Just got back from a short mid week stay at this site. The site was almost empty on out visit which suited us completely. All facilities were very clean and modern.
Fantastic views and location, no noise, light pollution and very little road noise.
Owners were only seen when we booked in( which suited us)
Good pitches well set out and loads of EHU points.
A really good base, if you want a great meal go a little further back towards Pateley bridge to the Bridge inn, very friendly and fantastic food, also they start serving at 6 pm ( an hour earlier than the more local pubs) good if you have little ones.
All in all a great place and we would use again.

There are other campsites I’ve stayed at that do certain, individual things better than Studfold Farm, but as a total package Studfold Farm is vying for the position of my favourite family campsite.
Nestled in Upper Nidderdale the views from the campsite are beautiful, even when the sun isn’t shining, and the drive to the campsite was a most rewarding one as we took in the scenery. It is a five-minute walk from the nearest hamlet of Lofthouse that has little more than houses and a pub (apparently there is also a Post Office / small shop). It’s over eight miles to the nearest town of Pately Bridge and over twenty miles to a town of any size, Harrogate. Some may find this remoteness a deterrent but I find it to be one of the campsite’s strengths; it’s so tranquil and there’s barely any light pollution at night. There is a small shop on site that sells some very basic provisions and milk can be ordered. But it will require a trek if you require more substantial provisions.
When you arrive and pay for your stay (I do wish that more sites had a policy of settling accounts at the end of your stay) you are given your allocated pitches. As a rule I don’t like marked, allocated pitches; it seems to be a little too regimented. However it does guarantee a certain distance between pitches and the pitch sizes at Studfold are fairly generous, especially as we were able to park in the car park and not next to the tent. There are two fields with EHU available on the first, larger field. Also located by the first field are toilet, shower and washing-up facilities. In the gents there were three sinks, two urinals, WCs and two showers, all of which were clean, modern and of a high standard. What was particularly impressive was that each shower had an anti-room. This allowed a relatively dry area in which to get dressed and meant that the whole procedure was less cramped; especially welcome if you are taking young children with you. We never had any problems with hot water but I had to queue for the shower once when the site was nowhere-near full (we went mid-week); at weekends the number of showers would, I suspect, be inadequate. There are two washing-up sinks which, again, is one too-few and there was queuing on more than one occasion. All of these facilities were clean and well-maintained.
We were on the second field which did not have EHU. Included in the second field was a spacious area reserved for children to play games. This was so welcome. Too many campsites prefer to cram in as many tents as possible leaving little room for children to play without getting too close to tents. There were also other areas that the children could explore safely, messing in the long grass and making dens. Flowing past the site is a river and there is access to a path by the river from the upper field. There was a lovely, peaceful atmosphere on the campsite and the evenings were tranquil.
Even though the campsite is just outside the National Park there is lots to see and do in the area though, given the remoteness of the campsite, most are at least a forty-minute drive away. We went to Stump Cross Caverns, Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks. If we had been there longer we would also have visited Bolton Abbey but we’ve been once before. Brimham rocks, in particular, makes for a very inexpensive family day out; for a £4 parking fee the kids can be set free to explore and climb, but keep close to the younger ones! There is a café selling sandwiches, pasties ice-cream, but no covered area to eat. Fountains Abbey demands a full day, partly because there is so much to see and partly because it’s not cheap (~£27 for two adults and four children). You can buy meals or take a picnic. The monks certainly knew where to build their monasteries and the ruins and water gardens made for a lovely day that the kids really enjoyed. Other campers I met had travelled as far as Malham for a day trip.
However, if you don’t want to drive so far there are walks of varying difficulty to be had around the area. Also the campsite has developed a nature discovery trail for the younger children, though there is a charge for this.
Are there any downsides? Inevitably! There was a £5 tariff for a kitchen tent! It was no surprise to me that I didn’t see one kitchen tent all week. The only other thing that may put some people off is the midges which come at you with knives and forks! But, so deep in the countryside, it is only to be expected and is not much of a price to pay, all things considered.
I really want to give Studfold Farm 10/10. And I may later regret not doing so. There’s beautiful scenery, plenty to go out and see and it’s a wonderfully relaxing place. But 10/10 is a perfect score; one extra shower per gender, one extra washing-up sink and a different charging structure for kitchen tents and this site would be perfect. As it is, I recommend Studfold at least as highly as any other I have stayed at and more highly than the vast majority.

Wow! We have just come back from a fantastic camping holiday in the Yorkshire Dales. Studfold Farm is a fantastic campsite for all ages and all sizes of tents. Each pitch is clearly marked and the grounds are well maintained. The toilets are very clean, even offering little steps for younger children to reach the taps. There are only two showers for each sex, which was a slight problem on the weekend but just right in the week. The owners were friendly and very helpful on local knowledge. If you need supplies, do not rely on the campsite or Lofthouse. The nearest place is Pately Bridge. The scenery from the site is perfect and though the site was quite busy at the weekend, did not get too noisy. The major problem for us was the midges. They were everywhere and made sitting out on an evening unbearable. However, I guess that's what you should expect from camping in August next to a stream! There are plenty of walks from the campsite that take in the Nidderdale Way and more adventurous footpaths. Brimham Rocks is a fantastic day out - in fact we only used the car on two out of seven days.
It was a perfect place to unwind and marvel at the Dales' beauty.

