We had a weekend break in a pod as we have two children under 7 and the weather forecast was pretty bleak. However, the weather was really good and we could of happily camped without any problems. The staff were all really friendly and accommodating and the on site shop is well stocked and not too pricey. The best pitches for caravans have a brilliant sea view and no matter where you are you are only a couple of minutes away from the beach. The showers are free and work well and the toilet blocks were always clean and tidy. There isn't a clubhouse or bar, but there is a pub nearby. There could have been a bigger play area for the kids, but this is nitpicking. We enjoyed it so much we booked a static van in August.

Had a really enjoyable two night stay over a wet blustery weekend.
In our van we didn't have a problem with the road down to the site, but I can understand the comments from those towing caravans. However, don't let this put you off or you'll miss out on a great location.
There are pitches that have sea views, however these were out of our budget, so we stopped in the 'Red Hill View' area. This gave nice views over the surrounding countryside and you can still hear the waves crashing on the beach. The pitches are a little sloping, but blocks are available to help with the levelling.
The beach is easily accessible as is the Coastal Path. As the weather had closed in, we walked along the Coastal Path to West Bay (about 3-ish miles away), which has a couple of pubs and numerous food huts on the quay.
The shop/reception on the site is very well stocked and the welcome from the warden was very friendly and she was happy to help.
The washroom facilities were fine, a little dated for the type of holiday park site it is, but no problems with them. The wash-up area is outside but covered.
A point worth noting is on a Saturday night, a Fish and Chip van visits the site and very tasty they were too!
The Anchor, the local pub in Seatown, is still shut for refurbishment but was due to open during May. There are other pubs about half a mile up the bridle way in Chideock.
All-in-all we had a very relaxing weekend and will return later in the year, hopefully when the weather is a little more on the sunny side!

Excellent site in a superb location. £20 a night is not bad for where it is (and there are discounts, e.g. £10 off for a 3-night weekend). The site is right on the coast path, with the challenge of Golden Cap itself (the highest point on the south coast) adjacent.
Note the Anchor pub will be closed from late Sept 2013 all winter for refurb, be warned.
A previous reviewer suggests exiting via Mill Lane: maybe, but this is officially a bridleway, not a road, so maybe you shouldn't. Take advice from reception.

We found this site first in April 2013 and this visit was the third this year, A gem of a spot with a pub almost on the beach. Good sea fishing from the beach, and near the coastal path for walkers. Splendid views of the highest point on South coast path. The site has two clean toilet blocks and a well stocked shop. A 10 minute's walk along a bridle path takes you to the main road bus stops. A well managed site for tourer's/camper's or you can hire a static. The only down side is the last 1/4 mile is narrow but that's not the camps fault.

We have been a number of times to Golden Cap, the campsite is fantastic we normally go in August they open a field in august no electric but great views and usually get in even at bank holiday. Showers are great clean and the shop is well stocked. Pub called the Anchor short walk though this time we thought the menu was a bit limited maybe because it was summer holidays but overall the whole place is great

Stayed on this site for 3 nights in late July 2013. The site is clean, very tidy, the staff are friendly and we did not experience any problems. The pitches are large so anyone with a larger tent should not have any problems. The location is superb and the on site shop means you can leave you car parked up for the length of your stay. This is a large site which means the toilet block etc is a long'ish walk especially if you are in a rush with little ones !

Locations don't get any better than this - this is for those who value peace and quiet. In beautiful Dorset countryside - right by the sea ! - there is no club house, no bar, just the beach. The very popular Anchor Inn is 5 mins away, or Chideock Village is a 10 min stroll away.
There is a well stocked shop on site, for all your daily needs - also sells newspapers - Dont miss out on the fish and chip van that comes on site Sat nights, our Cod had just been caught that day - best fish and chips I have had in a lot of years.
My only criticism of the campsite would have to be the shower/ toilet facilities are a bit dated, need a facelift, we have stayed at one of their other sites at Highlands end, and the showers were a lot better.

An excellent campsite.
The staff at reception were very welcoming and helpful. Visiting at the end of August/early September there was plenty of choice of pitches. It is a bit slopey so you do need to choose your pitch with care. We camped towards the top and had good views of the surrounding hills. The facilities were very good with thermostatically controlled hot water at the push of a button. I've stayed in hotels where the showers weren't that good.
The area is good for walking with spectacular views from the top to reward those that stay the course. The nearby pub had character. It specialises in seafood but had run out of fish by 7. 30. Luckily there was another pub a 10 minute walk away in Chideock with good food.
Top Tip: If travelling with caravan you should try to exit via Mill lane so as to avoid meeting another caravan on the narrow lane leading to Seatown.

Wow, what a lovely site, we were very lucky with the weather as we had about the only good week of the year so far.
The pitches were a good size although slightly sloping this was not a problem they have there own selection of levelling blocks if needed.
The toilets/showers are clean and spacious and never that busy.
The location is beautiful right by the beach and pub, which we used most evenings, although never tried the food but it did look good.
Good shop on site also.
Plenty of lovely walks in the area. Golden Cap being a bit steep for me, but great views if you make the effort.
Will be returning probably one of my favourites sites!

This site was recommended by so many friends cos of the sea view. Arrived 15:00 on a Wednesday in May and all five of the touring pitches with sea views were taken. Fortunate really cos the famed view was mostly of the public car park and the pitches were jammed up together.
So instead, parked on grass at the top of the site where the views up the nearby hill are far better. But the problem with the upper end of the site is that you will need all your ramps to get level. The gravel pitches did not seem to be level; we did try one but got bogged down in the deep gravel.
The site is really well run with very good toilet and showers. Seatown is approached by a narrow lane; don’t know what happens if two caravans meet?
Although the site is beside the sea its not suitable for a beach holiday—the shingle beach is not suitable for swimming and I would expect very uncomfortable for sunbathing.
The walk up Golden Cap is recommended but choose a cool day.
