We've just returned from a long weekend here & what a great time we had!
The doctor's field is where we pitched & it was nice, the view was fantastic. We had regular visits from 4 very friendly horses who were only too happy to be petted & fed.
There are several lovely walks, and the site is nearby to plenty of places;Kendal 20 miles, Settle 3 miles, Ingleton falls 5 miles. It's half a mile walk into Austwick where there is a nice pub that serves food & for those who fancy I hear the take away delivery pizzas are great.
The only pitfall to this site is at busy periods like this weekend, you may have a wait for the toilet / shower. The staff did open the bar toilets which was better for those of us who only required the loo. There was also a queue for the wash rooms at times.
We will, despite the lack of loos, be visiting again, thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

I have stayed at this site many times and have chosen it as my campsite when I go walking in the Dales now. The last visit there sums up what a great place this is.
I arrived there August bank holiday without booking as it was a last minute decision only to see the 'campsite full' sign on the road. As I had travelled a fair distance I went into the reception to see if there were any cancellations but there weren't. The couple in reception couldn't be any nicer and remembered me from a previous visit and told me just to go and pitch my tent and enjoy the weekend.
The site has around 10 toilets, which also have a shower in them, the shower is free. Because there are so many showers, you don't feel like you have to rush as the only time I've seen queues are in the morning when the site is busy.
There is a pub and a shop, I haven't used either as I always make sure I have enough food and drink so can't really comment but it's just nice to know they are there if needed. The main camping field is large, so kids can freely run around without tripping over peoples tents or generally being a nuisance.
The only couple of negatives I've had in my times there is if it's busy and they open the other field, it's quite near to the main road (the A65) and this can be very noisy at times, usually bikers doing about 70 round the bends. So, come early and get a better pitch. Also, if you are in the field you can be quite a distance from the toilet blocks if you get caught short during the night.
The campsite is only a few miles away from the start of the 3 peaks walk and I'd recommend this one if you are doing the walk rather than staying in the noisier one in Horton which is lacking in things like toilets / showers. There are a couple of takeaways in Settle or a little chef a few miles away if you fancy a hot meal made for you but there is also a large van just over the road from the site that does make a rather nice breakfast.
In short, I'd recommend this campsite and will be staying there many times this year.

This was the first stop off on a 7 month tour of the UK and Europe. Arrived late on a cold Monday night and the steward was very friendly, offering to help us set up. Woke up to stunning views on a cold winters morning.
The steward helped us on our way, offering two walks in the Dales which were fine for amateur walkers. The Town of Austwick is less than 10 minutes walk with a lovely pub.
The site was nice, we stayed three nights, and were the only people there. The hard standing pitches are a little walk to the washing facilities - which are functional. Could do with a re-vamp and a clean - but showers were warm and the underfloor heating was a bonus.

We spent 5 days here, paying £14 for pitch & £6 for EHU, the latter is excessive in my opinion even though it was 15 amp.
The facilities were adequate, the toilet block consists of a toilet sink & shower in each cubicle but the provision of a shower curtain and a draught excluder on the door would improve them. The heated floors in each cubicle really were effective (-7 degrees on the Saturday morning ) I actually felt them all to see which was the warmest, - I never felt cold after showering.
Site owner & staff superb. Superb meals at The Gamecock in Austwick try the 'delicious squirrel' desert(can't remember the french name for squirrel but it begins with delice )
Great area for walking / touring -3 peaks of Yorkshire Gaping Ghyll / Ingleton etc.Would go back in winter if price was lower for EHU but suspect would be too busy for us in summer. Friends used bunkbarn for w/e but wouldn`t go back as they were unhappy with some minor faults in their room

We stayed August bank holiday the busiest time of year. The site was very well presented, nice polite owner. There were 12 of us staying altogether and we had a great time. The toilets and showers heated a bit messy at times but considering the amount of people & the fact it rained for 2 of the days it was understandable. We didn't go to the bar but it looked very nice. It says on the website no fires but we had one every night in our barbeque off the ground with no complaints. We read the reviews on this site before coming & noticed there was some bad ones about the toilets but I would just like to mention that if anyone actually took the time to speak to the poor young couple who were on site you would find that they are the only people working, 15 hours a day at £6 an hour cleaning the toilets, running the bar, checking everyone in and if that wasn't bad enough for them the owner had them opening everyones binbags to recycle items that others couldn't be bothered to. There is no separate dog muck bins or nappy bins so bear that in mind before you complain. We had a great time though all in all.