Fantastic site, lovely area for walks and cycling, a bit off the beaten track but that is what we like, peace and quiet away from it all and the site certainly delivers - your mobile phone won't work so no getting disturbed while you have a few days rest! Owners were very friendly, but agree with another reviewer that they aren't around much, the reception / shop could be staffed a little more.
Entrance to the gorge next to the site is a bit overpriced, but they do have a lovely cafe if you want to walk around for breakfast. Cycle or walk up to the reservoir, Scar House, across the dam and all the way round, there's some interesting history about it's construction.
Will definitely go back.

We booked this site at short notice - 2 x adults 4 x children in one 6 berth tent for 3 days/2 nights mid week. We had researched the area thoroughly and the remote location with good walking potential, close to some attractions, near a couple of pubs (more on that in a bit) appealed.
First contact on the phone was very polite and helpful, encouraging our visit by highlighting children's activities - including the newly opened nature trail.
Arrival was a little chaotic - no-one seemed to know that we were coming - and we were sent to find a suitable pitch and report back.
The site is split over two main areas - caravans near the farm and tents over the river. The tent site is then split into two decent sized fields, one with marked pitches and hookups, the top field consisting of 'free' pitches and a ball playing area (no park or swings). The pitch sizes would be tight when the site is full but we enjoyed plenty of space even in high season. Complete with a very good wash area and toilet block (free showers & plenty of hot water) the site is very well presented.
We found our fellow campers very pleasant, all chatted, kids got on well etc. And experienced no noise or disturbance - especially after 10.00pm.
Top tips:
Only two washing up points - go early.
How Stean Gorge - good but expensive.
The Crown in Lofthouse is child friendly contrary to other reviews; charming, slightly eccentric but very hospitable and courteous landlord - great food and great beer.
Take plenty of food - site shop is very limited in scope and next nearest shops are in Pateley Bridge.
Walking the Nidderdale Way to Scar House Reservoir is a must - great views!

Had an amazing time at studfold farm. The pitch was well looked after and the toilet block was much better than most other large campsites I have been to. They were very clean and tidy and the washing up facilities were also very well thought out! I unfortunately forgot my tent pegs which could have been a total disaster if it wasn't for the owners putting themselves out to try and help us - luckily for us he had a spare set which he lent us! would like to say a big thank you to him!
The how stean gorge just 2 minutes walk away was amazing and lots of fun and I would highly recommend going!
The only downside was the midges in the evening but that goes hand in hand with the countryside!
Cant wait to return and will definitely recommend this site.

This is a beautiful site with the smartest toilet and shower facilities I have seen.
We were allocated a pitch on arrival which seemed generous in size but once the site started to fill up, we found that we were very close to other campers and tents.
There is a field for families and groups which my suit us better.
One thing to watch out for are the midges - there were thousands of the things and they bite!
We had a fantastic time looking round Pateley Bridge and up to Brimham Rocks which we definitely recommend. The same cannot be said for the pub in the nearby village (the one up the steep hill) unfortunately. We arrived for a meal as the pub opened and were the first to order but had to wait a staggering hour for our meal. Our young boys were nearly eating the table in hunger and frustration and when the food arrived it was not worth the wait.
That aside, we had a lovely weekend and would visit this site again.

This is a fantastic campsite. We spent two nights here. We have never experienced such clean and well kept facilities. Pitches well marked. Great hill for children to roll down and plenty of space to play ball games.
How Stean Gorge is a 5 minute walk away with a great cave for exploring and some fantastic walks along a very slippery river bank.

Just had a 5 day stay at this site . It is perfect as a base for walking and exploring the surrounding areas , Pateley Bridge is a lovely little town ( 8 miles from site)with a great park. The pitches are nice and level and it felt sheltered too. The toilets/showers and washing up facilities are very clean and within view of the pitches so the kids can go back and forth freely. The showers are hot and free and the ladies also have free hairdryers.
The owners were friendly and gave us some info on the local pubs etc. The shop is a bit half hearted so own supplys are needed!
The area really is beautiful and I would highly recommend a walk around scar house resevoir which is just outside Lofthouse before you reach the site (via a long narrow road about 10 min drive)there is a picnic area and loo's at the car park.
The site was quiet every night and very peaceful, just how we like it.
We didn't want to leave and have added it to our list 'must return'!
Only down sides are :
Watch out for the midges as the river runs along side the site we did get bitten a lot!
The price is a bit high at £23 per night for 2 adults and 3 children . But its is worth it if you want a small quiet family friendly site!

We stayed here for a long weekend with our caravan at the start of the school holidays in July. This is a lovely site and in a very peaceful, beautiful location. The toilet block is extremely clean and well kept, and there is also a spacious area for children to play ball games etc.
The owner regularly walked around the site to ensure all was ok and to deal with any concerns, and we certainly did not have any issues regarding noise etc as this was very quiet at all times!
We certainly plan to visit again later this year. Thanks for a great weekend!
