We have just returned from our first attempt at camping, which thankfully went very well. We only stayed at the site for one night to see how we got on and found it to be very nice.
The tent pitch area was near the entrance to the site and they children's play area was just over the very quiet camp road which our children loved. We had to drag them back to eat and sleep.
The one problem we did find was that the toilet block was quite a walk from the tent area. We had to walk 3/4 mins to get there which can be a problem when children need to go to the loo.
However we did find the facilities to be very clean and tidy. The toilet block and showers where always spotless and cleaned on a regular basis.
We used the washing up area which was fine, you did need to have brought your own washing up bowl as there was no plugs for the sinks, but the water was hot and dit the trick.
The found our pitch great as we got to choose where we wanted to stay and there was plenty of room. There was quite a lot of road noise but this would not have been so bad if we had been at the bottom end of the field.
The only niggles I would have are that the bin nearest to our field was overflowing on arrival and stayed that way for the two days. Also there was children playing in the play park until around 11pm shouting and screaming, which although is not the parks fault but it would have been nice for a warden to have called round at sime time.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at what was a very clean and tidy park with excellent play park and in a lovely area. We would recommend it to others.

We decided to choose this site as our first camping place after reading so many reviews, and we are very pleased.
It is in secure site surrounded by trees. The pitches were large and clean, and you can choose any pitch within the area. The play area was fantastic, children had good time there.
Yes you can hear a little road noise but it did not bother us at night. Everyone was friendly and polite, only felt unease when a mum shouting to their children too much. Barbecue is allowed so we used disposable one and enjoyed it but make sure not to burn the grass. The toilet block, shop etc are on their own. The toilets are clean and showers are good.
The only downside was the toilet block was so far away from the tent field, it is not in a convenient place if you want to go to toilet at night.

This was a gem of a find after many weeks looking and reading so many reviews. With it been our first foray into camping we needed to make sure we got the first campsite right and we certainly couldn't of picked a better site.
The pitches were lovely and large, big enough for our 6 man tent, awning and car! The field looked well kept and we didn't see our 9 and 8 year olds as the play area was fantastic.
Yes you can hear a little road noise but you always will when its usually quiet. Saturday night got very busy as the weather was fantastic, yet everyone was well behaved, considerate and quiet. At all times did we feel it safe to let the boys walk to the toilet block, shop etc on their own. The owners seemed nice and helpful too.
The one and only downside was the toilet block was so far away from the tent field, yet next to the statics which surely don't need them! A 3/4 minute walk seems a lot longer at 4 in the morning when the little ones need to go now! If they built a new toilet block up near the tent field this would be a fantastic site. They could also do with updating a little bit, although the water was always hot and the showers nice and powerful.

Have just returned from a 4 day break at the robin hood and cannot honestly find a bad comment to mention about a truly great site. We phoned up as a late change in weather moved us south instead of going to Scotland the owners were excellent in accommodating us up onto a hook up at such short notice as the site was quite busy.
We found the facilities very clean and although there was only 2 showers in each toilet block I never had to queue at any time of the day. On some reviews there is mention of road noise however I found that it was rarely noticed once settled in.
There is I believe a shop on site however its opening time is short and we never found the need to use it. There is a Sainsburys express in nearby Malton which is a short drive away which can accommodate most things required especially if you arrive after 5.30 when the local market town shops have closed.
On my parting note I must mention the children's play park where the owners have spent a lot of money making it as safe as practically possible there is a downside being children do have to cross the internal campsite road however I noticed that everyone moving to and fro from site kept to the 5mph speed limit especially when passing the park area which is surrounded by a 4ft fence so access is via one enterance only I have 3 kids and at no time did I worry about this during our stay here unlike other parks we have visited however a watchful eye is always recommended whilst children are playing.
All in all a great site which we have marked up as a 5* in our virtual brochure as being a definitely re-visit and with this site being central to a lot of great days out ( flamingo land / eden camp/ castle howard / whitby / Scarborough just some of the places within a short distance to great days out

An absolutely beautiful place. A very well kept clean and tidy site within easy reach of the A64 with friendly staff.
A couple of pointers though. The showers / toilets would benefit from a refit. Toilet seats falling off and general signs of ageing etc.
Although it doesn't say so on the website, the shop offer a re-freeze facility for your fridge blocks.
The shop also keeps a half decent stock of food and the fish & chip van visits every Saturday evening.
If I were the owners I would also offer vacant electrical pitches whether for one or two nights, not just the minimum three.
A downside is that the tent pitches are a fair trek to the wash / toilet block as well.
The Grapes is the village pub with hand pulled fantastic Cask Marque beers, Black Sheep and Copper Dragon 'Golden Pippin'. Another friendly place worth a stroll to.
Overall we will go back as we enjoyed our stay there, including a visit to nearby Castle Howard. It's quite pricey to get in, but worth it for a day out with a picnic.

