Just been to Polstead CCC site. I agree with other reviews re: the road noise BUT it didn't bother us as we also go to a site nr the A30 & you get road noise from that too but I think it might bother some.
We were met by the wardens & shown 2 available pitches, one we didn't like as looked a bit cramped & the path to the toilet block ran right at the side of it.
The pitch we chose was of a good size for the car/caravan/awning & plenty of space to sit out. We got the sun all day long on this pitch. Although it's a family site there was a field set aside for families while we were there so it was quiet on the actual site.
There is one way in/out so don't arrive before 1 pm. There is a Morrison's at Hadleigh which has a cafe 4 miles down the road.
This road also is the main road to Ipswich, a bus runs every 2 hrs from outside the pub on the main road. We also used the P&R at Colchester which is only about 9 miles away, the castle & park is great.
Hubby did a couple of short walks from the site, maps are outside the toilet block. We also went to Long Melford, Sudbury & Levenham.
From there we moved up to Wyton Lakes, Cambridge, see my next review

I cycled here and stayed 2 nights.
After rejoining the CCC following cancelling for a year due to health reasons, it was great to be back on a club site. With these sites, you know to expect a certain standard, and Polstead is no exception; Very clean, comfortable and warm toilet/shower block, well laid out, neatly kept and plenty of space between tents.
The cost as a member was very reasonable so I was suggest joining up as I spoke to some others who were non members and they paid quite a bit more than me.
The site is fairly small, and is best served as a base for exploring surrounding towns and villages such as Hadleigh, Sudbury, Colchester and Lavenham. Being on a bike, I only visited Hadleigh, which is around 4 miles across nice country lanes. I'd say this is a fantastic site to use as a base for cycling in general.
Food wise there is a pub within a five minute walk, and plenty of other options nearby, especially if driving. I got an Indian takeaway delivered via Uber Eats, and again, there were a few options either on there or JustEat.
I joined the club several years ago originally to avoid 2am wake ups, and spoilt weekends courtesy of the more self centered campers, that I had one too many of by that point. I'm so glad I did.
Every stay on a CCC site has been excellent, and I do love to see clear expectations laid out. No noise after 11, dogs to be kept on leads and exercised regularly etc. Again, Polstead has all this covered.
Staff were friendly and welcoming but not overbearing, but the expectations both ways are clear. This is what I really value in a campsite.
All in all I had a great couple of nights here. Most people's down side to the site (road noise) is valid, but it doesn't bother me in the day time and at night I always wear ear plugs.
Just to give fair warning, there is constant, low-medium level road noise from an adjacent busy A road, so campers should factor this in. As I say, I didn't find it an issue but I realise it's subjective.

Very pretty well kept site and grounds.
Owners very friendly.
Toilet and shower block beautifully clean.
Dog walk through a gate on site which was really handy.
Only downside for us was what felt like constant background traffic noise.

Polstead CCC site is a small franchisee run site in rural Suffolk. Well tended with hedges dividing many pitches this is a delightful place to stay. Good facilities including well placed water taps.
It’s a small site and the access to pitches can be tight. As the guy who reversed into the water point by our caravan proved! A bit of care and good use of mirrors are useful!
The area is unspoiled and very pretty, Polstead, of Maria Marten fame, is a quintessentially quaint English village with chocolate box cottages and a gruesome history. We attended the annual makers and artists fair which was of a very high standard and had some beautiful items to buy or admire.
If you are a National Trust member there are properties and sites galore nearby. We visited, Melford Hall, Sutton Hoo, Lavenham Guildhall, Dunwich and Flatford Mill. All fascinating and with great walks and super cakes.
We also visited Orford Ness and Orford castle and the tucked away ruins of St James Chapel at Lindsay. We stumbled across Grayson Perry’s House for Essex at Wrabness, which isn’t open to the public but is a very interesting glimpse from the coast road there.
All in all it’s an excellent site with caring, positive and friendly owners in a good spot. Only downside is the road noise.

Not cheap (£27 pn) but a lovely clean, tidy site with very helpful staff. Lots of information available. Free wifi but it's weak and slow.
The buses are every two hours. Hadleigh and Sudbury only merit a short stay in our view. The takeaway delivered by the Royal Bengal was really good.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Very pleasant site - we had pretty dire weather but that's not their fault!
Greeted on arrival by owner/manager who bravely walked us down to our pitch in pouring rain. Only had a couple of minutes of interaction with her but seemed very nice. Be aware it's a 1pm earliest check in (but the pay-off is a generous midday departure). Good sturdy (almost) flat pitch on chunky gravel. Took pegs well enough with a bit of persuasion. Surrounding mud was a quagmire, totally understandable given the weather.
Toilet/shower block was faultless. Immaculately clean, well lit, good water, etc. Only waste water disposal was near the toilet block, a short walk from where we were on the bottom field - not the end of the world by any means, but a minor drag in the rain.
Simple assault-course style play area for kids. Was pretty muddy but again understandable given recent weather. I'm sure that it'd provide a decent bit of entertainment in better weather.
Plenty of local interest - on the Friday we went to the small but cute local market in Hadleigh, followed by a fun outing to the interesting Lavenham Hall (National Trust) about 20 mins away. NT again on the Saturday with a longer drive to Sutton Hoo, though sadly the walks were closed due to high winds.
Only real downer was traffic noise. Main road is only a few metres away from the bottom field, and we could definitely hear it (when we weren't getting battered by the wind). Did put a bit of a damper on the 'camping in the county' vibe. Probably wouldn't be such a problem in a caravan (we were in a FC).
Overall happy, will probably explore elsewhere rather than returning, but would have no qualms recommending to others.

A very very nice site all be quite small pitches.
I booked on morning of arival and spoke with a very friendly lady who is one of the wardens, I booked in and was shown my pitch which was a double one
Because I was traveling solo and over 60 the cost was very cheap. "well chuffed" I got set up and had a wonder around, all pitches are a bit smallish unless you get a double.
The site toilets showers and disabled toilets and washing up areas are immaculate and plenty of them. There is a very good play area for kids. There is a road next to site and road noise was quite minimal.
Would I go back YES I will be back.

We found this site very easily following the CCC instructions and while the main road is not that far away the noise was not a problem.
Very high hedges around the perimeter of the site and hedges between pitches provided protection from the wind and any road noise.
Lovely site and friendly wardens who were helpful on arrival. Toilet block was very good with u/floor heating and spacious shower cubicles.
Pubs in surrounding villages all serve high quality found and are pet friendly (sole exception was the closest) but not cheap.

A lovely site - perfect for relaxation. Very friendly welcome and given a choice of pitches - very attractively landscaped with shrubbery between spacious pitches giving a sense of privacy.
Excellent facilities. A very pleasant half hour walk through the woods takes you to Polstead village - very pretty with a large duck pond, village green with an oak tree, community shop and pub.
One tip - don't do what we did and drive to Polstead looking for the campsite - it's a couple of miles to the north down narrow country lanes and not signposted.
It's just off the A1071 and easily accessed from there.

The site is very good & so are the facilities, the only downside for me was the road noise, which I found to be very annoying at night time.
I plugged my ears with cotton wool & this certainly helped. Whilst there we did a lot of walking (its a very flat county) & visited many villages, local hostelries & churches, which I have to say are magnificent.
The pub just down the road is very popular, which is a good sign, but doesn't allow dogs, the meal we had there was very enjoyable.
Overall a pleasant stay but due to the road noise I wouldn't revisit
