We really enjoyed staying on the site. We paid the extra to have a seaview pitch which gave us front row views over the beach and sea. Not much to add to comments already made other than to point out that the beach is a total no dog area.
Apparently the beach is privately owned and the notice to keep dogs off the beach is the owners decision and actually applies all year round. Not many people, like ourselves, were aware of this until we had already been on the beach a few times.
The showers were a little in need of a good clean but I guess perhaps being at the end of the season this might be the reason why.
Be also aware that if you purchase wifi sessions and you are unable to connect your computer/telephone(s) (we had a laptop and two phones, none of which would connect) you will not be given a refund. An apology would have been nice!
Finally, the price of £3. 20 per dog per night, is very high when there are no specific dog walks provided by the owners and being in our own motorhome we were not using their facilities.
A few down sides to this site. We would stay here again if we are back in the area but we will be a lot wiser to a few things.
It is well worth the walk over the hills to Eype, there is a great cafe which does the best cream teas. The walks around the site are fantastic, with amazing views of the coast.

This was our first trip since moving over to a caravan and ditto Golden Cap.
It is probably the best site I have ever stayed at, good, large pitches and lovely views, a helpful staff and excellent shower/toilets, although it was rather strange that while the shower tap only stayed on for about five seconds, the sink taps would stay on forever. The nearest pub sold very good beer but on Saturday nights gets clogged with rambler types, so a trip to the Clock House in Chideock, a short walk along the byeway in the bottom corner of the site is a good move. My dogs loved the whole area and we walked most of the very steep hills around the site. There are signs that forbid dog walking on the beach, but it sems that these have been put up by an absentee landlord who, apparently, has never been to GC, and there were about ten dogs on the beach while we were there, so we joined them ! There is an excellent caravan shop/dealer in Charmouth who was very helpful when we wanted some parts, and, of course, the local towns of Lyme Regis, Bridport and West Bay need no introduction. Would I go again, without doubt.
A 99. 5 / 100 is a fair assessment, if only those lovely showers lasted a little bit longer !

If you want to be right on the coast with magnificent views and wonderful walks on a premium camp site at reasonable tariff, with a friendly pub next door then this is it.
Not all pitches have a sea view but those that don't have magnificent views of the coastal hills.
The facilities were excellent, very clean, and the largest shower cubicles I have ever seen.
Yes the approach road is narrow and it seems to get narrower as you go along, but don't let this put you off, there are passing places. We are 7 meters long and 10ft wide, and there were very many large tourers there also. The shop is very well stocked and reasonable, bread, milk, eggs and everything
Walk to Lyme Regis and bus back (buses hourly to Chideock about 20mins walk from campsite)
Or east to Eype, for the most beautiful coastal path and views
Not much for kids though

As an ex-tent camper born again in campervan mode I chose Golden Cap as my first short break having never stayed here before. I stayed two nights in May 2011 during which there were gale force winds and storms.
The site is beautifully situated on the Dorset coast down a narrow lane from Chideock. The pitching areas were exceptionally well maintained - during my stay the site team were continually in evidence keeping an eye on things, and the site was very well maintained.
The washblock was extremely good - both in layout, facilities and cleanliness. There is a shop which appears well stocked and the reception staff were helpful. There are a couple of pubs (on the beach and in Chideock) within easy reach, though I can't vouch for the food or beer.
The surprising number of static mobile homes on site is not easily appreciated due to exceptional landscaping so I expect the ambience may be different in peak season, but in early May 2011 this was the most wonderful seaside location to be: quiet and peaceful, atmospheric, fantastic views and walks up the coastal path, and beautifully maintained.

We visited Golden Cap between 8th and 13th May and this was our first visit - we were very impressed. On arrival our welcome was warm and they were expecting us. We had booked on line a grass pitch for our tent with electric hook up for £17 per night incl 2 adults.
As it was early in the season we were invited to choose any one of about 30 pitches. I must state that nearly all grass pitches with hook ups are on a gentle slope but it did not affect us - it may if you have more free standing equipment.
The pitches are quite large and most are segregated by post s/ fences / bushes etc. The toilet blocks were great, approx 6 showers (with separate enclosed changing area) which were free, clean, good water temp adjustment and good pressure. The icing on the cake was piped radio into these blocks - a great way to wake up in the morning.
The on site shop was small but well stocked, reasonably priced and very friendly staff. The pub on the beach (The Anchor) was very popular, small on the inside and the meals looked good.
For a great pub meal go to The George in Chideock which is run by ex-River Cottage staff. To get to Chideock walk along the bridle path running alongside the caravans in the back right corner of the site as viewed from the sea front. Turn right at the house with the two concrete foxes and follow the path into the village - takes about 10 minutes from the site to the village.
Bridport is a nice well stocked market town (park behind Waitrose), West Bay is ok but a little down market in our opinion. Lyme Regis is a great (quaint) sea side town with a sandy beach, nice shops, great pubs and a good crazy golf on top of the promenade. Beer is a lovely little seaside fishing village and is only about a 30 minute drive - combine the day with Seaton and/or Sidmouth.
This is a great camping site, probably one of the best we have stayed in for a relaxed holiday but be aware dogs are allowed and we were a little disappointed by some of the owners NOT clearing up the mess but this is not a fault of the site.

