Great reception from friendly staff which is always a great start!
The campsite is small and compact but very well planned and set out with lots of bushes and trees for privacy.
There are four different areas to choose from according to your requirements.
The toilet and shower block is fantastic with under floor heating which is fab in the colder months! Always very clean and never had to wait even though we visited in the Easter school holidays!
The only negatives I would say is firstly the noise - being located right next to the very busy A1071. The noise is constant and most noticeable in the evenings when the lorries thunder past at 10pm! I live near to a busy road myself so it was a little more home from home than I would have liked! Secondly the location isn't great - it was a short bike ride to The Cock pub but after an extremely unfriendly welcome - the landlord being bothered by our bikes and then by our well behaved 18mnth old - we decided not to either eat there or return so was then a little lost for alternatives! The nearest shops are Hadleigh (7 miles) for a small co op or you had to go further a field to Ipswich for anything larger.
We travelled to Colchester for a day trip to the Zoo (approx 40 mins in car)and also to Felixstowe for a beach day (again about 45 mins in the car) so nothing that close by.
In short lovely site but not in a great spot!

Carlsberg don't do Camp sites, but if they did, Polstead would be it.
The site as a whole is incredibly clean, tidy, well kept and maintained.
The Toilet and Shower Block, Pot Wash and Chemical Disposal Point are probably the best on any camp site I've stayed on yet.
The WiFi coverage was good and free, all that is asked for use of the WiFi is a contribution to the flower fund. That flower fund is certainly put to good use.
Pitches are of a good size and the 'trim trail' kept my children entertained for 4 days.
From the moment we arrived, Greg and Karen couldn't have done enough for us and even put on an Easter Quiz and Easter Egg Colouring competition for the children.
An excellent site that is very well managed and run.

What a gem. On arrival at the site, the owner came out to greet me unprompted. The welcome was very warm; I was shown a selection of different pitches and invited to choose one which best suited me. The location of all the facilities was clearly explained to me and I was offered a morning newspaper.
On site, I was near to the facilities block so the loo, shower, CDP and waste water were only a few yards away. The standard of the showers and toilets was outstanding, more in line with what you would experience in a hotel rather than a campsite.
Noise was at a minimum - it's not the sort of site that attracts 'revellers', some road noise was present from the nearby A1071 although this was not obtrusive. A cockrel crowing woke me up on the Sunday morning and reminded me I was in the countryside!
The surrounding area has some stunning views and plenty of places to walk and cycle.
All in all, this is a superb site in a picturesque part of the country. The C&CC should be doubly proud of the site and its hosts, it will be my pleasure to return at a future date.

If I were o run a site, then this is type of site it would be! Absolutely perfect is all I can say, extremely clean and tidy, well laid out and the toilet block, WOW! It's the most modern, cleanest block I have ever seen on a camp site, underfloor heating, free showers, plenty of sinks, just brilliant.
Check in was fast and friendly, we chose to join the caravan and camping club at the same time as we like their sites. The pitches are mostly separated by nice hedging thereby giving privacy and seclusion to each unit, there are also two open areas for tents etc.
Plenty of water taps and good facilities for waste disposal.
There is a local pub within 10 minutes stroll which serves excellent beer and food at good prices, nearby sudbury is a bustling but picturesque town and the tiny village of Kersey is straight off the front of a chocolate box!
For peace and quiet, this is the place, we Wollongong be returning.

We spent 3 nights at Polstead over the August Bank Holiday and agree with all the other posts which mention just how good the facilities are.
The showers are definitely excellent and Karen and Greg couldn't do enough to make us welcome. The dog walking in the area is excellent.
The noise from the local traffic is certainly louder than we would like, but if we were in a caravan rather than a trailer tent it would probably not be as noisy.
It only took an hour to get back home - so we think this will be a regular site for us.

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at this site. Made very welcome by Karen & Greg who were able to meet our requirements for a non service pitch.
Toilet and shower facilities, as mentioned by others, were of the highest order and only matched, on our travels, by the C&C club site at Hereford.
Motorcyclists beware that the roads on site are of thick gravel which can be tricky to ride on.
Whilst there we visited Flatford Mill, Walton on the Naze and Long Melford via Lavenham. All Recommended.
Both the nearby pubs are worth a visit, Though the Cock at Polstead is nearly a 2 mile walk back along unlit country roads if you walk there in the evening. Make sure you have a good torch!
The bus to Hadleigh runs once an hour 7am-6pm ish and is well worth a visit. You will need to pre book a cab to bring you back in the evening if you want to have a drink. Recommended is the seafood in the Kings Head pub. Hadleigh also has an Indian and Chinese restaurants.
Would recommend this site without hesitation and would have liked to have stayed longer.

