Nice quiet site not too large. Owner was helpful and friendly. On arrival your allocated pitch is shown on a white board, so no checking in required. Hard standing pitches aren't huge, but plenty of room for our motorhome and awning.
Nice and clean shower/toilet block and washing up area. Nice walks for the dog and pretty fishing lake at the bottom of the hill.
We only stayed one night as a stopover so didn't venture into the village or visit any local pubs, but would like to return again and walk into the neighbouring villages.
Not very far from Newbury town centre if you wanted to drive in to do shopping etc. Cost was £18 which is a few pounds cheaper than most other similar sites.

Nice campsite well positioned for lots of different attractions. Lots of walks from and close to the site. Bus stop just down the road.
Site was full the weekend we were there on both the main and rally/tent field. Yet it wasn't at all noisy. In the evening there were several groups sat around together, yet even then there was no excessive noise. By 11pm it was silent. Several permanently sited vans, but all clean tidy and well cared for. Owner extremely friendly and approachable. He was out around the site frequently.
The pitches are not huge, by the time a caravan was pitched with an awning, or even a large tent, there wasn't a lot of room for a vehicle as well. The ground is very hard, you will need rock pegs. We had a heavy rain shower whilst there and the ground drained well. Grass was cut short and the pitches are mostly flat. The site is pretty open and there is very little shade from the sun. No dedicated children's play area, but the kids still seemed to keep themselves amused, without ending up running through peoples pitches and slamming balls into units, etc. Site fees a little higher than expected at just over £18 a night.
The road beside site can be noisy, especially when the boy racers in the estate opposite are screeching in and out in their cars and on motor bikes. Also got a bit of music from time to time floating across from that area. If you think you could be disturbed by the noise, then I would advise asking for a pitch away from the road. It didn't bother us as it wasn't a constant noise.
Facilities were good. Large private wet rooms, with plenty of hanging areas, trays for toiletries and a seat. Showers are on a 15 min timer, which is more than enough time. Never saw any queues, even with a full site. 3 showers in ladies and 2 in mens. Each area also had a sink in one of the toilets to allow for a private wash. Mops to clean up available, which I think helped to keep the shower areas tidy. There are 2 free electric sockets in ladies for hair dryer, straightness, etc.
There is a shop 2 mins walk across the road with good supplies. Sainsbury's and Tesco are just 10 mins up the road in Newbury.
2 washing up sinks. Hot water did run our one night, but I think this was just due to the volume of washing up being done. There is a washing machine and dryer. As well as a freezer for ice packs in the laundry room. Paper, plastic & cans can be recycled. Mobile signal (Vodafone) was very good.
All in all a pleasant little site that is well worth a visit.

Tidy site a few miles south of Newbury. Well kept, with what looked like newly refurbished toilet/shower block, which was very clean and tidy. Timed showers (15 mins) ample.
Peaceful spot in small village, which has a small shop (not visited). We walked to the next village south, Ecchinswell, which is about 2 miles, for a good pub lunch at the Royal Oak with big garden.
Will happily return.

Just returned from this lovely site after spending 3 nights over the Easter weekend. Can't fault the facilities, toilet/showers really clean and included in the price. Very peaceful and although it was busy due to being Easter weekend it was still very quiet. As other reviews have said Tesco and other shops a couple of miles away and we found a lovely pub in the village of Ecchinswell which is about 2 miles further along the lane. Newbury is about 5 minutes away by car.
We stayed here as we have family living locally and will definitely be returning again.

The campsite had a friendly family feel, but was still quite nice and quiet, even though I was there for bank holiday weekend!
The camping field was spacious, not too muddy, with a nice view. On a bit of a slope and slightly stony though! The toilet block was very well-equipped, with good showers, hot water, and clean. There was also a washer/dryer available, two washing up sinks, and recycling bins.
It was easy to find, just off the main road from Newbury so all the facilities are there if you need them. There's also a shop in the village (less than 5 minutes' walk from the campsite) which is open 8-8 every day - very handy! The countryside round and about is gorgeous too.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this site and hope to be back there soon!