We finally got to Golden Cap, nearly 5 years after being told to go in our Bongo by old family friends.
Can't believe it has taken 51 years to discover this beautiful stretch of the Jurassic Coast. We spent our days walking the coastal path up to Golden Cap itself, and eastward to Eype.
Stunning location for a camp site. Easy stroll to the beach, which is a pebble beach, but keeps the kids (old & young) amused.
The site shop is well stocked and not too pricey. The site is spotless, pitches with plenty of room, hardtsandings, hook up. Toilet block well laid out and clean, plenty of hot water. Dish washing facilities excellent.
There is a small playground, but the site is so well laid out the kids can just play anywhere.
Only downside was the lovely National Trust Garden Cafe, and pub, cafe in Eype are closed on Mondays due to restrictive Planning Permissions. When wil UK councils comprehend the value of tourists?
The pub in Seatown is very expensive, and the kitchen would put you off eating if you looked in!
We will return, lots.

We loved this site and had a great time walking the coast path including Golden Cap itself
We made the mistake of arriving at 4pm an a Saturday as the day visitors were leaving. The lane is very narrow and we had a few anxious moments getting past other vehicles. Our motorhome is a modest size and would not have liked to have a larger vehicle or caravan. No problems when we left on a weekday morning
The site was well run and maintained. Facilities were good although there is only one block with showers. We were near the entrance with a toilet block nearby
Pub near the beach served nice food and real ales so we thoroughly enjoyed it!
We will be back

Spent 5 nights, generous pitch size. The electrical hook ups were nicely terraced with little rows of hedgerow/trees between each 'layer'. Witnessed the presence of the site managers walking round in the early evening and even checking loos late at night (11pm) which was very reassuring. Nearest pub was a bit expensive and food def pub-grub in quality however pleasant enough. Chippy van visits a few nights a week which makes a welcome break from cooking or eating salads. We will def visit again and highly recommend.
We are not walkers (got a 3year old) the footpaths over the cliffs looking out to sea must be spectacular. Lovely people that work there and the site is a credit to them!

7 night stay on Area 9 of the site. This is a big site, sub divided for statics caravans and tents with hook ups. Area 9 is for tents without hookup and feels like a bit of an afterthought. Area 9 is a large sloping field and when we arrived we could only pitch high in the centre of the field. This left us rather exposed during a period of bad weather and eventually we had to move to the perimeter for more shelter. The toilet block is also quite a way from this field.
Having said that, the site is well looked after and the shower/toilet blocks were constantly cleaned by friendly staff. The site is in a lovely location almost on the beach however the lane leading down to the site is very narrow and was blocked a few times during our stay by caravans trying to pass.
The shop on site is well stocked with essentials and Morrisons can be found at Bridport. Lyme Regis just up the coast is a great day out and we found good food at the Bridport Arms at West Bay (the fish stewpot is divine).
Overall, I would visit the site again, but would go for the electrical hook up pitches (even though I wouldn't use it) just to get a flat, sheltered pitch a bit nearer to the amenities.

Stayed here for 4 nights over the Aug Bank Holiday. Stayed in Area 9 which is a large sloping field, you are ok as long as you find a flat bit, we found around the edge is best.
The field has great views. However we understand from others if its windy then it blows through the field like a tornado, lucky for us the weather was great,so no such problem.
The toilets are a bit of a long walk, although always spotless, with plenty of hot water. The beach is a 10 min walk from area 9,with the Anchor Pub almost on the beach.
The pub serves good food although not cheap. The site has a small shop which sells the things you might run out of. Would we go again Yes but would try to get into Area 4 which is more in the centre of the park,a lot of pitches in area 4 have sea views, and is nearer to the beach and toilets.
