Just got back from another great holiday this was our second visit to the Meadows this year and it won't be the last.
The owners are the most accommodating people you will meet this is there first season at the meadows and are doing brilliant since our last visit 8 weeks ago we can see yet more improvements to already a great site there service is first class, the grounds are kept tidy, showers are warm clean, spacious, and powerful the owner keeps the grass well cut and stone free they will rent you a fire pit and set it up for you ready for a proper camping experience but these are limited so if you want one just book the to avoid disappointment as this is a great service, it is a great quiet site which is better suited to smaller family's
If they could control the weather they have cracked it
Book it and enjoy we cannot wait to spend all next summer there and more 10 out of 10

We arrived for 3 nights, but we left early. It was unfortunate that the site had been overwhelmed by rain just before we arrived and so though it was drying out, it was unpleasantly wet and spongy underfoot in the nicest spots to camp ( we wanted to be nearer stream/meadow). It was unfortunate but can imagine this will be a problem often bearing in mind how often it rains here in England. Cars were getting stuck.
I was told on booking that they hired firepits ( no campfire unless raised off ground) but when I arrived they had none left (' first come first served') but had I known they didn't have enough for all people coming or needed to booked, I would have booked. So no fire on first night.
And at 11. 30 at night, we were unfortunate enough to have neighbours that liked to laugh loudly, keep setting off some alarm, and burp. And laugh more.
Eventually they shut up, and then it was bliss and I could hear owls and the distant lapping of waves!
I think we were v unlucky ( ESP re neighbours) and it wasn't the main reason we left early, ( daughter bit unwell), as I have to say the owners were lovely and kind and understanding. It is their first season and I suspect it will get better, these are teething issues. Showers, toilets were IMMACULATE!
I think I wouldn't come if heavy rain was forecast because parts of the site are def prone to logging, though beautiful.
Yes, the road is noisy at times, but not at night or early morning.

Management response: We thank you for your feedback, and are pleased you enjoyed many aspects of your short stay, and we are sorry you had to cut your stay short.
Firepits - we have now purchased additional firepits, as we have been surprised at the demand. However, firepits are always so much more in demand when there is a fine evening. It is not practical for us to service firepits should every pitch require one only on fine evenings, so by doing first come first served, it means campers usually get one for some nights of their stay.
We would mention that "Maddeus" did arrive quite late on the first day so all firepits were then booked out. A booking for the remaining days of her trip was then made, paid for and then fully refunded to her when they left decided to leave early.
We are sorry that their camping neighbours did not follow our camping etiquette and that this disturbed their evening. This is a small and friendly site, and it is highly unusual for their to be problems with noise.
This visit was after heavy rain and Maddeus was shown drier spots higher up the field, but the family were set on pitching in the far end of the meadow, only recommended by ourselves in very dry weather. |

We normally use Caravan Club sites, but the toilet/shower facilities on this site were better than any CC site! The owners were very friendly and hard working - nothing was too much trouble for them.
Ideal site for walking/cycling to Heligan, St. Austell, Mevagissey and Pentewan Sands. Also close to the Eden Project.
Very laid back site and it was nice to see children playing and no-one telling them off!

On arrival the owners seemed to be very pleasant, we paid the balance and were shown to our pitch.
This is where the problem began. The site seemed to have had a great deal of rain, pitches were very water logged and flooded in places. We pitched the caravan as directed and decided to leave the awning for the time being as when standing at the side of our caravan the water was seeping up over our feet, there was also quite a large puddle in front of our van!
We drove into Mevagissey which seemed nice although there did not seem much to do. There were plenty of eating places; the Indian we sampled later was lovely!
After our first night the ground seemed no different so we decided to move. When I told the owner she was quite rude and said that perhaps camping was not for us and that everyone else was happy! Although, the previous day she had commented that she would not camp in these conditions herself but would book a B&B! My only comment to her was that I felt that a courtesy phone call would have been nice to inform us of the condition of the ground, as if we had had our dogs or children with us where would they have slept as they normally sleep in the awning? Her reply was that everyone else was managing; even though her husband was having to tow people off the grass with his 4x4!
On a bright note there is a new shower / toilet block that was to a very high standard. The owners also sell breakfast baguettes and coffee and cake on their decking which I thought was a nice touch.
After paying for the week here we then moved to a much nicer, non water logged site. We obviously won't be visiting again and would not recommend it to anyone purely because of the owners attitude.

