This site and Tower Hill are the only two sites within 10m walking distance of the town of Llangollen.

It’s a basic site that would not serve as introduction to camping for your undecided partner!

It has a mixture of tents and motorhomes in the field. Tents are £6 per adult and £4 per child if under 14 which seemed reasonable.

Pitches are unmarked and although new arrivals generally kept 12 feet apart on the lower field; they were quite close near the EHU areas and in the middle top field.

The Entrance road is single track with passing places and it rises up some steep hills that are a little foreboding when travelling downhill in heavy rain.

It’s a working farm, so the shower toilets are your typical outbuilding type affair: aged tiles and walls needing a lick of paint. My son took one look on arrival and wrinkled his nose at it.

There are only two showers which may seem optimistic for some 30 pitches, but I never saw much of a queue. Perhaps not a lot of people were keen to use them? Hot water for the showers is 20p for 6 mins. Who wants to open the cubicle to put another 20p in?

There is reception room, normally locked, but a bell is generally responded to. There is a large freezer that you can deposit ice packs (20p per pack per night)

The site is surrounded by distant hills and really needs good weather to be appreciated, otherwise the grass, being on an incline can get slippy for car tyres and with a day of rain can get very muddy near the farm gate entrance.

There is a basic play area (just a basic wooden frame) and not much else for kids - i. E. No separate playfield, streams or woods. So many children are forced to play ball games in areas that are close to tents and aren’t really suitable for them or for the other campers!

As the whole field rises on an incline – be careful where you place your pillow – you don’t want blood running to your head! It can makes you feel disorientated when you first stand up in the morning and can make level cooking a challenge.

As it’s a farm, you will get the usual early morning noise but its not that bad – compared to some farms I’ve pitched on. In fact, the loudest noise tends to come from nesting birds in the trees that line the perimeter that like to sing at 4am!

Like many sites there is a no-noise policy (for humans) after 10. 00pm, but as the farmhouse is not overlooking the field, the policing is really down to the campers themselves.

Pitches along the edge tend to be people who want to be quiet and remote. Those who like to pitch on the hill and in the middle enjoy the closeness and chattiness and as a result tend to generate the most noise. If you are on EHU, then you will be closer to this noise than non-EHU. Perhaps I’ve just discovered tent pitching psychology?

Langollen itself is a small town. There are Steam train rides. On Bank Holidays they run ‘Thomas the Tank’ (£15 adults, £10 Children for a 7 mile trip to Carrog and back). There is also a horse-drawn barge (£6 adult, £3 child for 45 mins). Although there are a few shops in Llangollen, it won’t really fill more than half a day of your time.

I can’t comment on the town's eating places, as I drove to the Berwynn arms on the A5 (about 15 mins away) and a family pup near Wrexham as the local places were small and tended to be packed – although that could have been due to the poor weather.

All in all, not a bad site - but you need the weather to make it child friendly.

We were given a pitch next to the hard standing pitches due to the amount of rain

The site is basic for the price have to say never paid more than 3 or 4 quid for EHU and its 6 quid here

Showers were so so could do with a lick of paint

Toilets were kept clean, other than that its not a bad site situated just a small roll into Llangollen.

The noise from the barn well can only put it down to Lambing season (would have been a problem only I had Laptop on earphones. I will say it gets cold up on the site due to the altitude so wrap up warm

We camped in our tent at Easter just when it had snowed so it was really cold, although the campsite was still surprisingly busy. Fortunately, we found that the spot we where in was next to the tree borders so we were well sheltered and the very hot showers were a welcome relief from the cold, albeit the 20p charge for the shower was a bit awkward as we had to make sure we had lots of change available. The rest of the facilities were basic but adequate. The slope on the field means there are only a few tent pitches that were fairly level, but they were all taken, so it made the stay a little awkward having pitched the tent on the slope. This also meant when it rained, it was hard to get the car up the wet grass without going it a mad wheelspin. The location of the site also means that it is quite a steep and exposed walk into Llangollen so you may have to drive if the weather is against you. The owners are very friendly though and the prices are pretty reasonable. Overall not too bad at all.

Visited the site during the barmy late September of 2011 - yes, you will all remember this, 29 degrees in October.

Visited this site as a last minute diversion from the lakes which seemed to forecast rain - and a great decision it was.

The site is not a bad drive and not too far from Wrexham and the roads pretty good until the last mile which becomes single file.

I will echo most of what has already been posted here. The site itself is set on the side of a hill overlooking the Dee valley and Llangollen. Its a working farm site, not a 'professional' site and so expect basic facilities, which they are.

Wasn't too busy so not a problem. Washing up is basic but very hot water. Shower seemed to run forever for 20p and nice and hot. Toilets ran out of paper. Cant comment on the ladies.

The site has a level caravan field which was really nice and then the camping field, which we stayed in. Dont under estimate how sloping this field is. We were in an average family tent and so we had to pick carefully, right in the centre. That said, not too far from the facilities. Small play areas for the kids.

The site wasn't too busy on the Friday but was very busy on the Saturday. On the Saturday there was a DofE party present and a 4X4 meeting. There was a lot of noise and this seemed to be unquestioned.

Apart from the edges which were used by electric hookups, there is no obvious pitching policy so some campers were a bit close but again, I like the light touch from the owners as I like to choose my own pitch but other campers should really think a bit more when they set up.

