We arrived at this camp at 3pm and was quick to learn the reception was closed until 4pm, so we set up on the tent field which was the furthest away from the toilet block, the shop was basic but adequate for what was needed and the location was good as York, Scarborough and other towns were within 30 miles of the camp in whatever direction.
The staff that I encountered (only ever saw one bloke!) was a little abrupt when I asked if there was any other more closer toilets. The field itself was fairly flat and the rules are basically if you can fit go there! which we found was great, had no problems with noise apart from a church bell that rang every hour at night but not during the day
Traffic noise was not a problem after about 7pm.
The field was well drained and was a pleasant trip. The only let down was the distance to the toilet/shower block.
The park was within eye view for everyone camping and at £20 for a 8 man tent it was good value per night.

Nice big field with plenty of space for your tent and car. Playpark excellent and hardly saw my daughter after her meeting plenty of friends.
No problem with noise, toilet and shower block are too far away from tent pitches especially when you got younger ones wanting toilet in middle of night.
Could do with putting a toilet block closer to tents rather than been down at caravan pitches where they probably all have them. Showers not fantastic and nowhere to plug dryer in, as one on site not working.
Area surrounding was lovely, visited castle howard then drove to york not too far away.
Enjoyed our stay but will prob try other sites round that area as paid £20 per night which seemed to be little expensive for what you get

Telephoned to say we would be arriving after 8. 30pm and this wasn't a problem for site manager.
The field was almost full on arrival as this was the first day of school summer holidays so there were quite a few children on site.
The spaces were large enough for us as we only had one car with 2 tents but could be a problem maybe if we had one car each as you'd have to park your vehicle in front of your tent (I don't like doing this as you feel hemmed in with a car in front of the tent) but as the 2nd tent was small could park alongside this smaller tent.
I loved being far away from traffic and could understand the sites popularity with younger children not being too restricted.
Site manager visited to see how we were getting on which was a nice touch.
The toilet/shower block was as said previously in need of modernisation and I felt that at £12 per couple per night a little on the high side for the facilities offered.
All in all I would recommend to younger families but as an older group would probably look elsewhere next time in the area.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at robin hood with extended family of 10 people (3 tents), we found the site quite easily after a drive through beautiful surroundings. The tent field was nicely set out with a children's playground at the top. We checked in at the shop (on the bottom field) and was told to pitch any where, which we did, however a disgruntled 2 man tent felt fit to complain as she didn't like being pitched too close to a group of 3 tents and hence moved herself! it may be a good idea for the owner to escort people to their pitches as not to offend anyone.
The toilets are a couple of minutes walk, not 10 minutes like some have said .Not really a big deal. The showers are ok but the whole unit looks like its in need of an update to be honest. The shop is open for a couple of hours twice a day selling basics, but turning left out of the campsite and 5 minute down the road is a sainsburys express and a little further is a morrisons. The campsite has very strict rules regarding any noise after 11pm, you could here a pin drop after 10.30. Whether this is a good or bad point is for you to decide! The weather was lovely and robin hood is a little sun trap, we had a lovely time with good company. After all it is what you make it!

Just come back from a fun packed family Easter weekend break. The weather was amazing. The site is very nicely laid out, well maintained and the park area was great for the children.
The only problem we had was the toilet and washing facilities being a little far away from the tent field.
Although the toilets were very clean, a few extra showers wouldn't go a miss.
Overall, this is a great campsite, very clean and friendly. Would recommend to family/friends.

We stayed in a tent pitch without EHU and although the site was busy we still had enough space for to play around the tent with our daughter.
We had no problems checking in even though we arrived later than reception time we just knocked on the door of the house and the lady was more than happy to help us. The showers and toilets are always kept to a high standard of cleanliness there was no litter and overall the site was very clean and tidy. The small shop provides the basics you need when you are camping and the children's play park is a great source of entertainment.
We stayed here to visit the steam rally in pickering over two days and we thoroughly enjoyed that as well our only problem with our stay here is that it wasn't long enough, this was our second visit to Robin Hood and we will be back next year!

We have just returned from a weekend at this campsite! Very nice pitches and very well thought out site.
I would agree with all the other reviews, the toilet block is about 5 minutes walk from the tent field. Not so good with a toilet training toddler or in the middle of the night.
The shop was very handy with all last minute things you may need and a morning paper.
The toilet block it's self was clean but could do with an update. And only two showers for the whole site. I found it difficult to shower my daughter and myself in the same cubicle. It could do with having a family room with shower.
It would be ideal to have a toilet block by the play ground and the other end of the site, and closer to the touring section.
All in all, a good family site, could be excellent with a few improvements.

Stayed here for one night on way back north. Lots of room and got to pick spot we liked. Main problem as highlighted in many of the other reviews is the distance from tent area to toilet / shower / washing up area. The tents are the farthest away and they are the ones which use all the facilities not the static caravans which all facilities are beside.
Slight problem as tents are also located closest to the road, although not too busy still a fair bit of road noise. If you are a light sleeper the village clock chimes every hour which I know is not the fault of the campsite can be very annoying especially at two/three in the morning.
I agree with other reviews in that if they built other toilet/shower block nearer to tent field then it could be a gem of a site.
The Grape Inn is fantastic little pub with good atmosphere, great meals and just a short walk away, set in the beautiful sleepy village of Slingsby.
If improvements were made for campers I would not hesitate to return to this site.

We have just returned from our touring holiday and this was one of the sites we visited. I must say that the site was clean and the play area for the children was brilliant, but as mentioned by other reviews, the walk to the toilets was a little far.
A toilet and shower block near the tent pitches would have been ideal. Washing up facilities were located behind the chemical waste cubicule and there were only two showers, so there was a constant queue at this busy time of year.
The bins were overflowing too and I have only just found out from other reviews that there was an access gate to the village behind the shop. All in all though a good site which would be excellent with a few changes.

Just returned from a one night stay at this campsite. It was our first outing with our Daughter, so we wanted a campsite that was safe, family friendly and welcoming with wash/ toilet facilities.
We were not disappointed! This is a fantastic campsite. The tent area is well maintained and the play park (slides, swings etc) is only a few yards away.
The toilet block is within walking distance and is very clean. There is also a small licensed shop at Reception for those essential items. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome.
Also, there is a local pub in Slingsby (about a 5 min walk from the park) called the Grapes Inn. Well worth a visit, the food and drink is excellent! And again you are made to feel very welcome.
All in all an excellent site and a great forst outing for my Daughter. Will be returning for a few nights later in the summer
