Most amazing, peaceful yet well organised venue. The owner is just a gem and if you are looking to get away from the maddening crowd and get back to tranquil living, Meredith Farm is just the spot.

With the beautiful countryside full of walks right from your tent what more could you want. The owner is incredibly helpful and will make your stay just the best. If you haven't been to Meredith, make it your next camping destination!

We have just returned from the May Bank holiday weekend and I must say what a great weekend we had. The weather was fantastic, the campsite was great and Elvis the pig gave the kids hours of entertainment along with the guinea pigs, goats, ducks and lambs.

Neil the owner was so helpful, a very nice man, who gave us lots of information on the local area and helped us plan our weekend away.

As noted previously the facilities are basic, more basic that we are used to BUT they are kept in excellent condition and are very clean and tidy.

If you are prepared to go back to nature without new shower blocks, shops, top of the range children's play area etc then this could be for you. The children's rope swing, punchbag, stream, animals and acres of open space kept my two entertained all weekend.

All in all a fantastic, friendly, peaceful site where we really did get away from it all, if only for a couple of days.

We would return again in order to explore more of the local area.

We have just had a great time at Meredith Farm Campsite.

The lambs are a delight - all playing together in a gang.

The views are glorious and there is so much space for campfires and peace that anyone would be content.

No music! isn't that great!

The facilities are very good. Yes a 'rustic' timber shower and toilet building, but clean, private, airy, warm and well maintained, with sufficient hot water.

The owner will help with just about anything.

Lovely to walk by the stream and watch the rabbits, lambs, and then there was ELVIS.

The area has a great deal to offer - we had no idea. Not done half of it, so we'll be back.

Enjoyed our 4 night stay at this site. Neil is helpful and friendly and was available whenever we needed him. Yes, the facilities are basic, but were part of the rural experience and we were quite satisfied with them. There are two toilets and a shower, spin dryer and a sink for washing up. There are maps, details of walks, books to read, stuff to borrow, things to purchase should you need them - even emergency bedding, which we thought was a nice touch!

The animals are friendly too - I had a particular rapport with Elvis the pig who really is quite a connoisseur where food is concerned and loves human company. A good bus service runs between Hereford and Monmouth just along the road, which is great if you just want to park up on site and avoid the hassle of parking elsewhere. We loved the open space around us - and the cockerel currently resides far enough away not to disturb early in the morning! There is play equipment for small children and some toys to use on site.

We loved the very peaceful setting - and the weather did not disappoint as all the rain here was at night!

 What a Fabulous site!

We loved the space, the animals and the laid back feel. As previous reviews say, it is the ideal site for those wanting a get away from it all campsite. The toilet/shower facilities are basic, but are adequate and clean. But then the £1 shop, loan items/emergency kit is way above anything you would get at bigger campsite

Having fire pits provided was a real bonus as sitting out on a chilly September evening was fantastic.

The kids (aged 4 and 6) were entertained by the Guinea Pigs for hours and the owners were really kind and patient with the children.

It is not a site for those expecting entertainment and facilities but that is what appeals. I hope it stays as it is. Fantastic value for money at £9 per night for a family of 4 too.

We have just returned from our third visit to Meredith Farm this year. We love this campsite - our children are 7 & 9 and love the play area, guinea-pigs, stream and farm animals! Feeding the goats and Elvis (the infamous pig) every morning with Dr. Wheeler was a big hit with the kids and Neil was so patient with them.

Facilities are as mentioned in previous reviews - a shack with a shower and 2 toilets, washing up sink, fridge & freezer. All are rustic/basic, but adequate - wear your crocs in the shower and it's fine! Water's hot! It can get a bit muddy around the shack so wellies are a must.

There's lots about this campsite that is so charming - lots of loan items, fire grates and a £1 cupboard! The owner supplies firewood at £5 per bag. There's a old fashioned electric spin dryer and rotary washing line to use. Loads of local information and some laminated walk cards to borrow.

Most importantly - the views are beautiful and there's no music! You can almost always get a pitch and it's often quiet. We arranged for a group of us (5 families) to go for a weekend and nearly had the field to ourselves and didn't have to worry about upsetting anyone.

If you have to have plug sockets for hair straighteners, music in pristine toilets and a laundrette - this isn't the campsite for you, but if you don't mind basic - this campsite will charm you and you'll be back with friends.

 A flawed gem.

In many (most) ways this is a great campsite. Acres of space, great views, simple, quiet-no music. Just how I (and MrsG) like it.

The kids loved it, lots space to run around, being allowed to feed the goats. Dr M is a nice bloke with a lovely, helpful family.

But. Calling the facilities 'rustic' is just being nice. In need of demolition would be more accurate. Not always that clean either.

If, as we were, you are in a caravan with it's own facilities you will be fine. I would not want to camp there.

Having said that, it's 'rustic' charm probably is what keeps it quiet.

So make your choice, it's a cracking spot, but don't go if you are squeamish about where you shower or take your paper.

Utterly beautiful site, very nearly perfect. Lots of thought has gone into this site, and facilities like the Travellers' Tree, Pound Shop, ice-pack exchange and spare equipment box are all excellent ideas. Campfires are allowed: braziers are available free and bags of wood are sold on site (always plentiful). The 'no music' rule is also reassuring, though of course it can't stop toddlers waking up and chatting loudly at 5am.