Management response: "Lynn and John are sorry that mark and Sarah did not enjoy their short stay with us. They arrived in torrential rain, which was the end of a forecasted weather event. However, a caravan with awning had left the pitch that morning, and would have booked for 2014 had we been taking bookings! The pitch was also picked the next day by a family with a caravan and awning, who enjoyed glorious sunshine for the week and again were very happy indeed. The pitch was an electric hook up grass pitch with "grass protecta" for hard standing. The rain was not going to drain away anywhere until it stopped, and it finally stopped the day after.
My comments about others were in the context that it was different people's expectations, when bad weather occurred. At the same time, there were lots camping in the camping field in tents, without hook up, or grass protecta and were still smiling and happy despite setting up in a torrential downpour with children and dogs. Yes our hardy campers probably did take priority with our time and assistance, that weekend, but in fact they were all prepared and enjoyed what turned out to be a lovely sunny week. It is difficult with a natural site but we find the majority are our campers take the good with the bad and come prepared.
The view I expressed was they for an advance booking that may be they had picked the wrong type of site.
As for the B&B as the weather forecast ahead was so good, I was merely expressing my admiration for the tent campers setting up in such torrential rain that was set in for the day, and that may be I would have been tempted to delay setting up until the next day.
Any camper being pulled out, was a result of not acting on our advice to stay higher up the field during the weather event, as they wanted to experience wild camping. We were indeed thanked for pulling them out at no charge, and for the assistance we gave.
We have been flexible with our campers letting them delay the start of their holiday in bad weather, and giving bad weather refunds on merit. However, on this occasion it was frustrating that we had lots of happy tent campers camping in the camping field in the torrential rain and our unhappy customer was in a caravan on a grass protecta pitch where flip flops not wellies were still adequate.
We cannot control the weather, and we are a natural site in a valley, with grass protecta on all of our electric pitches. This couple had booked in advance for a week and we had turned lots of other bookings away. A reduced amount had already been accepted on arrival, as we were informed they would have to return a day early for work commitments. We assess situations individually and it was our decision as owners that a refund was not appropriate.
As for there being not much to do in Mevagissey, I feel a different view may have been had if they had stayed and visited there, and the many other beautiful places during the sunny week our guests then enjoyed.
Finally, our motto is keep smiling and carry on camping, as a holiday is what you make of it."

The owners are charming and work hard to keep the site spotless. The only reason I would not return is that the traffic noise disturbed me. It quietens down at night but it took away from the feeling of getting away from it all. Despite living in London, we live in a very quiet cul-de-sac with no sound but birdsong and I just couldn't get used to it. Also despite the owners assuring me that there were dog friendly beaches in walking distance, there were not. The beautiful beach which is in walking distance does not allow dogs and the nearest one they directed us to was a SERIOUS hike of several hours along very steep coastal paths. I'm afraid even the dogs threw in the towel and we never made it. We had to take turns going to the beach and with only the two of us, it rather took the shine off. However, if you don't have dogs and you are accustomed to traffic sounds it is a great little site. They have really made it attractive. I think the highlight was the breakfast baguettes. The loo and shower blocks were some of the best I've seen. There are lovely walks and the owners are very helpful when mapping out routes though possibly a little optimistic about how long they take and level of fitness required.

Really really wish I could give a 100% positive review as the owners of this site are obviously trying are so hard!
The positives: Lovely small campsite, beautiful planted area around shower block, good location for a walk to the beach, yummy breakfast baguettes.
The negatives: When we arrived our pitch was underwater and part of it was being dug up to be drained so we had to set up camp close to the road and borrow an extension for electricity, although part of the tent still flooded. Owner just said 'we couldn't find your number and didn't know if you were a campervan or not or we would have let you know'. Not sure what the point of booking is if that was the case? Totally appreciate the rain has caused chaos but I don't think we would have travelled 5 hours if we'd have known how bad it was. We were also reminded that it would usually be £2 a night to rent the extension ha!
Showers were hot 90% of the time but my boyfriend did have a cold one on one morning. Would maybe be an idea to put hand dryers in the shower block?
Road noise is noticeable during the day but not at all at night.
All in all we made the best of it and can't fault how much effort the owners are putting in to do all the added extras of cakes, breakfasts etc. But maybe take slow steps and work on the basics first.

