We stayed here for a few days, when the site was fairly full.
The scenery is amazing! We were in Area 9 - the overflow camping field - and had panoramic views. It is a sloping field and in parts was very steep, but we picked a fairly level part.
The toilet block is a fairly long walk (particularly for small children who go to the toilet often!). The showers were not very clean - it's a shame enough people don't use the mop and brush provided! This was my one criticism of the site - a block in Area 9 would make all the difference.
The site itself could get very windy and you do need to pick a spot with care. We were amazed that not all the tents had their guy lines pegged out - particularly when you can see how tents get blown away. However there were sheltered spots.
The other main problem with small children is that people are driving past all the time, often to go to the shower block. If you camp near to the edge of the field, this would be less of a problem.
The shop was fine - lots of little bits and pieces - fine for biscuits, milk and the papers.
The stony beach was amazing - a couple of minutes from the tent. We walked up the hills and were rewarded by wonderful views. The Anchor pub was lovely - but visit early - it gets very busy!
We had a really relaxing break and will definitely return in the future, particularly good with larger groups as the pitches are not defined.

The summaries of the previous reviews sum up the site well.
Excellent location. Well laid out and managed. Pitches were well laid out and well tended. Most reasonably level and many somewhat sheltered. Children play park a little sparse, but then there is the beech very close which is a big draw. Toilet blocks are a bit dated but generally clean. Overall, would return.

Just returned from 2 nights at the Golden Cap, lovely lovely site! We took our boys aged 8 and 6, we had no wind, was worried after reading the reviews but it was lovely if anything we were camping in a sheltered area amongst trees. Site was clean, toilets were clean, showers were clean and had been cleaned every day I know cos I slipped on the newly mopped floor! Staff helpful and polite, beach lovely and anchor pub just right, small park on site that kept the kids entertained when we needed, would definitely return!

This is one of our favourite sites, visited many times over the years I have always found the staff very helpful and friendly, surprised at the amount of reviews that haven't. The toilet blocks can be a bit dirty at high season, and the showers could be upgraded. The on site shop has all you need and stays open till 9pm in high season, you have the anchor pub just at the beach, which is only 5 min walk from site, really good pub grub at a reasonable price The beach is shingle, a great place for fossil hunting, the best to be found at the waters edge, 'caution' do not hammer at the cliffs for fossils as this can be very dangerous, there are signs on the beach that say no dogs but never had a problem, as long as you pick up mess, You can walk to west bay from site and charmouth and you can use sister site facilities at highlands end for a small fee A great site to visit and will keep on doing so.

We stayed at Golden Cap mid-August with a plan to spend 2 nights.
Initial impressions were reasonably favourable.
The tent field (Area 9) is large with unmarked pitches. The shower block was adequate (although it doesn't appear to be cleaned that often).
The camp shop is pretty well stocked and the staff friendly.
The site location is great, easy walk to the shingle beach and a number of child friendly pubs serving good food.
Downsides.
Our stay had been preceded by a week of poor weather, so the tent site (Area 9) was extremely muddy - eventually the field became almost unnavigable in some areas - in fact had we stayed another day I doubt we'd have been able to drive to our side of the field.
If you choose to pitch at the top end of the field you have a long old walk to the shower block. If you pitch at the end of the field nearer the block you may find the noise of the pump block next to the filed rather annoying.
The shower block was in good working order, but it had been left in a poor state by a previous occupant - this didn't appear to be cleaned over the 2 days we were here.
As mentioned by previous reviewers, the wind was a big issue on this site - in fact it was our bad luck that our stay was cut short by the wind inflicting unrepairable damage to the tent : ( - In fact unpon dumping out rubbish in the bin at the end of our stay it would appear that we were not alone that week as there were the remains of 2 more tents in the bin.
This site has a sister site with a decent swimming pool, sauna etc, which we made good use of - this is a 10 mins drive from Golden cap.
Obviously our poor weather gave a somewhat slanted view of the site, but given good weather
This would be a reasonable site to stay at. Would I come back? - probably not (at least until we have a more robust tent : )

Just returned having spent 3 glorious nights under canvas. Myself , my wife and 2 boys aged 10 and 14 had a lovely time at this spacious site. The location is ideal with the beach and Anchor Pub only 5 mins walking distance away. The beach is pea shingle with plenty of room. The Anchor Pub is a must with great ales and good traditional food matched with great views of the beach. The campsite is well laid out and never felt cramped. We were situated in Area 9 with the toilet/shower block only 200 yds away. Always plenty of hot water and never had to wait. The onsite shop is well stocked for the main essentials. There is a Morrisons at Bridport (10mins away). We will be returning to Golden Cap in the future as there were lots of things we didn't do and see.

We went into the 'Touring' section of this site. It is absolutely stunning - the downside are those beautiful hills - The Golden Cap on one side and another huge hill on the other, with the sea view in between - imagine what happens with the winddddddddddddd! We went twice in August - first time we watched as about four tents blew away - I thought as ours was brand new and geo-somthingly made we would be okay. We returned because of the stunning walks about two weeks later - almost every tent on the site was blown away. The lovely people from the static caravans in the middle of the night and early morning were there to help - we slept in the car from 2.00 am. All our clothes were wet and we went home in pj's. Disappointingly the site employess vnever came out to even look, let alone help. There was absolutely no mention of the high winds infact we were told to pitch our tent high up on the hill - which of course would be ridiculous in retrospect. So if you go here, pitch right down in the valley away from the vacuum.

Just returned from a wonderful week at Golden Cap, I would highly recommend this site for anybody wishing to experience the Jurassic Coast in all its glory. Very quiet site, not one night of noise (something we've not experienced before!). Small play area for the kids, but they seemed to make the most of it. Good little shop on site too, stocked quite a bit but with a big Morrisons in Bridport only used it for morning paper and emergency milk. Toilet blocks are well designed, plenty of room in the showers but they are the push button variety which can make washing long hair a bit of a struggle. Not exceptionally clean, but with a big and busy campsite not surprising. There are mops and things left in the block for you to clean shower out after use, its a shame not more people thought to do this. But would point out a couple of things - site is sloping, so be prepared for sliding furniture and beds. Also it rained a lot for the first couple of days and our pitch ended up being a complete bog puddle for the remainder of our visit. Didn't put us off too much as have footprint for the tent, but some others ended up really mucky! All in all, a good family site with plenty to see and do in the local area with a lovely little shingle bay right outside the camp entrance. Oh, one other thing, the entrance road to get to the site is VERY NARROW. Had a couple of hairy experiences with caravans coming the other way. Just scraped paintwork but was hard work getting in and out at times.

If you want a quiet site this is the one for you! Nothing to do except take in the absolutely stunning views, the site very well landscaped with a 1st class shower block, there is a small shop at the entrance of site which seems to stock most essentials. The beach is a stone throw away, there is also a pub right by the beach. You can use the facillities at the sister site which is 5mins drive away. I would recommend this site if you want to get away from the rat race. We will stay here again if we are visiting the area.

We spent three nights at Golden Cap in area 9 which is the basic camping field. The field itself was lovely not to wet nor to dry. It was very peace full and everyone there seemed pleasant. The shop had everything that you would want from a campsite shop including fresh fruit and veg which I thought was a nice touch, The local pub the Anchor Inn was very cosy and was extremely nice to have a drink on the clifftop. The toilet block was nice but it seemed that the other toilet block in the tourer area was newer and well maintained. We will definitely be coming back here again, most likely this year and I can't recommend it enough.