The pitches are widely-spaced, though there aren't many that are both flat and within a reasonable distance of the toilet-block: it's a *long way up* from the stream-side pitches, particularly in the dark.

This site is sadly let down by the quality of the toilet-block. It's a farm, so spiders/mud/grass clippings should be expected, but it could be so much nicer with very little effort. The shower is the worst: it's just the head of a power-shower poked through the chipboard wall from the toilet cubicle next door. If anyone else uses a tap or flushes the loo while the shower is on, the pressure drops to a dribble, which misses the shower-tray. The shower cubicle is large, with a small seat and plenty of hooks (good for parents and kids) but is not well lit. The floor doesn't drain well despite a slope, and it got very muddy during our stay - not helped by a green and mouldy-looking duckboard which was more slippery than the floor. This really needs attention, but in the meantime a more vigorous cleaning regime and better lighting would help. Reducing the number of spiders living in the block by more regular dusting/cleaning would also make things much more comfortable for those of us who have to steel themselves to get within a foot of the things.

I don't want to detract too much from the 'nearly perfect' comment, though. The setting is beautiful, Neil is very helpful and friendly and everything (apart from the toilet block) has really been thought about. Elvis the pig is a right charmer, and the guinea pigs were very popular with the kids on the site. And it's fabulous value for money - but I'd happily pay more if it covered the costs of a better shower and more active cleaning.

After spending a number of previous nights at several over-priced Maplins-like holiday camps it was a real treat to stumble across Meredith Farm while taking the scenic route to avoid the M5 between North Devon and Stoke-on-Trent.

The sign nailed to the gate invited visitors to phone a Dr Neil Wheeler upon arrival, but we first drove slowly into the field. Then suddenly he appeared from nowhere - the last boy scout. Resembling Robinson Crusoe but with the articulation and manners of a gentleman; a great character and a great story teller. Nothing was too much trouble.

Sure the ablution facilities were a bit rustic, as previously described; I would have likened them more to the pow camp at the bridge on the River Kwai. But they were clean and adequately maintained. Forget the spiders and the dubious drainage system, get yourself under the shower which was hot and invigorating.

The farm's website photo does no justice to the pound shop whose shelves now groan under the weight of goodies. Not only the basics like milk and eggs, but also toys and books. Sausages and farm reared meat can be had for the asking and four giant pork chops were fetched from the farmhouse freezer for only a fiver.

An earlier reviewer lamented the lack of outdoor playthings for children last year. Now there is a see-saw, large toys and other apparatus in a fenced enclosure, albeit more suited to little girls or small boys, and also housing the several guinea pigs who were in grave danger of being petted to death.

We are not seasoned campers but, on the eve of our retirement, were merely trying out a brand new shiney motorhome (hired, not ours) which was totally out of place among the proper campers with their proper caravans and proper tents. But all were friendly and we soon felt at home, a common bond being the obligatory bonfire outside each pitch well into the evening for which Neil thoughtfully keeps a number of grates, fire pits and BBQs for free loan, plus sacks of dry firewood for a small consideration.

At 5am the next morning our dog asked for a walk around the farm boundary. Our fire was still smouldering and was soon rekindled. What a joy to sit and watch the vivid orange sun rise above the distant hills. And with a three acre meadow of mown hay for a front garden, together with chickens, sheep, goats and pigs to the rear, one could ask for nothing more. And all for a tenner a night.

Was it only three days ago?

Sadly our prior obligations prevented more than a one night stay, so we had no time to walk to the nearest pub or look for the nearest village store. The nearest petrol station is also rumoured to keep basic groceries, as petrol stations do.

Dr Neil also keeps a static caravan of mature years, with original gas mantles still intact. With the benefit of water, gas and electricity this will likely be our shelter when we next visit. We still cling to our creature comforts. And it's only a couple of hours or so from home!

After I got over the shock of the poor facilities (1 shower, 2 toilets) located in a run down wooden shack which looked like it needed a good clean and maybe replacing, I found this site extremely charming.

We went with 3 other families with children aged 3 up to 13 and we had a fantastic time. There is so much space for the children to enjoy. They spent hour upon hour running, playing and having fun in the stream at the bottom of the campsite.

The guinea pigs are a definite attraction for the kids who can hold and cuddle them without much adult supervision. There are goats which are bottle fed every morning by the kids.

There are fire baskets (free use) which we filled up every night, wood available £5 a bag though we did manage to find some loose twigs and branches which we also used. We camped at the top of the site with no electricity and found it flat enough with loads of space. The other families wanted electricity so camped at the very top of the field where the ground had been churned up by the cars. Thank goodness the sun came out and the mud dried up.

Wonderful views. Sheep, cows, farmers in the fields cutting their hay. Wonderful night sky if no clouds. A fab walk to the local pub which took us across fields, over streams, through mud - watch out for the cows! (directions at the campsite).

We had a carvery on the Sunday and it was absolutely delicious. Pub staff pleasant and very welcoming. Would recommend pub, very family friendly.

The site is quiet although probably not so quiet in the school holidays. We would definitely go again as a very relaxing site.

Allowing campfires gave us parents a chance to unwind, sit around the campfire, talk and drink plenty of wine. I would have given this site 10/10 but unfortunately the facilities let it down a little.

For £9 a night I can't really complain can I?
