Big site, good facilities, but 180 sheets for one week of mud. Towed onto unsuitable pitch, then towed off, towed onto another mudbath by very helpful staff. They need to spend some money on drainage and better roadways. Complained at reception but no one interested. Can't blame hendra for weather . More like motocrossing than motorhoming! Apart from that,it was the best holiday I have ever had!

Have been to Hendra on many occasions and this site is fantastic. Ok nobody can control the weather and this summer was pants, but staff did all they could to help and gave out free groundsheets when pitches got muddy. Toilets have always been spotless and showers lovely and hot, but not easy to keep clean when people are in and out in muddy wellies!
Kids entertainment fab, cabaret bar good but busy, but there again what do you expect in peak season. Marios pizza very reasonable and fantastic entertainment, Mike Norfolk is a legend. Newquay has loads on offer for all ages, town centre is about 25 min walk, £6 in a taxi or there is a bus stop right outside.
Beaches are second to none. Harbour restaurant is fantastic as is The Meadery. All in all a fantastic holiday and will be going again next year. (have been 3 times this year)

To be brutally honest, I wasn’t impressed in the slightest with Hendra holiday park, don’t be fooled by the sunny pictures of families enjoying themselves on the parks website, this is far cry from our experience this August Bank holiday weekend.

I can only describe my experience with my family of 4 as Glastonbury!

We have all seen the news reports of ankle deep in mud. This is Hendra!

I can’t blame Hendra for the UK’s poor British summer time, but they could at least make the stay a little more pleasant.

Our car got stuck in the mud trying to get to our allocated pitch, as did so many, we reluctantly pitched out tent on the muddy, slanted ground we paid well over the odds for. We booked in advance so we could be close to the nearest toilets, but was placed nowhere near and to top off the 3 night stay, any entertainment, whether it was eating out or just going for a drink was overly expensive.

I can tolerate virtually any experience, no matter how bad, but would have to say Hendra did itself no favours in my book, I am not a hardcore camper but for the cost I expected a lot better.

The cleaners tried their best to keep the showers and toilets clean but was fighting a losing battle, the entertainment in the cabaret bar was good but not brilliant and finding a seat was near on impossible. Like us if you have children the late night bass from the club can be heard across the park and about the only good thing I can say was regarding the oasis indoor fun pool, it was the only time we felt clean and warm the whole stay.

I am sure if we had a summer like back in 2006 the site might be able to cope and could be more pleasant, read other reviews on this site, drainage is a problem and so are the make shift roads, or mud tracks!

There are probably better pitches, at a lower cost, on level ground, close by. Be worth taking a look at other campsite before booking here.

I had a look around the park and found the static caravans would be far the best option if you are going to stay and trust me, make the most of Morrisons (left out of park and turn right at next round about) it will save you £££’s

Hendra would benefit from tarmac or gravel roads in and out of fields, more toilet facilities scattered around the camping fields, field rotation and better drainage if it is to survive from any more poor reviews.

To summarise, would I go here again? Probably not, not unless we had a 3 week heat wave.

Has this experience put us off camping? Very much so.

Just returned from holiday in Cornwall and because of the awful weather everywhere we wanted to praise a park that made our holiday fabulous despite the rain and the mud - Hendra Park, our first visit there and what a great place! Although it rained and rained and rained we had a great time and we're glad we picked a park that had so much to offer and could clearly pull out all the stops when faced with conditions beyond their control! The staff worked tirelessly to minimise the impact of the weather, AND they stayed smiling even though we heard some campers blaming the park for the weather! We just got our wellies and umbrellas out and had fun!

Amazing indoor pools complex, very busy but you'd expect this in a wet August! Good restaurant and takeaway, we didn't use the club but we liked the nearby pub and the local supermarket within walking distance. Our grandchildren loved the kids club and the train, and splashing about in pool too!

Well done Hendra, we already planning our return visit - rain or shine!

We had high expectations for Hendra, but were disappointed!

The entrance to Hendra Holiday Park was very well manicured and impressive on arrival.

We went to check-in and were told all the rules and regulations, which was fine and normal. The receptionist was friendly and answered some questions we had.

We knew we were beside the club house and were told there might be some noise from the acts they had on,which we were willing to accept.

We went to our pitch, which was right beside the entrance to the club house where all the deliveries are received. The pitch was uneven and we had to salvage bricks from anywhere we could to make the caravan any way level.

Being next to the club house we were woke at early morning with bottle banks being emptied, lorries unloading beer kegs with their engines running throughout and had to wait until they had finished at times, as they would often block our exit.

The music coming from the club house was nothing compared to the constant roar of the air conditioning from approx. 5.00 in the evening til around 01.00 in the morning. It could be clearly heard over the tv and I had to purchase ear plugs to get some sort of peace.

As I said at the start the entrance was lovely, however the inside of the campsite with the rain was a mucky mess. The shower and toilet blocks were constantly filthy with people walking through the mess in welly boots and then showering in the boots, which meant the dirt from the boots went through into the adjoining shower cubicles.

I know there should be some mess, however I thought there might have been a bit more cleaning going on. The last site we stayed at outside Torquay suffered heavy rain too. Although they had mopes so people could clean up after themselves if they wished.

Now for the entertainment. If you have no kids and you like to talk to people and be friendly this site is not for you. It was the most impersonal camp site we have ever stayed in.

