This was our first time camping as a family and we feel we picked a great site (despite the rain) Set in a beautiful location just outside the small town of Haltwistle with Hadrian's Wall and Kielder water nearby. The amenities block was superb, very clean with lovely hot showers. The children enjoyed having a run around on the playpark and feeding the animals. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and the on site pizza service saved me a nights cooking/pot washing. We would definitely come again.

Really disappointed with this site. Our pitch was on a slope which was inconvenience enough however during a downpour the water from the top of the site was channeled down the back of our pitch. No warning but fortunately I spotted this as the rain started whilst we put the tent up. Our neighbours weren't so lucky as the water streamed through their stepping area. Felt somewhat cheated giving that we paid the same in the overflow field as those with the well drained flat pitches at the top of the site. Couldn't fault the washroom mind. Won't be returning however.

There is no doubt about the quality of the facilities. Super.
We were under canvas for this trip so can't comment on the wigwams and tipi village, but they looked great.
Only downside and it would definitely put me off a long stay, was the very very sloping camping field. It was such a shame because everything else was fantastic, including the staff.

Fantastic site
I stayed in a big chief wigwam I'm a single mum with three kids 4, 10, 13 one of which is special needs, & we all found this site fantastic, every detail from the friendly welcome to the little things like background music on in the facilities, I really couldn't fault a thing! I felt safe on the site, the kids found the park play area great fun, added extras of the animals rabbits alpacas donkeys they loved! I was particularly impressed with the showers and bathrooms! The wigwam itself once again couldn't fault, , it had everything and more that you would need for camping saved room in the car not having to take airbeds! We were really comfy and nice and cosy!
Can't wait to go back

Must Visit Campsite.
Well what can I say, this is the best campsite we have ever visited - really beautiful setting, small but a good size, great play ground for kids up to the age of about 12 I would have said - beautiful scenery - farm animals, chicks, rabbits, Alpaca's etc etc and the best showers and tilts ever - they even have bathrooms which my daughter loved, it was like home from home. Have a god read of the 'activities' on the website as they are spot on - we went to Kielder Water - about an hour away from the site but an amazing day out if you like walking and cycling - we did the taster activity days too there that were amazing. We also walked Hadrians wall and had a visit to walby farm.
The staff themselves, can't do enough for you - we arrived very late at 23:10 and it was too dark to pitch but the owners kindly let us stay in their car park and ensured we had everything we needed before we went to sleep - in the morning they opened up early so we could pitch and be off for the day. We needed butter one day and they didn't have it in stock but they just give us some - they were so lovely and kind. My only advise would be to maybe add a few more items to the shop but there is a co=op and sainsburies in Haltwhiostle 5mins away in the car. We ate Sunday dinner at the Milecastle Inn which was really nice too and I am really funny with sunday dinners. , All in all a fab campsite can't recommend it enough.

Planned to camp here with a mate and do some winter walking. However, weather turned us into geriatric wimps and we asked about using a wigwam.
Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Wigwams were not available but we were offered exclusive use of the twin bunked bunkhouse rooms and got one each. Plus the use of the fully fitted kitchen and the en suite toilet. On the final night we lit the log stove (logs provided) and cooked steaks from the local butchers.
The campsite facilities are every bit as good as other reviews state. The bonus is the people. The owner and his wardens were friendly, solicitous and ultra helpful. Facilities are important but it's really all about the people and this is what sets Herding Hill Farm apart.
To cap it all, they promised not to tell anyone that we'd gone soft in our old age!
GO THERE!

Arrived on site to be met by the owner who gave us all the details we needed. We had an EHU and the pitch was very large plenty room for tent, car etc. The site is spotlessly clean with the best toilet/shower facilities I have seen, there are also baths-and a plus there is no charge for using hairdryers. Nothing was any trouble for the owners, and when we inquired about getting an airbed (we forgot one)he handed one over there and then to use. We noticed that there is also a sauna to hire. The shop is well stocked, and they make pizzas breakfast rolls and deliver to your unit. It is set in a lovely location and it makes a great starting point for days out, went to the outdoor pool at Haltwhistle. Great park for the kids which is enclosed. All in all a great find, and we will definitely return VERY SOON :)

Paying over £34 a night did put me off at first. But once we got pitched up and settled, it was clear to see it was a little gem. The shower block was very modern with great showers and music playing. Only constructive criticism could of done with a bench or more room for your clothes once showering.
The children loved the modern play park. It also had ducks and donkeys. Lady on the site was very nice and helpful.
Great size pitch. Lots of room for awning and car. Short walk to local pub which did good food and drink.
Loads of walks in the area and Carlisle not to far away.
Overall great site for a few days but gets pricey if staying longer.

Spent two nights here on sat/sun. 3 adults 2 children. The owner showed us to our pitch on his golf cart. Pitch was level with EHU and water points within easy reach. The shower/toilet block is fantastic and spotlessly clean. It has under floor heating and piped music. The ladies also has two baths. It is a lovely family site kids loved the playground and the two Donkeys and the Ducks. We ordered the pizza and burgers from the cafe as we arrived lateish and didn't want to cook. These are delivered to your pitch on afore mentioned golf cart. Didn't think much of the pizza to be honest and they are quite expensive. The chips at £2. 50 for a tiny portion were a bit of a rip. The burgers however were delicious. The site is very exposed and mostly very windy. There was no wind when you went down the very long steep hill into Haltwhistle. On the whole we loved this site the owners work very hard and are friendly. We live only 40 miles away at the end of Hadrians wall and will definitely return in the future.

We have just stayed for 2 nights 3 families from Dunbar, Clitheroe and Glasgow, meeting up for a weekend together, it was the perfect middle ground for us to travel to.
The site is exceptional, the family run site caters for everything, you can even get breakfast and dinner cooked up for you and delivered to your tent by the managing director! Now that's service for you :-)
The facilities are first class; you even get tunes to listen to in the brand new toilet / shower / bath block. They even have a Sauna but with the very warm weather we didn't need that - Everything is very new but the site almost has a farm feel to it, the pitches are a great size.
We have stayed at a lot of campsites in the UK but this was in a league of its own. The children played at the themed play park and fed the resident donkeys which kept them all entertained for hours.
The owners work very hard to ensure you have a memorable stay and the location is stunning with beautiful views and very near to Hadrians Wall. The Owner also was very happy to share local knowledge of where to go and explore and he directed us to a River that we all swam in both days which was awesome.
We will most definitely return here as an annual meet up with our close friends and their families.