As mentioned earlier, its a working farm, so expect the smells and noises but as far as the kids and I are concerned, this is a plus rather than a negative.

The location is glorious. Llangollen is a delightful mountain village with lovely shops, a great steam engine attraction, canal and beautiful river. Co-op and Spar together with newsagents and a few bars and restaurants for the evening. I went walking into the Berwyns too, which was about an hours drive.

Overall, a nice little site which could do with a little updating of the facilities and perhaps a little more light rules from the owners. Nevertheless, I think campers need to have a look around and consider their own actions as self management would be far better than a rigid site management policy. We would probably visit again.

That said, I would camp anywhere when we have such special weather as we had this weekend, in October!

After trying to camp on several sites on a Friday night, it was nice to be met by a smiling face who welcomed us (four 40 somethings on motorbikes).

We paid £8 ea. For the night, pitched and headed off into town, hopefully returning very quietly around 2am!?

There are two main fields one level with a few statics and touring pitches, the other a larger camping field which unfortunately does have sloping issues in some areas.

I stay on a lot of sites in my motorhome and usually go for larger sites with more facilities - all charging a lot more. But this a great basic family camping site - without the fussy rules and ceremony.

The facilities were all clean and fairly basic with my only issue being a lack of soap in the dispensers. Nice location on a farm, and a short walk to town although its worth a taxi back.

We tried many of the pubs in town the chippy kebab shop and Bensons bar where we had breakfast in the morning too.

If you want a good late, rough and ready pub, with good music, walk up to the lights where the A5 is, turn left and its a few hundred yards on the left - and it never seems to close!

We stayed here for one night early July. Claire met us on arrival, so friendly and chatty. Lovely site, perfectly situated a short walk into Llangollen town centre, lovely town with some great shops, the fruit and veg shop on the main street sell gorgeous peaches!Of course the steam railway is worth a visit! Stunning views from the site. Excellent walks around Llangollen and along the canal. Facitlies are basic but clean. The tent field looked to be on a slope but it didn't seem to bother the campers! It is a working farm so its great to see everybody going about their daily work! All in all a lovely site and great value for money.

Just stayed here last weekend for 2 nights, myself and my 2 children aged 8 and 6 and our dog Bella!

We had a lovely time! Claire (the owner) was very relaxed and helpful. Told us to pitch up first and pay later as she was busy putting horses out!

Although the weather was predicted to be bad we only had a few showers on the Saturday so chanced our luck and walked down the hill into Llangollen. It is a beautiful friendly town, my children enjoyed watching the steam trains but enjoyed the horse drawn barge trip even more. For 45 minutes a very reasonable £6 adult and £3 child, the same price as the campsite!

I then walked the children along the canal in the Wrexham direction for approx 3 miles until we found the Sun Trevor pub! Another child and dog friendly welcome and an adequate play area!

The play area on site was very small but everyone seemed to enjoy it and there were lots of families so all the children tended to play together!

The only down side was the slope of the field. I felt drunk before I'd even had a drop!

Overall a lovely, quiet, family friendly site close to a fantastic location!

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at wern isaf with 2 kids aged 5 and 1 years, the campsite itself is very pleasant and the sounds of the animals very therapeutic!

The children made some lovely friends and had fun playing on the play area and hiding in bushes etc.

Took a walk into llangollen on the second day with the pushchair and child on bike and me and the kids struggled to get back up the steep hill but the sights in the village were lovely and the park along the river with cafe and toilet facilities is great! we also visited the corn mill pub for some lunch on sunday which was gorgeous but quite expensive we felt worth it though.

The shower block was always lovely and clean and the longest I had to wait was 5 mins, washing up facilities fine to.

There is no on site shop but this was ok for us as we had taken everything we needed (except pump for airbed which another camper kindly lent us)and there was also a spar is the village.

Pony rides in the evening were lovely for the kids too. I would highly recommend this site for young families. Overall no complaints, and at forty five quid for 3 nights was fab! we will certainly be going back.

My family have just returned from a great bank holiday stay at Wern Isaf Farm. We have 2 small children, and visited in our touring caravan with 2 other families - one with tent, one with trailer tent. This site has everything we needed - clean (although basic) toilet and shower facilities. Showers always lovely and hot (20p gets you about 7 mins). Loo roll ran out a couple of times but it was a bank holiday weekend. Unlike other reviews there was plenty of space between pitches - we were instructed where to pitch by the owners so perhaps they have read previous comments! Farmers daughter has organised pony rides in the evenings which all the children loved. Play area basic but the kids weren't bothered - they loved watching the cows and sheep (and baby lambs being bottle fed this morning). Will definitely be returning - lovely owners - great scenery - within walking distance to town (although steep!).

We stayed here for the August bank holiday weekend and had a great time.

We booked knowing where it was positioned in Llangollen and intended to do lots of walking (of which we certainly did!)

The owners were so helpful and went out their way to help us.

The toilets/showers are very basic (as advertised). If they updated these facilities it would be an advantage.

There isn't an on-site shop (as advertised) which was a bit disappointing and the play area wasn't really a playarea so again that was a shame as we have a little girl who loves playgrounds.

Overall, I would certainly book to return and have no complaints.
