My wife and myself have just returned from 3 nights at this wonderful site, On our arrival we were made to feel very welcome, given a choise of pitch and Greg even guided us as we reversed in to make sure it all went smoothly. We were offered a hard standing pitch even though we had booked a grass pitch which was a nice touch, as we were there between the bank holidays I think there was still some available.
The whole site was very well kept, clean and tidy. The shower and toilet block are the best we have ever encountered, very new and absolutely spotless,
The local shops are not too far away in Hadleigh, or Sudbury, and there is a small on site shop for basics, a pub is also just 250 yards away although I can't tell you what it was like as we didn't use it.
There are some chickens on site which roam around and are tame enough to be hand fed, and the cockeral 'Lewis' is very amusing to watch!
We can recommend this site and will be going back very soon!

This was our third stay here at Polstead. Still a lovely site, but regrettably a few gripes.
So many people on here have mentioned that the water is too hot in the showers, it now seems note has been made of this, and I found the showers on this trip a little on the luke warm side. Lets face it, its the UK here, and its not always a heatwave ! So its nice to wake up to a hot shower, rather than a luke warm one !
The only real answer to this is to have variable controls on the showers, to suit everyones' taste.
Also, lots of ' not allowed ' ball games in play. This is not policed at all.

My wife and I have just returned from spending three nights at this campsite. It must be one of the best we have visited. The toilet and shower blocks were immaculate and the grounds and pitches were very well tended.
Karen met us as soon as we arrived and booked us in immediately, giving us a choice of pitches. Greg showed us to the pitch and offered assistance if we needed it. There was a very relaxed atmosphere on the site and everyone was very friendly.
The site offers a very safe play area for small children, although there weren't any children on site at the time of visiting, possibly because it was so early in the year.
Polstead is well placed for visiting Hadleigh (a delightful small town), Lavenham and Sudbury, with Colchester just half an hour's drive away. We will certainly go back to this site.

We have just returned from this site.
First thing I would say and most important is 'it's not very good for kids', the pebble roads make it very hard for them to cycle. There is a small wooden play area in the middle of the field which would keep children amused for 10 minutes but that's it. Our boys love camping and love kicking their football around. On this site they were twice told their ball would be confiscated if it came anywhere near the older peoples caravans. Well I am sorry but this is not an adult only site, so the Victor Meldrews should chill out!
There are positives about this site. The toilets/ showers are without doubt the best we have ever been to. They were immaculate. The staff were friendly enough when you could find them.
The shop doesn't sell alcohol so a walk up to the pub for your wine is necessary, but you still have to cross the noisy busy road which runs directly next to the site (ooops sorry we are on the positives arnt we) Overall we were glad we only stayed one night here. We were just getting away for an evening to test our new van.
Owner's comments: Unfortunately, non members can sometimes find the policies on club sites a little restrictive, but they are in place to make sure campers feel safe and comfortable while on site. It is clear to all members that there are no ball games on any of the camping fields, and as this is clearly stated in our site leaflet and because of this we get many happy campers both families and others who return. We are a small site and still sell a wide range of camping and food items but do not sell alcohol, especially as there is a pub within 250 yards of the site!

When I stayed here before it was a lovely quiet site which was being built up. Now it has been built up with really noisy shingle paths ( a nightmare with the site traffic) a playground which for some reason, even though I am in my sixties, I was sited right next to as all the people with children had very sensibly been sited in the next field! So, a gang of between 6 and 15 young people, with foul language, throwing stones at each other and shouting was order of the day. Admittedly when I spoke to the manager somebody came and told them, they were quiet for about 10 minutes. Otherwise it is probably a good site. The staff were excellent and I wish them every success.

