Spent our first night here in our new caravan.
On our arrival we were welcomed by the owner who is an extremely friendly and helpful chap.

Our pitch was huge and the site was fantastic, very peaceful and tranquil but really nicely laid out. There is a small animal farm which the kids really enjoyed and for £1 for kids and £2 for adults it's a great way to spend an hour.

The showers and toilet block were immaculate with hot water at just the right temperature. There's a well stocked Co-op a few minutes drive from the site and a fantastic little cafe on-site.

We had a really lovely time here and were made to feel very welcome. Well done Beehive!

Just a little word of caution for caravanners if you're using Sat Nav to find the site  enter post code DE12 8JD and pick up the brown signs in the village for Beehive, that way you'll avoid the VERY narrow Walton-On-Trent bridge.

We went camping over the last bank holiday weekend in May and arrived early (9am ish), very glad we did as we were only the second tent outfit to pitch on the glade so had plenty of space to manoeuvre. One first impression we were quite put off by the knee high grass, obviously hadn't been mowed for months, the owner did apologise and say he hadn't had time to do it (bearing in mind it was a bank holiday weekend and he was fully booked - thought he might have made the effort)) this did turn out to be a bit of a god-send in the end as it rained hard and fast for 3 days and if the grass hadn't been that long it would have turned to mud but fortunately the ground remained incredibly well drained! Stunning place with lovely walks and the biggest "wild" bunnies we had ever seen (more like small dogs) who were very amusing and friendly.

The toilet block was lovely and clean at all times and the 2 showers for each sex (free of charge) were lovely and warm however they are very small cubicles so can be hard with kids, I sent my 9 year old in and she managed OK. There are 2 really large family rooms with wash basin, loo and shower (with temperature control) which we spotted however there is a coin meter for this shower taking 50p's but not sure how long you get for your money. Be careful with small children as the toilets lock with a bolt on the inside (cheap job from the look of it) which means they cant be opened from the outside so if your child cant open it they would have to literally smash the door down! Nice clean pot wash facilities.

On-site cafe is fantastic, the fisherman's breakfast (2 sausage, 2 bacon, fried bread, egg, beans, tomatoes, toast, tea/coffee) cost £4.50 but is made with really high quality ingredients - absolutely worth every penny! Cafe gets really busy though so be warned! They do a take-out service for sausage/bacon sandwiches which is handy when its raining too much to cook outside and you really must have tea and cakes in the afternoon, at £1 a slice you get an enormous portion of real home-made cake (several choices) which is gorgeous!

The on-site shop is very bad, only really sold loads of dog food (?!?!) and chocolate. Odd loaf of bread or jar of jam but certainly not enough to create a proper dinner. Everything was really over-priced including all the kids souvenirs (some you could buy 2 for £1 in the shop down the road and they were selling at £1.50 each!) even charged 40p per ice-pack if you wanted them freezing, best bit was on 2 days he shut shop an hour early meaning those who had paid for their packs to be frozen couldn't get them!. Kids only entertainment (very small play area) was situated in the "farm" which cost an extra £2 per adult £1 per child for a day ticket (cost us £6 a day) consisted of a few bunnies & chickens in pens, a couple of pigs and goats and 3 very noisy peacocks (wake up at around 4am) definitely not value for money - bit of a con!

Too sum up, lovely surrounding and nice clean facilities on large site, everything (apart form cafe) over-priced and absolutely no signposts anywhere so you have to just try doors to find things like pot-wash and loo's. Would be good for families if weather is nice enough to play on grass, other than that you may struggle.

Just come back from a weekend at this site, four families x 4 tents. It is a very nice site with friendly, helpful staff who were very accommodating.

The toilets and showers are very clean and comprise of 2 showers, 3 toilets, ladies. 2 showers, 2 toilets, men's. 2 family shower rooms with toilets, hairdryers and sinks. [these were the only hair dryers]. In the family room the showers were 50p, but there was plenty of water for at least 3 people, the hairdryer was 50p also, and again lasted for at least 3 people. The other showers were free, and were fine.

There is a small playground within a small farm with rabbits, goats etc, although there is a charge of £1 children, £2 adults, which we all thought was a bit steep. We also got charged 50p per ice pack to freeze which we also thought was a bit steep. We didn't use the tea rooms, but we did phone for a delivery Chinese which was very nice.
The grass was quite long, which makes it more hard wearing, but as we had a wet weekend, we got very wet trousers and feet walking to toilet block. [wellies probably needed]. Left early due to rain, but would definitely revisit as we all enjoyed our stay, and liked the camp site.

Read the reviews and gave this site a try, personally I found it disappointing to say the least.  Th hardstanding area was very cramped and a bit scruffy we were just so thankful we had a pitch right at the end in the little field for grass pitches with electric hook ups , this part was quite peaceful. Only 2 ladies showers can't imagine how busy that will be in high season. Showers and toilets were quite a trek from the pitch too. There was no disposal area for "grey" waste water we were told to just let it run onto the pitch at the back of the van.