I decided on this site after reading all the good reviews. A very pleasant lady took my booking over the phone and was told a late arrival would be no problem either.
Plus points:
Well maintained grounds.
Serviced pitches at reasonable rates.
Very peaceful on the hardstanding area.
Good location for visiting the locality.
Excellent children's playground.
Negative points:
All the bins were overflowing.
I only visited them once, but when I did toilet/showers were very filthy - gents toilet seat smeared in 'dirt', ladies toilet sanitary bin overflowing and bin was overflowing with soiled nappies.
Shop /reception was hardly ever open.
This is a shame as the site has the potential to be top class, with a revamp and regular cleaning of the toilet /shower block. Even tidying the bins can change the whole image of a place!

Fantastic as we were the only caravan on the touring field. A couple of statics were occupied and we were told it would become busier the following weekend due to bank holiday and open air concerts at Castle Howard.
The site was very clean and tidy. Only two showers in the gents block and three in the ladies. All kept immaculately clean.
Shop wasn't open throughout our five day stay but we were sure if we had required anything the owners would have accommodated us.
Nice food at the nearby Grapes pub and we were made to feel very welcome.
Location was central to Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. Would definitely visit again.

We stayed here for a week over the Easter holidays. The caravan we stayed in was brand new, so no complaints there! The few teething problems were sorted quickly and without fuss by the friendly owners.
The static caravan area was at the bottom of the site, the play area was right at the top, so too far to allow little ones to walk themselves. That being said, if you were in the camping fields further up the site it would be fine.
The play area was excellent and well equipped - the only problem we had was some older kids standing all over the equipment, making it muddy for the younger kids. But hardly the site's fault!
We had no reason to use the toilet block, but looked in and it was very clean. Might be a little difficult to keep your clothes dry as there was no where to put them in the shower cubicle. There is only one toilet block so if you are in the top field it is a little bit of a trek, but I notice another user mentioned they may build another block which would be great.
The location is great, though you do need a car to explore the surrounding areas. The site is on the edge of the beautiful Castle Howard estate, well worth a visit.
All in all, a nice little site and we will definitely return, either booking one of the caravans in colder weather or bring our own tent in the better weather!

First the bits that need some attention:
1) As others have said the wash-block is a bit faded and frankly not big enough for the site, at busy times it is form an orderly queue.
2) The location of the wash-block is at the bottom of a fairly steep hill and a long way from the camping field.
3) Rubbish was full to overflowing during the bank holiday, they need more bins as even when the bin men came there was rubbish still strewn about as they obviously did not see at as their job to pick it all up.
4) Not all the caravan pitches actually have waste water outlets, the ones in the main field do but not the smaller one. If this matters to you then I would specify it when you book.
The good bits are the location, the decent pub as already mentioned and the friendly/helpful owners. The pitches in the two main touring fields are of a good size and we also found TV reception to be excellent.
It's also a handy location for Castle Howard and the surrounding area is very pretty indeed.
One word of warning if you are towing up from the A64 there is a very narrow arch to get through near Castle Howard. Apparently it's wide enough for a single decker bus but it doesn't look it from a distance. The alternative is a 12 mile detour which according to the owners takes you through narrower roads. So approach with caution and unless you are driving a juggernaut you should be okay.

We've just returned from Robin Hood after the Easter weekend. Our friends had arrived the day before and we found we had been pitched right next to them which was nice. The pitches were huge and our field only had 7 pitches on it so every tourer had plenty of room.
The site was very clean and the toilet and shower block was also immaculate, although the shower wasn't as hot as it could have been. Having said that, I only ever used the shower late at night.
The play area for children was fab, very clean, safe and modern, my 5 yr old loved it.
At the bottom of the site near the shop, you can walk out through a gate to the village which is lovely. It's about a 5 minute walk - if that, to the local pub, the grapes which is nice and v family friendly although be warned it is not cheap - a pint of cider was £3.15!
The owner of the site is also very friendly and helpful, we would definitely stay there again as it's also so very central to Yorkshires many attractions. The owner also told us they were planning on building another toilet block on one of the fields which would be great. The only downside I would say, was that depending on whereabouts you are pitched, it could be a bit far to walk - especially with kids in tow.
Although I would say that, despite it being weekend there were never any queues and as I've said before, they were always clean.
Would definitely recommend this wonderful site!