Beautiful, relaxing, QUIET!, clean, friendly.
What more can I say?!
My other half and I stumbled across this little piece of heaven quite by accident, and boy are we glad we did!
We rocked up with all of our worldly (camping) goods stuffed in the back of the Landy and were met by a rather charming chap in a flat cap who showed us our pitch and then lent us an extension for our EHU! (we hadn't realised how short ours was!) After pitching our tent we then had a wee explore of the site. 1 minute walking and we were at the ablutions block which provided an outdoor but covered dish-washing, sink area and bins, separate mens and womens toilets and showers. I must say I was amazed at the standard of the toilet/shower blocks-VERY clean, hand soaps/toilet paper provided and also a mop/bucket with a small sign asking users to please leave it how they found it.
The site is divided into two areas, one is bordered by mature trees and the other is an open field which looks out onto glorious farm land. We stayed in the open field and had a fab time. There is also a fishing lake on site which seems very popular with the locals but this was further away down a track. The location is perfect for those wishing to have a bit of quiet time and seemed more rural than it actually was. We needed a few supplies and decided to drive into town (approx 5 mins away) there we found a shopping center with retailers such as: Sports Direct, Poundland, Tescos, Sainsburys, Next, Matalan and of course Mcdonalds and Pizzahut-big bonus-FREE CARPARKING!
We felt safe and secure the whole of our stay with the owner often around tending to his daily chores and chatting to the other campers.
Unlike other campsites we have stayed in we found this one a blessed relief as not having children ourselves we often find it somewhat annoying to have to put up with the lack of privacy and flying footballs which always inadvertently end up smacking against your tent in the other more 'commercialised' campsites. The few children there were on site were amazingly well behaved and polite.
This is not a huge campsite, 3 showers & 3 toilets in the womens block and neither is it 'Party Central' but a lovely home away from home with all the peace and quiet, fresh air and birdsong anyone could possibly want-absolutely perfect for us! Our many, many thanks to the owner for making our stay so enjoyable-he definitely restored our faith in humanity!
And a big YES we will be returning!

Lovely, basic, well cared for campsite.
Nick was very friendly and helpful. He phoned us in the morning to warn us of some road works which might effect our journey. On arrival he was very welcoming.
Lovely fishing lake at the bottom of the site, which was nice to take a stroll around. Very peaceful and relaxing for our over night stay.
Toilet/shower block was clean and well looked after.
Handy corner shop 5 minute walk away.
We would stay here again.

We selected this site for it's proximity to Newbury (which we wanted to explore). It seems a lot of people use it as base for race day.
There was a genial welcome from the proprietor as he showed us where to pitch. We had friends with a tent with us and were able to pitch together which was great.
The toilet block is modern and spotless. We were pitched adjacent to the road. It was generally quiet but we did feel as if the pitches on the opposite side may have been a bit quieter still. Not too much light at night, which is also a plus point. We find some sites go a bit overboard on lighting!
Newbury is close by and all services can be found there. The Swan is the nearest pub.
We had great weather, which always makes things better! We would definitely return to this pleasant site.

We found this campsite via the UKCampsite.co.uk because we were going to visit Highclere castle.
The owner Mr Smith is very nice and helpful. When we stayed there were only about six caravans / tents staying at any one time. The facilities are very good with spacious showers and toilets. They were clean and the ladies had flowers placed in them. Very nice when you open the door and have fresh flowers and scent.
There was a washing machine and dryer but we didn't use them. The site is of good size and there were plenty of spaces. There is also a good size lake if you wish to fish.
However, we just went down to have a look, but there were people there every day. There is no shop on site, but a well stocked village shop just around the corner. The price was £16. 00 per night with electric hook up and awning. The estate nearby was quiet when we visited. We would visit this site again.
We visited the Swan Inn for one meal. If you go up to the big roundabout then turn left and head towards Newbury, then turn left at sign for Highclere. Good meal, but a bit overpriced. We also visited the Star Inn for another meal. Again go up to the big roundabout and turn right towards Basingstoke. Much better meal and good price.
Highclere castle was lovely to visit and the day we went it was a dry day.
If you head towards Newbury there is a good out of town centre with a good selection of shops, Tescos, M&S Food, Boots, New Look, Next, Sports, Mothercare. Good for when it was raining.
A bit further into Newbury you could visit the Wharf. You can park here quite easily. There is a lovely walk along the canal and also a very good sized park. The following day when we drove past it had lots of families enjoying it. There was a good tea room on the front. With proper teapot, tea leaves and china cups. Good treat.
Whilst having a few days at Newbury we visited Goring. What a beautiful place to visit. Lovely little village. The weir and locks are lovely. We had lunch at the Swan Hotel and sat outside on the patio. The staff were very welcoming, the food was good and well priced.

Good points: Well drained field. Flat pitches. Peaceful fishing lake (we looked, but didn't fish). Modern and well maintained facilities. Electric point in ladies shower/toilet block (very handy for plugging in hair dryer/straighteners, etc. If you don't have an electric pitch). Reasonably priced pitches.
Bad points: Backs onto housing estate which can be noisy at times, especially during early morning when traffic noise starts up and nights if a house party is taking place.
Shower block not heated (not a problem during summer months I would imagine, but bit chilly during spring and autumn).
Pitches not clearly marked (and you may be asked to move your tent if you don't pitch correctly).
Not a particularly child friendly site. I think this site would be best suited to adults only and actually think the owner should make this a rule as he really isn't very tolerant to them! (Even well behaved ones!). Our children were quieter than the rest on the site (some teens running around behind the tents in the dark up until almost midnight), in bed by 9 pm and not out of the tent in the morning until at least 9 am, with us off site most of the day, but still didn't go down to well lol.
Would I return? Yes, if I didn't have children with me :)