Took my five year old son here for his first camping trip. What a fantastic place to start. The toilets and showers were amazingly clean and we never had to wait.
The place was not too big, well run and in a good location in walking distance to a pub that serves good food.
In all a well run, tidy site. Finding the site would have been easier if id come in on the A roads via junction 31 off the A12 than trying to go through the small country roads.
Great weekend, my son didn't want to come home which is always a good sign.

A very attractive site and one which we would definitely visit again.
Positive points
1. Camp site owners both very friendly and helpful.
2. On arrival was able to order papers for next day (Saturday). There is an arrangement for Sunday which seems to involve someone going around the site in the morning in a car selling newspapers.
3. There is a bus stop on the main road, very short walk from the camp site which runs to Sudbury and Ipswich. There are many 'vias' along the way - we spent a lovely late morning and afternoon in Hadleigh which is a charming small town some 4 miles away.
4. There is a pub opposite the camp site which does good, inexpensive pub grub. Carvery, fish and chips, burgers, lasagne, steak etc all on the menu and all ok. (Apparently the other pub in Polstead is better foodwise but cannot comment as we didn't go)
5. Showers, toilets were very good. Showers very roomy and good supply of hot water. I've always been an early bird typically showering about 7 am and did find that was a popular time - luckily didn't queue but saw many that did. Everything was spotless and this was consistent through the day
Negative points
1. - this isn't huge but you can really hear the road from where we were (by the kids play area). No problem at night when it quietened down a bit (and we slept well after day out and evening bottle of wine) but definitely doesn't come under the peaceful in the country category! no answer to this I'm afraid but if noise bothers you - ask for a pitch further inside nearer the toilet / reception area.

We had a lovely little break at this immaculate campsite, run by extremely hard-working, informative and friendly managers. I would say that there were a lot more motorhomes and caravans than tents, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. But tents had their own separate field so you weren't surrounded by white plastic!
This site has the best loos and showers I've ever experienced on a campsite: modern, warm, spotlessly clean and plenty of room in the cubicles. Unlike a previous reviewer, I greatly appreciated the 'no ball games' rule.
The local area is lovely for walking, with quiet country lanes and pretty woodland. There is a pub very close by and a slightly more charming one about a mile away. Nearby Hadleigh features a great butchers, deli, farm shop and Adnams shop.
The only downside to this site is its proximity to quite a busy road, which means it can be a little noisy when the wind blows the wrong way. The traffic noise does calm down in the evening though.
We would definitely return to this site for a short walking break.

We stayed at this wonderful site the long weekend of the royal wedding in our fairly recently purchased motorhome, along with our 2 dogs. We arrived on Thursday (having only phoned to book on Wednesday) to a lovely friendly welcome. We were given a choice of pitches so we could choose which was most appropriate to our needs.
We made use of the local walk leaflets for sale in reception for 10p and went off for a lovely walk through the woods to the Cock Inn in Polstead, they welcomed our dogs in the bar so did not have to sit outside on our own! We ordered newspapers at the site and these were ready for collection first thing in the morning.
On the day of the wedding we set off for a longer walk courtesy of another walk leaflet - these are well worth looking at as they were plenty to choose from. We went towards Hadleigh, a lovely small town around 4 miles by road. We ended up at the Kings Head who had a wedding party/beer festival/live bands etc so had a great afternoon there. When we eventually arrived back at the site we were welcomed back and asked if we had had a good day. The owners are wonderful, very friendly and welcoming.
The toilet/shower block is the best I have ever used, and a notice was put outside with information about events going on over the weekend around the area. The shop had a nice small range of goods for sale - anything you might need whilst you are there without having to drive to the shops.
The Brewers Arms which is round the corner was also very welcoming to us and the dogs, bringing us a bowl of water for the dogs without us asking. On Saturday nights, pre-ordered fish and chips are delivered to your van/tent, and on Sunday mornings newspapers are delivered to your van/tent, which is a nice touch. All in all this site is brill, and we will definitely be staying again.