Management response: Thank you very much for the positive and negative feedback, all of which we have taken on board.
It was unfortunate that your trip fell towards the end of extreme rain, and indeed there was 24 hours of torrential rain the day after you arrived.
The pitch was a large pitch, and so we tried to pitch you the best we could in the drier area. Yes, this was nearer to our camp road, than the stream, but on grass protecta, but not all tents on site stood up to the rain.
Electric lead - the lead we hire out is the 3 pin RCD lead, not extensions, which we lend out free of charge. Sorry if you misunderstood, as we know in the end you had your own 3 pin tent lead.
We feel we have to comment on the "basics". We purchased this site on 31 January of this year. It was described by Martin Dorey (campervan cookbook man) as then being no more than an illegal gypsy caravan graveyard.
For 12 weeks, we concentrated solely on the basics, of clearing the site (huge task), bringing the electrics to standard, replacing the plumbing & drainage systems, laying a road and grass protecta on all electric pitches. We delayed opening until 1 May, but then the groundwork had to stop whilst we were open for business for our customers to have an undisturbed stay. We then concentrated on the details, such as breakfast baguettes & homemade cakes, planting up, and putting some colour and personality in to the site, as we wanted our campers to have a great experience.
Hand-dryers - we change our hand towels around four times daily.
Please note that our prices have remained the level charged by the previous owner for 2013 being the price for very basic camping in this location. This is even though we have already made considerable investment in to the site, and give a very personal service, with far improved facilities.
Please be assured that when our site closes at the end of the season, we will not be rest on our laurels, and ground and other works will recommence. Keep an eye on our website to see the further changes, and we hope you will try us again in the future. Hopefully next time, you will be far luckier with the weather also. |

We spent one of the best weeks at this campsite in July/August 2013. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We don't do commercial sites, we like quiet, basic, nature friendly sites with the home comforts of hot showers and good toilet blocks, and most importantly a friendly service. When we stumbled across this site on the internet we were so happy to find something that fitted our bill in the perfect location. I have spent the last 25 years on and off visiting this area and am so pleased that we are still returning with my little family.
The owners couldn't have done enough for anyone, we were on the pitch right next to the deck and saw them first thing in the morning and last thing at night - they never stopped! All our requests were met for the type of pitch we required for our very large tent and they went massively out of their way to ensure that we and every other camper were comfortable during their stay. The small amount of food they did provide was fantastic. We sampled their home made breakfast baguettes on several mornings and also bought a jar of their homemade coleslaw, all of which was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
We were a party of 3 with a 15 month old 'explorer' and although the campsite leads straight out onto a busy road, he was able to have a bit of freedom on the site to wonder around under a watchful eye. He especially loved being right next to the chickens and loved to visit them everyday, and also watch all the other wonderful wildlife that visited the site. Harvey the dog was a big hit too!
The shower blocks were fantastic, the showers were always hot and the cubicles are an ideal size, with enough room to put everything, get washed, have a shower, get dry and for all your belongings to stay dry too. Most importantly the shower blocks were always nice and warm too. There's nothing worse than warming up in the shower but having to get dressed in a cold shower block!
We were really looking forward to coming back this year, but as we've started to plan our return, we have just seen that it is now an adults only site. Such a massive disappointment and so sad that we won't be able to come back here again.

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at the Meadows. It was our first time camping and we were definitely spoilt by the Meadows. The site is small and informal. the new owners are friendly and really helpful with lots of great suggestions and dog friendly ideas. the wet rooms and toilets are pristine and all the extra touches that they provide are fabulous. Hiring a fire pit or BBQ with everything provided and taken away and cleaned for you afterwards is a great idea. The breakfast baguettes and cake were fantastic and at a bargain price - just wish we had eaten more! The fresh eggs from 'the girls' (the chickens!) on site were lovely and our dogs loved Campdog Harvey.
The area is fantastic - just too much to do in a week. We loved The Polgooth Inn, Mevagissy, Fowey, The lost gardens of Heligan and the lovely beaches. We hope to visit again and we wish them lots of luck with the success of the Meadows - they deserve it. Michelle & Tracey

Just back from 3 fantastic days at The Meadows. Lovely site, with fantastically friendly owners. You would never know it is their first season. The personal service was great. The fact that they had done a dog friendly map of beaches and pubs was a great bonus for us. Recycling is a great part of the ethos and the fact that you can have a BBQ is also good. Really nice that you have lovely clean showers that you can actually move in rather than the normal tiny cubicals you get. The breakfast baguettes are great value for money. Will definitely be back.

We can heartily endorse the other reviewers' positive comments about this site and especially the new owners - helpful and friendly to the extreme; they even offered a lift to the pub with our dogs when it was raining (we declined and 'cabined up' for the night)
The breakfast baguettes were wonderful, and we also enjoyed some free range eggs (bantams, you need two but they do taste good!) Good luck to the owners in your new venture, you deserve every success.
