I have been to this site quite a few times and used to go as a child as it is only 30mins from home. It's great because it's sheltered so usually warm and they do allow groups. Despite this it is not too noisy there are people up till late including children but they do seem to be considerate to keep it down when I've been there. It is very child friendly with a park and field for football etc as well as little stream which they all seem to play in. You have to have a car between each tent (H and S) and they do tell you where to pitch so bit annoying if you want to be a circle of fiends you can't. Quite expensive at £15 per tent but as it's so popular on weekends I guess they can charge that. The pub is lovely but on weekend book meals last time we were there they only just let us have food because we hadn't booked and it was so full, there was no-where to sit outside as it was so warm. Site facilities fine clean and basic. Loads of great places to visit/walk in the area

We visited this fabulous campsite for a weekend with a large group of friends of mixed ages.We had a great time, having picked a very hot weekend, however, even if it had rained it wouldn't have mattered as the children (age range 10 years-20 months) spent most of the weekend in the river anyway, swinging on the many rope swings and building dams.

If they weren't in the river they were playing footy on the large playing field or climbing on the various things in the playing area. We hardly saw them all weekend! (The site is safe and we could see them playing in the field from a short distance, and we were camped right next to the river so could keep a good eye on them).

Before we even got there booking was easy and very friendly, with one of the staff phoning me back as she was busy serving some kids buying sweets when I rang! Being a mother, I love those priorities!

The campsite welcomes groups which was great for us as we were a group of 5 families. If this sounds noisy it really wasn't as the campsite has a no noise after 11pm policy. It's busy and noisy during the day but it's the noise of kids having a great time!

The pitches are large and there is a mixture of electric hook up and none electric. The ladies shower and loo block has about 8 loos and 6 showers, which were a bit grubby, and not very high pressured but I've used a lot worse. My husband did say he had had a scalding hot shower on the Saturday night and couldn't regulate the temperature but no-one else had any problems.

Dogs are allowed but MUST be kept on a lead. This was adhered to while we were there, as far as I could see.

The local village of Rosedale Abbey is about a 5 minute easy walk and there is a lovely ice-cream shop, cafe and post office there. It's easily accessible with a pushchair.

Right opposite the site is a nice pub, which is also child friendly. Some of our party ate there on the Saturday night and enjoyed the food.

We will definitely go back to this campsite, it has everything we needed for a relaxing weekend for the parents, and a fun filled, grubby, fresh air, make-your-own-entertainment weekend for the kids. ACE!

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this site and it is one of the best sites we have visited! It is so picturesque, well kept, clean and tidy. Fantastic!

On our arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our pitch. You need to leave a £10 refundable deposit for the 'key card' which lifts the barrier into the site and lets you in to the toilet / shower blocks, it's very secure!

We were on a pitch with EHU (£20 per night mid-season and no extra charged for electric used) The pitch we were given was behind the toilet / shower block and we honestly did not have any problems with people walking past our tent to use the facilities.

The showers were brilliant, lots of hot water and very powerful. Toilets were clean. There were only two pot washing sinks at our end of the site but strangely enough I didn't have to queue to use them once, even on the Friday and Saturday when the site had got busy.

The village is very pretty. The pub just outside the site entrance, The Coach House Inn, served gorgeous food. We visited Whitby which was about half an hours drive away and also Hutton-le-Hole which was about 10 minutes up the road.

On the Friday evening the site did get quite noisy as there were lots of children playing around. They were no bother though, very well behaved and even our 2 year old son made a couple of little friends!

I can't say what time the site quietened down on the Friday night because when I went to bed at about 10pm it was still quite loud but I managed to fall asleep. Up until the Friday there were only a few tents around us so we had a lovely peaceful start to our break.

We will definitely be returning to this site in the future!

Spent 4 nights whit week end, fabulous site. It was our first visit but it will not be the last. Showers & toilets spotless a small stream runs through the site which keeps the children happy.

The pub is just outside the entrance serves good meals and beer the site was full with a good friendly atmosphere. The pitch we had was large with ehu. We had a large tent plus kitchen tent 2 cars and still had plenty of room

All in all very quiet at night, a very clean and well kept site. Would recommend this site. Fantastic views and walks.

