Found this campsite via this site as myself and daughter were visiting friends in Newbury for 1 night. Great little site with friendly owner. Well mown, fenced and hedged field, with nice walk to fishing lake nearby. Welcomed our two small dogs. Toilet block small but 5* clean and well appointed. Fish and chip van calls by twice per week and was due 1/2 hour after our arrival on a Friday evening, unfortunately we had eaten on route but it smelt delicious. Next time! There certainly will be a next time we were well impressed.

We arrived to a very friendly greeting and were greatly assisted in siting our caravan by a very nice owner. He is a great guy who cannot do enough to help you. The site was quiet but very nice with spotless toilets etc. No matter what time of day you went to them. The nearest shop apart from the village shop (which only sells the barest of items) is Tesco which is easily accessible by car, (approx 10 minutes). We travelled over 200 miles to go and see friends nearby and the site made every mile worthwhile. We shall be there again next year, God willing.

I can only agree wholeheartedly with most of the other reviews. The site is quiet, well run and friendly. The toilets are, as they say, small but perfectly formed and spotless. Hot water is, well, hot and free into the bargain. Mein host also thoughtfully provides a small freezer outside the door of the reception hut, where ice packs can be chilled, again for free. When we visited a the end of May '07, the tents were in a field which was half mown, half meadow. We managed to pitch on the edge and decided to set up facing out, over the meadow. Unfortunately it was a typical bank holiday and the weather degenerated from a pleasant day on Friday to continuous rain and cold from Saturday evening through all of Sunday and Monday. Despite this the site remained relatively firm, only getting churned up a bit at the entrance. Yes, we'll definitely be going again!

Have just returned from a long bank holiday weekend at this site, based primarily on previous reviews. The site itself is a couple of fields with a toilet / shower block. It is a no frills site and I have to say that is its attraction. We were situated quite close to a road and there was a little amount of road noise, but hey we have been in a lot noisier places. Being a bank holiday weekend the site was, I suspect quite full, but there is enough space that it did not feel cramped. At £10 per night very well priced. If I have any criticism of the site - it really could do with a couple more toilets / showers. That said, despite those provided being 'quaint' they were absolutely spotless. We did not see much of the owner, but when we did greeted with a smile and a hello - despite being blamed for the appalling weather bank holiday Monday. On our day of departure and on hooking up - no electrics to the caravan. We soon had assistance from the owners son (i believe), and with his help and expertise he diagnosed a blown fuse which I did not even know I had and we were soon on our way. All in all a nice quiet secluded Gem of a site which is now most definitely on our list of would go again.

Have just arrived home after spending 2 nights here and felt that I just had to record our impressions of the site. The owner was at hand when we arrived late evening and joy of joys ,the chippie van was still there. Owner was very friendly /chatty and helped us site the 'van. Plenty of places to walk the dog -straight from the site . Toilets were kept very clean. Good to see an effort to recycle. True, a no frills site but a very nice change from the more commercialised venues. Definitely on our favorites list.

We picked a very wet and very windy day to set up camp here. The owner was very helpful in letting us chose a pitch that was a bit more secluded and sheltered. He was very chatty and interested in where we had come from etc. He then left us to it but came back the next day to see if we were ok! The site is basic, no frills stuff, but with clean toilets kept well stocked with paper (the expensive soft stuff too) clean showers and a couple of washing basins. Plenty of taps and EHU's. One smaller field for Vans and a larger field for Tents who dont need the EHU. Very relaxing and very pleasant - I would certainly consider a return.

A first class site which I would recommend to anyone who wanted a peaceful camping trip. Very helpful owner and a spotlessly clean site. We took our son to Legoland and this was an ideal base. Nice flat area with plenty of electric hookups at an excellent camping fee. I would certainly make another visit.

We looked at the reviews on this website to help us choose a campsite for our first camping trip. We had a lovely couple of nights here, we agree with the other reviews it was a very laid back site and the owner was very friendly. It was great having the chip van come to the site on the Friday night. There are a lot of regulars there who were really friendly and helpful. The toilet / showers were very clean. Lots of space for children to play. Fishing lake close by.

Great little country site, one that gets the balance right between costs, facilities and welcome. The complete lack of large signs with spurious 'don't-do-this' rules on them helped make this extra relaxing. It is good to find free hot water and spotless toilets etc on a small site. Will go back.

Just had 2 weeks on this site. Highly recommended for those wanting a quiet country site. Large grassed field with caravans/motor homes around the edge and tents in the middle. Approx 25 pitches. Really relaxed, friendly atmosphere, exceptionally friendly and helpful owner. Immaculate small shower block. Very efficient washer and dryer. Secure site with access gate covered by number pad. Popular fishing lake at the bottom of adjacent field. During the week the site is very quiet, people coming and going, busier at weekends, but never seemed too busy. Chip van comes onto site on Tuesday and Fridays, cooking to order. Can recommend these!
Newbury is a lovely old small town with Canal side walks. This is five minutes drive from the site, but traffic can be very busy. Basingstoke is about half an hour drive. Has large new indoor shopping mall for rainy days. Also has a leisure complex on Newbury side of the town which includes ice skating, swimming pool with slides etc, restaurants. Next door to this is the Milestones Museum, Victorian Streets/Shops etc, well worth a visit.
We are definitely going to make regular visits to this site.
