Another stay at St Helen's. Things are changing on site. Rang to book but was shocked at the cost of a weeks stay.
They offer a good discount to older caravanners but not in school holidays. We had planned to visit a week earlier but something cropped up so decided on the week after but it was school holidays which we hadnt realised so said we would get back to them.
We talked it over & looking at some other sites they all do the same increase their prices because its school hols, so parents really do get screwed for more money.
Anyway after talking it through we decided that we would still go away so rang back. You cant leave a message if they don't pick up it just says we will get back to you, so at their end must show your tel number, anyway we rang 3 times for someone to get back to us but they didn't!
The following day I booked on line as getting no-where ringing the site. When we arrived we told them we had tried 3 times to get through & they did apologise but surely someone should be checking on calls to be answered.
Must say they were very welcoming, we knew which pitch we were on as you choose from whats left on the web page. It was fully serviced & very large pitch.
They had upgraded 2 of the toilet blocks which are mixed sex now since the last time we had been, individual rooms with loo/sink & shower & look lovely.
The main block nr reception is getting upgraded now so there were workmen while we were there but it didn't bother us as we went out every day.
I would say if your visiting while this work is still going on don't book the pitch nearest to reception as this is directly opposite where the builders are working.
There is also individual bathrooms, a small shop, a cafe which we did not use & info on the area.
The local bus which stops outside the site if you put your hand out going to Scarborough but think due to the winter timetable was only every 2 hrs.
We like St Helen's & will go again booking on line next time. I've given it a 10 for value for money which it is when you get the age discount & 10 for Customer Service while we were on site.

We booked this quite late as our previous weeks holiday in Wales was cancelled. Our contact was with "Haggis" as she was known so she helped us find a pitch to suit our needs. We arrived on Sunday 19th for seven nights.
A different receptionist was on duty so I asked if any other fully serviced pitch had become available -yes 99 so we decided great that will do.
What a good pitch size wise the only small issue was the bollard for this pitch was sited better for neighbouring pitch it just meant longer trailing hook up and water to get to my van.
Once settled we walked the site and found it to be very well kept and had various levels of pitches and style of pitches.
The toilet block nearest us was kept very clean but found the taps on the sinks stuck out over the wash basin so had to be careful not to crack your head.
Good showers BUT the water was way too hot having no adjustment (this we found was a general complaint from others including seasonal pitchers}
Small shop, launderette not used. Good link to public transport right outside.
So to summarise the site, well kept, good facilities, friendly helpful staff, good location to explore the area, good value and a very good play area for kids.
We found the nearby inn/hotel maybe good for food but a bit quiet for drink.
There is a good chance we will return to this site.

This site is so well thought out, very clean, spacious and extremely friendly welcome in the reception,
We have really enjoyed our stay and liked having a pub almost on site,
Pretty area and central to so many places to visit,
Can't wait to visit again.

We booked the caravan on a super pitch as our elderly parents were staying and we wanted to make it as easy as possible for them. The pitch was spacious, all weather (pebbles), with a water tap and waste water grate. We were able to book the OAP rate for them.
A few days into their stay they had a power outage, due to one of the light fittings shorting out, which tripped the fuse at the EHU point, the staff on site were brilliant and went above and beyond to help sort the problem out, and checked on them the following day to make sure all was well. This was very reassuring for us as we couldn't attend due to work commitments.
Access is via a coded security barrier.
The site is well maintained and the wardens were busy weeding and tidying the flower borders and keeping the grass short. The facilities are clean and have a good supply of hot water.
They have a number of camping pods on site. There is a cafe, shop, launderette along with a children's play area as well as a dedicated dog walk area which is huge. The Downe Arms Hotel & Tuckers Bar is a short walk past the camping field and through the woods.
There is a bus stop close to the site entrance giving easy access to Scarborough or Pickering, ask for a Day Rover Ticket, this will save you money and allows you to get on and off the bus all day, just scan your ticket when you get on. (The bus driver won't offer this ticket as a cheaper alternative!).
Lovely site very quiet and relaxing and it's open all year. The site offers seasonal pitches and caravan storage.

On arrival we were impressed by the wide entrance allowing you to park up safely while checking in.
The check in was great very friendly, and informative, we found every member of staff we spoke to were also helpful and friendly
The map we were given is very clear and we found our spacious fully serviced pitch (16 amp) easily.
The toilets were open but not the showers but that was expected, we can't comment on the facilities as we used our own. It was very peaceful during our stay (Sunday to Thursday) There are some lovely walks from the site and although it's just off the A170 (so easily accessible) the traffic noise wasn't a problem even though we were the nearest row to the road.
There is an excellent play area for those with children. The Downe arms pub is a few minutes walk away and although closed during our stay (open Friday, Saturday outside service only) looks a nice place and the menu looked reasonable.
Pickering is a few miles down the road with good independent shops and decent sized Lidl and a Co-op for stocking up. Thornton le dale is also not far away as is Scarborough in the other direction.
It's that great a place our daughter and family are going at the end of may she was so impressed by our photos she asked us to book for them before we left.
All in all a great stay in a lovely setting. Highly recommended.