What a stunning place! Play area for the children, and the stream that runs through the site keeps the kids / husband entertained for hours (if it wasn't for the typical British weather)

The toilet blocks were nice and clean, the showers were lovely and thermostatically controlled not the push button type.

We took the kids/Dog on a walk straight from the campsite which walks you through fields of sheep and cows which was quite fun if not a little scary!

We were so impressed with this site that we have re-booked for next month.

The village is beautiful, the 2 pubs are now down to one but it is very friendly and the food was lovely.

We took a walk up the steep hill to find the other pub closed but still benches to sit on and enjoy the view and 2 friendly horses who liked a carrot!

We enjoyed trips into Pickering and had a fab time at Dalby Forest and Scarborough (the weather was good).

Our pitch was right on the stream next to the rope swing, very pretty but kids playing on it until 10pm some evenings making the pitch very noisy, with no privacy and loads of kids running about.

Showers were awful, constantly dirty (probably after the kids had been in the stream), little to no water pressure and one night no water at all which we discovered once we had 2 naked young children.

I also found the wash up area small, only 2 sinks for quite a large site.

Staff were however helpful, and quick to respond when no water was reported.

I wouldn't however visit again.

Another great weekend on this site. After reading several reviews we had expected standards to have slipped but not at all. Site was up to same high standard as we have always found.

Very helpful staff, toilets always immaculate and pitches in very good condition even though we are at the end of a very wet season.

The coach pub outside site always has a friendly welcome, unlike the pub on chimney bank, but views up there are worth it.

We have used this site many times and will continue to do so in future as the scenery and fantastic walks are well worth it.

We found Rosedale to be a fabulous site helped by the wonderful location and helpful friendly staff we visited on a bank holiday weekend and the site was busy ! The amenities were good with two very spacious blocks with showers and toilets which are cleaned twice daily and a small laundry area. There is a park for the kids and a large area for playing ball games. The dog walk is fantastic but a little steep ! There is a small stream that runs through the park which our kids had hours of fun in ! There are two pubs within walking distance we sampled both and they are both very good. Two shops within walking distance which are very good. There is no phone signal on this site which I found brilliant just total peace and quiet however there is a payphone at the entrance to the park. The secruity is quite good as well with a barrier at the entrance which you can only open with a smart card provided by the park (£10 deposit returned on departure)

Overall the site was fab we will be returning next year sooner if possible !

Just got back from spending the bank holiday weekend here with friends. It was our first visit and we really enjoyed it. We stayed in the end 'meadow' which was really pretty and the kids spent hours playing by the river and at the park. The showers and toilets were cleaned twice daily whilst we were there and there was always toilet roll.

Was quite expensive as due to our 12 man tent we had to pay for a pitch and a half, but we felt it was worth it and will be definitely be going back.

Stayed August 2009. Lovely area, fantastic views and a really pretty village location. Having said all this we were disappointed with the actual site. On arrival we were met with a pleasant reception but on being escorted to our pitch we found the rules on where to park our car and where to pitch our tent a little strict and quite pointless to the site management, yet they made us feel awkward.

It did not help that we were placed next to the foot-path to the toilet/shower block and how they requested we pitched caused issues with our guy ropes being tripped over constantly particularly after dark, which was not only quite dangerous but extremely annoying, and needless, as if we had been left to set up our own way this would not have been an issue.

We found the toilet and shower block constantly dirty, hooks missing and very little space plus the water temperature and pressure was terrible, so showering was not a very nice experience.

There seemed to be very few staff about and on asking one where the dog walk was, we were met with a blank expression and then were given vague directions, it seemed like he was unsure himself. However it was worth finding as it was a smashing little dog walk with a lovely bench at the top of the hill and was extremely well kept, in fact the grass and landscaping of the whole site and play area was very good.

This site should be a great place to stay and the village is really nice, particularly the pub a few yards from the entrance (well worth a visit), however the basics on site - loos, showers and washing up areas were very poor. Also be aware it's a noisy site, loud music was played and was ignored by staff and not sure what time it's supposed to become quite but it was the early hours before we had peace.

Considering the above, we also think the site is very expensive and have stayed at far better, cheaper sites.

We enjoyed our trip, but it's doubtful we will return to this site, but if you do and you are in a tent and want electric, please refuse the pitch next to the path to the showers.
