We arrived on our cycles around 1pm, and unfortunately the reception was closed with a notice in the window stating it would reopen at 4. 30pm. We were not sure what to do and after 5 hours on our cycles we were tired and ready for a shower. After consulting with a chap who was cleaning the shower block we pitched our tent. The tent field is adjacent to the shower block/toilets so meant a small stroll. Showers are a cyclist best friend and we were not disappointed they were spotless and plenty of hot water, gels provided, 5 star. Feeling refreshed on the way back to our tent we passed the television games room which we thought we could watch a little television in the evening after our meal.

We had a nice cycle ride into Brid for supplies, then when we reentered the site we went to pay our site fee for one day. This is when we were disappointed as for one night in a small backpack tent we were charged £17, when we asked why the high charge their policy is that you pay for the pitch and not the size of tent. We feel they should have the site charges clearly visible on at reception, more so if it unmanned during the day. It dosent seem fair that a large family tent and say 8-9 campers pay the same as a one man back pack tent. Also when wanting to watch a bit of TV before turning in, the TV room was closed (6. 45pm) While good shower facilities, even though in another field, we wont be using the site if cycling again, as I felt a little bit cheated by their pricing policy.

Oh what a find! Lovely campsite and ideal location for exploring the coast without paying a premium for a seaside site. We booked last minute for the last weekend of the holidays having found our usual sites were full and were so glad now that they were! Even got the option to chose our pitch when ringing to book. Pitch was the flatest we've had and loved the walled garden giving the site a cosy feel. Some reviews said they thought the pitches were a bit small but we had ample room for our 8 man tent and various awnings. Little shop for all you need. More loos than I have ever seen on a campsite this size and three free showers and personal cubicles. All clean and plenty of hot water. Wash up facilities covered and well situated for chatting to fellow campers. Only complaint was group a couple of pitches along didn't observe the 11pm - 8 am quiet time and let their kids run around shrieking before 7 am. But there's always one, isn't there! Brid 5 miles, lovely Filey 11 miles. Highly recommended, on the list for next season!

This was our first venture into a camping holiday as a family and the campsite could not have been better. The toilet block & shower facilities were clean and well stocked with toilet roll! We stayed 10 days and only had to wait for a shower on 1 day and even then it was only a 5 minute wait. There is a family bathroom available to campers with young children and this was excellent.

The pitches had plenty of room around them, even for our 6 berth tent. The shop was well stocked and very reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome.

There were not many ammenities in the immediate surrounding area but this was not a problem.

There were a couple of things that could be improved - the shop didn't open until 9am which we felt was a bit late and the children's playground was just a wooden climbing frame. BUT, saying that, we would definitely go back.

Stayed here during a very wet weekend with young children and had a great time.

Facilities including a bath and dryer were a god send for us!

All the pitches were a good size and flat with good drainage.

Staff member we met friendly and there was a very friendly, family orientated atmosphere.

There was no noise nuisance and the shop was well stocked.

Easy access to Bridlington and other local attractions.

I would recommend this site.

A David Bellamy award-winning site, this is a lovely setting, with areas devoted to wildlife, peaceful field-side walks and countryside camping, all alongside brilliant amenities.

The washrooms are of most note; they are clean and the showers are hot and extendible, which means you can hose the cubicles down to clean after yourself. And satisfyingly, everyone did. Ladies, there is a free hairdyer which is pretty good, and lots of mirrors & private sink cubicles. Only 3 showers but I never queued.

This is not a place for 'chavs' or anyone wanting to party; all of the campers were respecful of each other and tidied up after themselves. The small children's' play area & separate games field (no ball games in between tents, hooray) were used & not abused while we were there.

In fact, special mention to the large family (with S. African members) who were there while we were - we were convinced such a large unit would be noisy and troublesome, but they managed the task of both enjoying themselves (it was lovely to watch such nice children playing, never thought I'd hear myself say that!)as well as respecting that there were other campers in the vicinity, proving larger groups can indeed camp alongside couples without either losing enjoyment (or sleep!).

Our only criticism/observation is that the pitches are slightly too small, given the sizes of tents nowadays. We felt that had the camp area been full (and it nearly was) it would have been too crowded.

The site could do with losing about 5 pitches in the field, so that each is slightly larger, especially as many had mole hills & had to camp 'in' from the edge, reducing the green space even more. Then again, at least the pitches are numbered & allocated, with the details on the board at reception if you arrive when the manager is out.