Reading the previous reviews I think I must have been to a different campsite! There are only 10 WC/Showers for about 300 people, which were always awash and dirty, with cobwebs and dead spiders, and a cracked toilet in one I used. In the wash-up room the hot water was lovely but the hot tap wouldn't stop - when I reported it was told its a regular occurrence. The field is huge with long grass, with just 3 water points and a very long way to the toilets with no lighting or path to guide you on your way. A group of young people were shouting whilst departing at 4.30 am waking us all up,then disturbing those in the bunkhouses too. Same with another group banging drums at 7.30 am. I did complain, Reception staff were nice and did apologise. Road noise and helicopters also ensured we barely got any sleep so left a day early. Austwick is nice, and the area for walking is lovely

This was our 2nd visit to the site, and it will be our last for a while. The site was very busy as it was bank holiday weekend and the 2nd field had been opened, and all the chalets were full.
This resulted in the toilets/showers being overwhelmed at times, and floors did get a bit grotty but the staff did their level best to keep on top of it. There were also a problem with the hot water but the campsite got this sorted in a timely manner.
The shop was adequately stocked with the essentials but a little overpriced £1.85 for a loaf of bread!
Worse was the noise at night from some other campers; there was a lot of music during the day which is bearable but on the last night there were a party of people shouting etc in drunken stupors, which made other campers young children cry from all the noise. Dogs were barking and it was a little bit like a domino effect one dog started and it cascaded throughout the site! Not good if you have children or want a good nights sleep. Take ear plugs if you're staying here at busy times.
There were signs about noise levels but no one really adhered to them and members of staff did nothing about the noise levels either.
I found the price expensive at £34.50 per night including electricity, it cost us the same amount to stay there for 3 nights as it did to stay at other campsites for a full week.
On a plus side the side is a good location to visit many local attractions and we visited Ingleborough caves which went down a treat with the family

We were visiting family in settle so only stayed one night on the site. The site was a lovely clean site with amazing views, plenty of toilets and shower which were nice and clean. On arrival the girl on reception was lovely and showed us exactly where we wanted to be and pointed out where toilets/showers/ water etc was
Does state about noise levels after 11pm but noone enforced this and that was what ruined my stay, group of campers partying till 5am screaming and yelling. I would visit the site again but would try to get a pitch away from the party animals ( I'm to old for 5am stay ups)

Visited on the 6th and 7th August 2010 for the first time. Had a very nice weekend and enjoyed everything about the site. There is a bar as well but we didn't use it but it looked ok and nice, the reception has a freezer to freeze your blocks which is free and very useful, the staff were polite and helpful. The toilets and showers were cleaned daily and throughout the day, it rained a lot so grass and water were always on the floor but the staff did a good job of keeping them as clean as they could considering the weather. The hot water in the showers runs hot to warm when its busy first thing in a morning when everyone is using them but if you keep it at it they get hot again.
Stayed in the main section of the campsite with mostly couples and families so the atmosphere was very good and quiet at night, there was a separate section for groups but didn't hear any loud noise at all except people having fun. The site is right next to the A65 but surprisingly the noise from the road is not that bad, you can hear the odd wagon hurtling past in the background buts it nothing that disturbs your peace and quiet. A very good campsite and worth a visit and we will be going back again. Could do with a bin to put dog poo though as couldn't find anywhere to dispose of it.

Just got back from this site we had a good time even though the weather was hit and miss. The camp site was flat we went without H/U but you can have a pitch with it for an extra £6pn. The field we were in you could hear the traffic from the A65 but when we go again we'll pitch in the other field behind the main building where there is a lot less traffic noise.
They have a shop on site for bits & bobs but if you want owt like gas cans then you'll have to go into Settle which is about 15mins drive.
The toilets/showers are kept clean and always stocked up with paper but they don't have soap so take soap when you pay a visit. There are plenty of showers/toilets and the hot water is plentiful and free which is always good.
There is a club on site but only opens at the weekends and it's just a basic club no games room just a bar and comfy sofas and tables and chairs.
If you like fishing you'd like Kilnsey Trout Farm it's about half hr drive but well worth a visit you can pay for the trail and see the trout farm but not really worth the money but well worth when you go fishing for your tea. You pay £6 per rod and about £2 to £3 per fish you catch. You have to take them home but what a nice tea it makes fresh water trout.
Another well worth visit is the falconry centre 2 mins from camp site word of advice though take your own food as they have a cafe and it's nicely done out but the food is very basic and seems to be out of a can and it's not worth the wait.
On whole we will be visiting the site again in the near future.