A good site with very friendly and helpful wardens.
I was there for a rally and we were in an area near the back of the site accessed by a shingle road with EHU and grass pitches. The wardens lent me an extension cable and made sure I was pitched on as dry and flat a spot as possible - this proved to be vital because we had three nights of heavy rain and by the time I left on Monday, in more rain, things were pretty waterlogged and the gripmaps did their job!
The area we were in had a fresh and waste water point and a small play area for children. There was some traffic noise which was only really noticeable early on the Monday morning.
The field next to us, for tents, was closed all weekend due to the weather and the path through it to reach the main part of the site (including the toilet block and reception) got pretty muddy. It was safer to take the longer shingle road. Despite the weather the site was busy, with the main area being full.
3G reception (O2) was poor to start with but got better as the weekend progressed (not sure why.The van never moved). It was fine in reception, which also contains a small shop.
The gents toilet block/shower block had 3 (if memory serves me well) showers, a washroom and plenty of toilets. It was nice and warm. Next to it is a covered washing-up area and laundry room.
Fish (or in my case, scampi) and chips were delivered to our field and were delicious.
Due to the weather and the rally, I only left the site on the Saturday and visited Colchester, which has a nice big park and interesting castle with museum. Plenty of shops too.
Having left Monday morning I spent a couple of hours at Lavernham, visiting the guildhall (National Trust) and getting even more soaked by the rain!
Recommended. And hopefully next time I visit to explore more of the surrounding area, it will be a lot drier.

Simply the best site we've used in the Uk ! Very Pleasant greeting at reception & help parking 'van. Great pitch layout, all marked pitches with clear boundary.
Modern and spotless Shower/toilet block. Very good general location in a beautiful area very close to 'Counstable Country'. Other reviews note traffic noise while there is some noise we did not find it a problem and hardly noticed.
Plenty of Pubs close by. Great Fish & Chips in Hadleigh (about 8 mis drive). Would recommend this site to anyone.

We stayed here in July 2010. The main reason for our stay, was having read the reviews, we thought we must try it. Karen and Greg welcomed us, we were late to book, but they managed to fit us in, on the lower field, no hard standing here, but we had electric. Plus it is further away from the road, if road noise is a problem for you. The site is clean and tidy and the toilet block was fabulous with lots of hot water. The bottom field has a trafficless tarmac'ed dog walk. We are dog owners, so note the pub opposite is not dog friendly and the beer garden is noisy ! The pub in Polstead Village ( The Cock Inn ) is dog friendly ( bar area ) and the food comes recommended, the beef pie was truly homemade and wonderful. We are going back in Oct 2010 for a short weekend break, and to try out the Sunday lunch!

Just arrived back after 7 nights at Polstead. The big downside for us was the road noise, from 6am to the early hours. It should be mentioned in the C&C Club 'Your place in the country' publication. It was so bad I phoned head office and was offered compensation for this.
The central part of the site doesn't suffer road noise, but as this part is all hard standings then its no good if you have a tent. The tent pitches are close to the road (A1071)
We had booked a pitch with EHU and found that the field we were pitched in didn't have any so we had to connect to an extension cable which was hung on a tree on the dog walk.
The amenities block is new and spotlessly clean.
We didn't see much of the site owners and the small shop opens at odd times.
You can get Fish and chips delivered to your unit on Saturday night. £5.50 each.
There is a pub quite near which serves meals. The village of Hadleigh is about 5 minutes drive away and has a good selection of shops. Ipswich is about 15 minutes drive away where you will find all the big supermarkets and shops. The surrounding area is beautiful.
Even though the site is lovely and the surrounding area, we won't be returning due to the road noise that spoilt our holiday.
Owners Comments: Although we are sorry the customer felt their holiday had been disturbed by the noise from the road it might have helped to inform the site owners who would have offered them a pitch further away. It was a particularly breezy and wet week meaning the noise from the road was more prominent. Interestingly, the couple who tented on the pitch following their departure booked in for two nights and stayed for nine! The shop opening hours are clearly stated in the site leaflet and morning and late afternoon seem to be the most appropriate times for our customers - bearing in mind we have to spend the rest of the day meeting campers and maintaining the park.

Our second stay at this site and once again the warm welcome we received from Greg and Karen was really great.
The transformation of the shower block is superb! With spotless shower, washing and toilet facilities, complete with underfloor heating, you would be hard pressed to find better.
The family of Bantams etc around the site are a great addition, really entertaining.
There are plenty of places to visit while staying here, Lavenham, Long Melford, and Hadleigh are all worth a visit. As are Sudbury Ipswich and Colchester, all within easy reach for a day out.
The pub in Polstead village is well worth a visit for a great lunch or evening meal, wonderful food.
Don't forget to order your fish & Chips at the site office on a Saturday, and have them delivered to your tent or caravan.