We will definitely return. The campsite is clean & well-run, and the area is lovely, with great food at the Bosville Arms (15 mins walk) and Rampant Horse in Thwing. The seaside towns of Bridlington, Scarborough & Filey are on your doorstep - and that's another review in itself, but I was pleasantly surprised at how clean they were!

All in all, camping how it should be done.

Thorpe Hall is our local bolt hole and we try to escape to this little jewel of a site when ever we can.

This wonderful site is perfect if you want a little peace and quiet. It is rather like stepping back in time, its unspoilt character gives Thorpe Hall a charm that is not seen in modern camp site's today.

The small shop/office is quaint and more than adequate, the big supermarkets are just down the road in Bridlington.

Jayne runs the site in a very professional manner, her customer service skills are exemplary and other sites would do well to try to emulate her.

The toilet block and pot wash are always immaculate and the family room is a real advantage if, (like us) you have small children, just ask Jayne for a key. There is a nice games room with pool machine, table tennis table and TV lounge for older children and a little climbing frame/tyre swings for younger ones.

The village of Rudston is a short walk away, I can't comment on the pub because we have never tried it, although I have heard good reports. We can however, recommend the newly completed children's playground, excellent.

Thorpe Hall is our favourite site and we are extremely lucky to have it on our doorstep.

For the very best Fish and Chips in Bridlington (voted by the locals) visit Bray's Fisheries on Lansdowne Road / Marshall Avenue you will not be disappointed.

Quick review of another gem of a site

Jayne in the shop could not be more friendly and helpful.

Site fantastic in the old walled veg garden of Thorpe Hall. Lots of children but very peaceful as children have a fantastic large games field and games room to use - whilst we were they all except the one family stuck to the no ball games near the caravans only on the games field. Jaynes checks the site after shops closed to make sure all is ok and no-one has any problems.

Toilets very clean and soap/shower gel provided.

Shop well stocked and newspapers can

Be ordered so they can keep them for you.

I would recommend the walk of the grounds with Sir Ian Macdonald saw some fantastic views and learnt a bit about the history of the grounds.

Had a huge meal at the pub in the village a 20min walk away.

This site is must for anyone wanting peace and quiet but the atmosphere of good traditional campsite with people outside and enjoying being there.

This is the first ever site we have stayed on as we are new to caravanning.

Don't think we could have picked a better place to stay on our first trip. The site is spotless and the facilities are first class, with a brand new toilet/shower block for 2011. Nice level enclosed grounds with very easy access. Didn't get chance to look at the TV/Games room nor the fishing lake with Bridlington just a short trip down the road we spent this trip looking around the local area.

I have given a 9/10 overall rating as this is our first encounter

Beautifully kept campsite in a walled garden. Our tent was up against the wall giving great shelter from any wind.

The site is one of the cleanest best kept sites we have stayed on.

Beautiful toilet/shower blocks always immaculately clean with lovely hot showers.

Lovely flat pitches, lovely grass and flowers everywhere.

Super little shop which stocks everything is run by Jayne the site manager who is very helpful.

Good dog walks, big field for kids to ride bikes, ball games etc, small park and games room.

Plenty of good pubs serving food in the surrounding villages.

Overall a really lovely relaxing little site if you want some peace and quiet.

Would recommend it to anyone, fantastic!

Our second visit to this site this year. First time back in June and stayed here because the larger ones nearby were full. Thank goodness they were as this is much more our kind of site. Nice and quiet, a smaller site. The pitches are mostly level with a few around the edges of the main area on a slight slope. The tent field is flat. The facilities are excellent and very clean, in fact the showers are so good they are better than ours at home! There is a bathroom that is for disabled persons but can also be used by families which was great for us with our two year old.

Jayne the manageress is as others have said, very welcoming and friendly and put up with our daughters seemingly endless window shopping every morning! The shop is well stocked for essentials, calor gas and campingaz is available (we use a campingaz 907 cylinder and exchanged it here)

The nearby road is busier than we remembered from June - then we were in the tent field but were in the main area in September to use the EHU which is not available in the tent field. The road noise wasn't intrusive however and didn't bother us. There are also TV links at the EHU points, currently this provides the five analogue channels. We also used the laundry facility, £3 for the washer and £1 for an hours use of the tumble dryer. There is also an iron and spin dryer provided. There is a games and TV room but we didn't use this on either of our visits and our daughter is too young for the playground.

As others have said Brid is just up the road and Tescos and Morrisons are nearby. The Park and Ride from near South Beach is recommended at £3.50 for all day parking and you can either travel into Brid on a bus or the land train.

Excellent site which we hope to return to in the future.
