This is a wonderful gem of a site - we visited for two days in August 2015 and had a wonderful stay - made even better by the facilities including BATHS! The staff are lovely, helpful, friendly and really interested in who you are and how they can make your stay special. The donkeys are a natural morning wake up and the walks from the site are so beautiful. Located close to Hadrian's Wall and the castles close to Haltwhistle you are spoilt for choice for days out. Vindolanda and Housesteads are close by and well worthy of a visit. There is an easy walk to a pub and all in all, if you love the outdoors and want an active holiday steeped in history, this is a sure winner.

What a fantastic campsite! All four wardens were so helpful and friendly, giving us maps and suggested walks. The campsite is perfectly placed to walk to Hadrian's Wall and Haltwhistle.
We spent four days here and everything from the camp shop to the amenities block to the washing up area is so well thought out and immaculately clean. We stayed in an electrical hook-up tent space, but we would love to come back and stay in one of the glamping Wigwams! We would definitely return to this campsite and we have already recommended it to three more people today.

Lovely site. Our children 2 and 4 really enjoyed the play area and the animals. Every evening the site wardens let the children watch them feed the animals, which ours enjoyed. The families were amazingly clean even on bank holiday weekend. The family bath rooms were great too as we could properly wash the children.
This site is at the top of a hill tough so quite windy. It's a great base for visiting hardrians wall. And we had a lovely time.

This site claims to be, A-La-Carlsberg, 'probably the best site in Northumberland'. Well maybe so, but also possibly the most expensive! What you do get for your pennies is friendly staff and an immaculately groomed site with spotless facilities in an excellent location for Hadrian's wall and the National Park. Pitches are level, well spaced and hard-standing, also the site sits in a shallow depression and so is a bit sheltered from really bad weather. I would also think it would be excellent for families, (if they could afford it), with a mini Roman Fort and animal enclosures etc. The Milecastle Inn, a 15 min walk away, has a nice atmosphere and food but the Black Bull in Haltwhistle (steep road) is a little diamond with a bustling proper-pub feel and brilliant home-cooked food (before 8 pm?). There are many extra facilities available on site (e. G. Wi-Fi), but some incur additional payment.

Wow! What a find. This more than a camp site, this is more like a five star open air hotel.
We only stayed one night on our way home from Scotland, but we will definitely be back. Right from the off with a very warm and jovial welcome, to a very spacious pitch and well, the facilities are beyond belief.
OK so the site has only been open a couple of years, but everything is still as new and immaculately well cared for. The showers were great and very powerful, with plenty of space, we liked the idea of being able to have use of a family bathroom, although we didn't take this up on this trip. The sauna is also a very different touch.
The views are spectacular and we were fortunate enough to get a fantastic sunset over the Tipis.
If you are planning a stop off travelling east or west along the A69, you need to take some time to stay at Herding Hill Farm, you won't regret it!

Just returned from a lovely visit to Herding Hill Farm. We were in a tent with no electric hook up and pitched in the bottom field. There was a slight slope to most of the field but it wasn't very noticeable once in the tent. We were given a really warm welcome with lots of information.
The amenities are fantastic, the best we have been to this year. The toilet blocks were clean and very modern. The showers were really hot and music was playing in the block. The play park was well kept with lots for little ones to do. The animals were a big hit and a lovely feature.
You can buy fresh eggs from a trust box at the entrance for 20p an egg, and the takeaway pizzas were very nice. It's a short walk to Haltwhistle where there are lots of little shops to browse and top up supply's.
We are already decided we will return next year, the views from the site were fantastic.

Just come back from a two night stay on this site with a friend who hadn't camped for a couple of decades. Due to a slight booking muddle we were allocated an EHU pitch on the overflow field behind the warden's caravan and it was lovely, very quiet and with views out over the back of the site. It was also more sheltered than the main site, I've stayed here before on the main field and it is quite exposed when the wind gets up. We were happy in our four man family tent in the sheltered bit, most of our neighbours were arriving on bikes or foot with tiny tents but it was a very friendly area.
There's a tap round at that area but no loos, I think allowing the use of even just a loo and sink in the back bunkhouse would be helpful, it's a few minutes walk down to the toilet block. Also you can't leave your car next to your tent, you have to unload and then park your car in the main car park. It's only 30 seconds away though and there's no traffic noise.
Excellent toilets, lots of hot water, good strong showers, very clean and well maintained. I've never had to queue for a shower even at the weekend.
The pizzas are good and it's nice to get them delivered rather than have to hang around waiting.
My only genuine dislike of the place is that the non electric tent area is on a very sloping field, I've not pitched there and I don't want to either, I'd rather pay the extra for a flat EHU pitch even if I didn't need hook-up! I don't know how they could do anything about it though, it's not the sort of field you could terrace for example. The animal section and play park occupy a large chunk of the flat main area, this doesn't seem ;logical to me.
Excellent campsite though, nice mix of vans, tents, wigwams, walkers and hikers and bigger units. Very strict curfew too, it was absolutely silent by 11pm and even at 7am there were only a couple of campers tiptoeing around. It's a well run, clean campsite with a good atmosphere. I'll go back.
PS: Take rock pegs!

Just returned from a wonderful week spent at Herding Hill Farm. This is an excellent site that would suit any caravanner whether young or old. The welcome on arrival was friendly and helpful. Checking in was easy. The site itself was well maintained and pleasant. Hard-standing pitches are large. Toilet blocks are modern and were always clean. Showers were warm and powerful! We didn't have young children but this is a lovely site for families with a super playground, petting pen with small animals and donkeys and alpacas just across the dog walk area. Also sheep in the field behind our van. On-site shop is well stocked with essentials and souvenirs plus home-made pizzas on weekends. The area is ruggedly scenic and Haltwhistle itself is a pretty village with all you'd want it to have e. G. Sainsbury's and a chip shop. About a 10 minute walk from the campsite is the Milecastle Inn a quaint, welcoming pub that provides bar meals at fairly reasonable prices. A superb central location for visiting Hadrian's Wall and the various museums and forts that the area has to offer. Wi-fi is available on site and mobile phone signal is good.

This was our first time camping as a family and we feel we picked a great site (despite the rain) Set in a beautiful location just outside the small town of Haltwistle with Hadrian's Wall and Kielder water nearby. The amenities block was superb, very clean with lovely hot showers. The children enjoyed having a run around on the playpark and feeding the animals. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and the on site pizza service saved me a nights cooking/pot washing. We would definitely come again.

Really disappointed with this site. Our pitch was on a slope which was inconvenience enough however during a downpour the water from the top of the site was channeled down the back of our pitch. No warning but fortunately I spotted this as the rain started whilst we put the tent up. Our neighbours weren't so lucky as the water streamed through their stepping area. Felt somewhat cheated giving that we paid the same in the overflow field as those with the well drained flat pitches at the top of the site. Couldn't fault the washroom mind. Won't be returning however.
