like a shed!)

Pitches were some of the largest we have been on and loads of space between neighbours. Toilets and showers were spotless.

Co-op nearby was fine for some shopping although basics are available including newspapers in the site shop inside Reception!

Lovely walks on site with the dog but must keep them on leads at all times. Fishing is good so we were told by those partaking of it.

We have been searching for a good value site close to home and we think we've found it (32 minutes from storage to site!). We like it so much we've just been in and booked for August Bank Holiday weekend!

Well we have just got back from a glorious 4 night stay at the site. The weather could not have been nicer! The site was very well maintained and the facilities were always spotless. As previous reviews mentioned, there is only two showers per sex - but there are two family showers and there does seem to be more being built. The animal farm was small and I do think it should be included in the site fees as it has the only play area on the site - that is what the site could really benefit from. However, we would go back tomorrow! My husband even enjoyed a spot of fishing - without a moan from me! My kids, who are 6, 10 and 12 really loved it too!

Nice site - open field bordered by trees. Has everything you need, not too crowded and decent, clean facilities. Would recommend getting a pitch behind the main field area - they're behind a line of trees and more sheltered.

Unfortunately visited during the recent heavy rain storms - would have enjoyed it more had it been sunnier - but hey, this is the British summer after all.

Very handy for Drayton Manor Theme Park, Tamworth Castle, Conkers and loads of other attractions = plus there's an absolutely MASSIVE Asda at Tamworth!

Just returned from Beehive Farm and happy I didn't take note of some of the reviews I'd read! We've had a brilliant weekend and all the staff were really friendly and asked a few times if everything was OK! They put us in a quiet field away from young families, although we wouldn't have minded where we were pitched!

There are only two showers in each set of toilets but we never had to queue and they are clean and warm. There is also a family shower where I believe you pay 50p to use, where the showers are larger and better temperature controlled to avoid any mishaps, but I didn't find a problem at all with the ordinary ones.

There is a little shop selling basics (Co-op is just a short distance away), a cafe and bike hiring facilities and also a little animal farm that will keep the little ones amused. Can't wait to take my unborn grandson there! There are also a few fishing lakes and a pond.

It's very peaceful here with some lovely walks, a pub just down the road with good food and Sky Sports.

We will be returning there next month hopefully!
