Friendly, very helpful welcome, shown to our pitch which was in a great location. A field next to the woods and pastures with horses in, good size plot as my new tent was bigger than expected.
Showers were clean and hot hair-dryers free and plenty of toilets and pot washes. There is a shop, a takeaway, laundrette, games room, playground etc. Wykham pub serving food and a lovely tea room great cakes (yum) minutes away. Boys hired a bike £5 for afternoon, great, kept them out my hair - peaceful afternoon to read and take in country side!
I had one complaint while there the tent next to me were very rude and talked until 12 with no consideration, the staff were quick to deal with it and even checked next day to see if there were any problems !
If your visiting this end of the country it's a fantastic location for Scarborough, Whitby Pickering, Thorton le dale, Malton, Filey and York. Yes maybe more expensive than other sites but well worth the cost

We had just the one night here but wish it had been longer. Very impressed with site, service and facilities. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Great cafe on site, had full English breakfast, kept us going all day.
Will definitely return and plan to bring our grandchildren with us. The play area for them looks superb.
We were given a wide choice of pitches from grass to hard standing in the adults only section so ended up with a large pitch, although all pitches seem to be of ample size.
The site is split into terraces so although it is a large site you do not feel overwhelmed.
There are plenty of toilet blocks around, which are very clean. The shower cubicles are large and the showers hot and powerful. There are some baths in the ladies blocks and large sinks for washing little ones.
The site is just off the main Scarborough to Pickering road and there are bus stops just outside, which is great if, like us, you prefer to get the bus into town.
Scarborough and Pickering all within easy reach.
Overall very happy with St Helens, although I notice that the price really does jump up in high season and bank holidays.
Anyway St Helens is well up on our list of preferred sites.

We have just spent a great weekend at St Helens. Three adults and three kids aged 5, 8,and 10 in two tents on the field with the play area. This site has all we could want. Plenty of play space for the kids, the play area visible from our tents, spacious pitches that drained well in the rain. Our pitch did not have a hookup but there is another camping area on site which may do. The showers and loos were close to tents and were never busy. They always were clean and had plenty of hot water. Dishwashing areas were clean and had plugs too. It was quiet at 10pm as per site rules which gave us all a good nights sleep.
The staff were friendly and helpful and kept everywhere clean. Security was good too the site having a barrier with electronic passes.
We did not use the shop or cafe as we were off to Whitby and Scarborough every day but did pop down to see the alpaca's by the dog walking circuit.
We didn't visit the local village which would only be a few minutes walk but there is a decent Spar supermarket and garage in East Ayton a couple of miles away and all Scarborough's shops about 6 miles off. There is plenty to do in the area, Pickering with steam trains, Flamingo Land and Eden Camp and great countryside and beaches.
We had a great time and will be back as soon as holidays allow.

We visited St Helens for a period of 4 days, arriving on my birthday, we found the reception on arrival very nice.
The toilets and shower blocks were a plenty and nice and warm and clean, the shop was supposed to be open but was not.
Scarborough and Filey (about 30 minutes to either) are not that far away and we loved visiting both towns, we in fact will be booking a pitch again at St Helens in the not too distant future as we have lots more to do in a very lovely area of North Yorkshire.

We spent a week here and to be honest we were really disappointed. We had 3 children with us (13, 10 and 1 and a half) and were put on the play tent field (no choice) which was extremely noisy at night due to the large amount of older children playing and shouting until 10pm (some rude football songs were heard one night). The field was very soggy with a dirt track leading to the edge which you had to regularly vacate at a moments notice due to the endless stream of staff on buggies / tractors going around the site. The tents were far too close together on this field and although our neighbours weren't overly noisy, you could hear their conversations! No electric hook ups. Shop/cafe ok and was useful for bacon butties!
Toilet blocks were basic. Not altogether clean. Due to the muddy fields they could have done with extra mats to mop up dirty feet at the entrances. Baby facilities consisted of a large ceramic sink or a changing station. Launderette ok but tumble dryer not particularly good and v expensive. No bin in washing up area which resulted in lots of food being left in plant pots or even in the sink.
The weather was atrocious for our week which didn't help and the campsite flooded one night which is nobody's fault but no staff came to check we were ok on the tent field.
Will not be staying here again although will be visiting the surrounding area which is fantastic.
If you are staying here take your wellies and ear plugs if staying on the tent field.

We visited St Helens Mon-Fri after the august bank holiday. The staff were really friendly and helpful on arrival and showed us to our pitch, which I have to say was excellent. The site is very large and is split into various different levels.
The facilities are excellent. There is a shop, a takeaway, laundrette, games room, playground etc. The toilet / shower blocks are plentiful and were always very clean. The showers were spacious and the water was always hot. We found the baby bath facilities in the ladies toilets most useful as we took our 21 month old daughter. The dishwashing facilities were also very clean.
The site itself was very clean and tidy. The bins were regularly emptied, grass was cut twice while we were there and there always seemed to be a good staff presence on site.
There are security barriers on exit/access (which you are given a security pass) and there is a warden on duty at night.
We were worried about our daughters first camping trip however she had a great time. There were plenty of children on site and we worried initially about getting her to sleep, but by 9pm it was really quiet meaning some adult relaxing time.
We have been camping to many sights around the country and for me I would have to say that this is the best I have visited. I also thought that the prices were reasonable.
I would definitely recommend this site to anyone, with/without children.

I will be returning to this site. Ideal location for the coast and some extremely beautiful countryside. Tents and tourers are kept separate which I don't usually like but it works here. Some tents are at the back of the site next to a disused train track which is now a beautiful walk and others are located in the front of the site edging a large field which also sites an amazing play area probably more suitable for over 5s. It is quite a distance from some of the caravans however so younger children would need to be accompanied. The dog walk is awesome! Llamas and Jacob sheep are penned in along the walk which opens onto a heathland of willow herb that is actually a newly planted forest. The games room however is a little worse for wear and seems slightly out of place in a lovely well kept and quiet site.I would recommend this site though I wouldn't opt for hardstanding as the pitches seemed less spacious.

Very nice site, facilities immaculate - cannot fault at all.
Great kids play area / dog walk -look out for the friendly Llamas!
Friendly staff, nice surroundings and close to Scarborough.
Only criticism is that there is quite a bit of road noise (it didnt bother us) but it may some people.
Would definitely return here.

Just returned after 4 day break at St Helens. Had a great time and much needed rest. Although the site was large it was very quiet clean and well kept. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We certainly be back.

We stayed for 3 nights after May Bank holiday.
The site is deceptively big and has plenty of very clean toilet and shower blocks. Lots of washing up areas too.
I like the idea that the site offers an Adult section, which we stayed in. There was a lot of children on site and plenty for them to do as the play park had lots of swings, climbing frames etc for the children to do, Also large field next to the play park fpr ball games.
There is a shop / cafe on site (we never used) but the cafe offered breakfasts and meals in an evening should you require them. The cafe did look busy whenever we went past, so I would assume that is was good.
Only slight grumble for me was that the water in the showers was warm rather than hot.
I would recommend the site to anyone and would more than likely go back to the area again.