I think that it is unfair to have to pay extra to use the kiddies farm area! What a con! We went to the shop about half hour before it was due to close not realising we had to pay to use the kids play area and even so they still wanted me to pay full price to go in! £2 per adult and £1 per child so for me to take the kids in for half an hours play it would have cost me £5. There was no other play area for kids, so for the price we paid for the pitch etc the value for money was rubbish.

Only good thing I have to say about this site is that on Sundays and Bank holiday Mondays you don't have to vacate your pitch until 4pm.
Nice area with some great walks, very peaceful and tranquil and great lakes nearby good for fishing. Great for cycling in the area too. Co-op shop in the village stocks most things you would need for a weekend.

We went in the middle of January.  Site was quite dry. Lovely and quiet. Plenty of space. Cute little "Zoo" to visit (Just farm animals) worth an hour. Handy for National Forrest Attractions.

Very friendly staff.  Not too many rules. Great Cafe on site.  10 mins walk to the pub in village, but we didn't go.  Little co-op in village but only 15 mins to Burton.

Clean adequate facilities even at this time of year.

There were a group of us went here to the national meet 17 people in all from our group
We wont be going again all though the weekend was good and we had a very nice time the facilities were appalling the 2 showers and 3 toilets were always full and very smelly the only respite was UK campsite brought in portaloos if not for those well I wouldn't like to think what would have happened
Plus the ground was solid really bad we broke all our tent pegs
And the animal enclosure was very scabby its a rip off you have to pay minimum of £3 to go in £2 per adult £1 per child to play on a dilapidated park
We were not impressed at all

Was here as part of the UKCampsite.co.uk National Members Meet, we had full run of the whole site, so only the 105 units with us were here.

This place is not the easiest to find, and the directions on the website for BeeHive are not the easiest to understand, however when we finally found the site , the reception area is a large shop, where you will find everyday essentials and some useful camping equipment in case you forget the odd thing.

The site is split into two, to the left isthe electric hookup area and the left is the non-electric rally field. There is one toilet and shower block at the other end of the car park, so can be quite a hike if camped at the bottom of the field. They are putting in new facilities which will be finished by the end of the 2006 season. The current showers and toilets were always clean, and worked well.

Some of the electric pitches are hard standing and some are on grass, all pitches on the rally field are on grass. There are three fishing lakes on-site with some strict rules, however this makes the fishing safe and fair for all, however someone I was there with did say that they did not catch a lot, so maybe the lakes need re-stocking, I would also ask for the rules when booking, as there are a lot of don'ts and you will need to ensure you have the correct hooks, nets etc.

The site is set in loads of acres and seems to never end, with some lovely walk all around. It is all part of the National Park too.

There is a local Coop 500 yards from the site that will cover all you food needs over the weekend, however if you want a bigger shop then there is a Tesco and a Sainsburys , both about 5 miles from the site.

There are a couple of decent pubs in the village, and another a mile or so away and they offer decent home-cooked food and good lagers and ales. There is a cafe on-site offering all the usual, bacon butties, full English etc.

Overall this is a nice site, and with the new facilities there will be adeuate washrooms etc. There is a fair bit to do in the area and I would visit again if this way.

Just got back from the National Meet, and must advise that this site is on the whole good. I was assured by the owners that they appreciate the problems over the toilets, but are planning new toilets. My experience was the water in the showers was too hot! If you are a fisherman, then this is paradise, 3 pools to choose from. The site is pretty flat, close to a Co-op, and close to a pub.
Once paid for, the children can go in and out of the Farm area as often as they want to in the same day, which gives them access to the play area. The shop on site is not cheap, but does sell the basics. There is also a small cafe on site, but I did not use this so cannot comment. Will use this site again!

Excellent site with great facilities. Despite there only be two female toilets, as mentioned in previous reviews, I never had to queue at all during the time we spent here. The adjoining animal farm was great the kids really enjoyed it. No major gripes. In addition to the animal farm it was nice to walk around the lakes which are part of this campsite. Plenty of room for the children to play.

Not much more to say other than we would recommend this site and we will be returning in the near future.

Very pleasant site, flat and roomy pitches. Basic showers (lack of hot water though at various times of day) & loo facilities but no hot water for washing up which meant boiling a kettle all the time. Animal park was a bit of a gimmick as it was on the same site etc the kids thought they could go in all the time which would have a been expensive - would have been a nice gesture to give one free visit as I'm sure most families staying would have gone in again anyway. Food in cafe was lovely after the extremely long wait for it - did put others off and they left.

Follow site directions to the site as there is one way in which is very narrow. Downside was they charged extra for the trailer tent awning - we have a small trailer tent that needs at least a sun canopy etc to house kitchen so can't really be used alone.

Forresrty commission site very good, can recommend meal in cafe/restaurant! Very good kids meals too. Big Tesco in Burton and Dunelm opp. for blankets etc if needed - it was cold when we were there!