The music beside the pool was by some young guys who held an open mik night, and the ones that sang were better than they were. Mario's was not much better. We only went one night and didnt go back. The singer was terrible and they had no gas in the majority of the patio heaters. We left after our first drink.

The main club house was full of kids running round everywhere at all hours. It was hard to get a seat with all the groups of parents 'reserving' the good seats throughout the night. The heat in the club house was very hot, although as we know the air conditioning does work, not very well in a packed room.

The last nail in the coffin was when we asked if we could stay an extra few hours, (we had been there for two weeks) which we thought would be alright as there was a lot of empty spaces.

The receptionist informed us that if we wanted to stay on our pitch, which was empty until at least 12 noon the next day we would have to pay the full rate of £26. We explained that we only wanted to stay an extra few hours,as we had to travel to Liverpool to catch the boat. After all we had to put up with constant noise and dirt for two weeks, however there was no compromise with her and she then said the site was booked.

We reminded her that she had just said it was not booked and we could stay there if we paid the full 24 hour fee.

Check in was was quick (we had pre booked) & our allocated pitch was of generous size & appeared ideally located next to steps leading down to the toilet/shower block & with easy access to the site ameneties.

Torrential rain from the first night on meant the field quickly cut up & I had to take measures to try and force people away from our pitch to avoid the mud cutting up any further.

Despite the horrendous conditions the site was kept remarkably clean in all areas. The management took steps to try & keep campers entertained by opening up the nightclub by day & laying on various activities (Essential for some as it became impossible to move cars from some parts of the site.)

For the children there were no fewer than 3 activity playgrounds & an amusement arcade which had some machines which accepted 2p coins (amazing the amount of fun you can have for £1-00.

The shop was very well stocked, even having frozen vegitarian meals available and despite the captive audiance seemed to be very sensibly priced (2 pints of milk 86p) I'd struggle to beat that round here.

There are two pools the outside one supposedly heated, though I'd always believed the act of lowering a temperature was called refridgeration & the indoor complex with various flumes. Pick your time for this one ,it is open to the public & on bad weather days (ie all of them) queues quickly build up.

Catering was very expensive, so much so that we avoided it & the main restaurant/bar had the atmosphere of a railway station waiting room. Infact I wonder why anybody would eat there & very few did, especially when 1/3 of a mile down the road & opposite Morrisons was the Kings head which not only served some very fine real ales, it had an excellent menu & 3 days a week did an 'Early bird' carvery (4:30 til 6:30) which I have to say is the best I have ever had.

On the down side the shower block was looking a little dated & whilst there was plenty of toilet facilities (all very clean & with ample supply of soft paper) there were only 6 shower cubicles which resulted in queueing & when you did finally get in the water tended to dribble down the wall more than provide a good cleansing spray. The nightclub is noisy & despite the signs asking for quiet after 10 it was closer to midnight before things tended to settle down but many families seemed to love it.

OK the weather was a little extreme but there are clearly drainage issues on parts of the site. I lost count of the number of vehicles that were pushed out by fellow campers or indeed had to be towed out.

In conclusion a very well run site with a dedicated & friendly staff but maybe it's time to start spending some money on the infrastructure. Would I go back.Probably not, been there got the T-shirt.

We have just got back from a Week at Hendra. The staff were not very helpful at all. We just about got our tent on our pitch and our car there was no room for the children to play and nowhere to put any chairs outside so we were confined to sitting inside our tent, the weather was not great so was not too bad had it been glorious weather it would have been awful. We were crammed in and we had a caravan so close I felt as if I was on holiday with them! Whilst we were there a touring caravan caught fire and as they were packed in so close the tent next door went up as well.

As soon as its wet the field turns to bog and they try and throw a few stones down to no avail. The camp is generally quite noisy at night lots of teenagers running around and screaming and no signs of anyone to do anything about it.

The club was ok and the childrens entertainment was good. There is a train ride which is free! There is a kids club but it costs £2.50 after the first half an hour, trampolines £2 for 5 minutes, the swimming pool is £2.50 per person, basically you are paying a lot of money for a small patch of grass and to use the bathroom because they charge for everything! On this note the shower block on our field was good but some were just portaloos.

The shop is well stocked and they have a restaurant on site, the arcades are not up to much.

Ths site is massive and some of the fields are really exposed for tents like Cheshnut field (do go in there) - most of the tents the next morning were down in this field after s windly night and its really boggy.

The site was well maintained, however we were unhappy with our initial pitch allocation (next to bins and wasps!). We asked to swap and the reception staff were very helpful and found a more suitable location. The pitch was adequate size for a 4 man tent, but beware the ground hardness for your pegs! Located on bus route to Newquay but beware taxi's as they charge you tourist rates! Toilet block was exceptionally clean (with electric points for straighteners).

Entertainment good for kids, choice of beer poor for adults! Food average and average price. Would visit again.

Firstly our arrival and check in was really quite speedy, staff were very helpful. We arrived around 2 ish on a Sunday. We had pre booked a pitch so we new where we were going, don't think this had anything to do with the speed in which we were processed though.

It was pouring when we arrived, so had the usually stress related to putting up a large tent in the rain and keeping all things dry!

Once settled in we had a walk around the site to familiarise ourselves with the layout. The first thing we discovered was that 'This site is huge!'

The range of facilities on offer are great. I wont list them as they are all shown on the web sites.

During our stay at Hendra the rain gods performed their magic every day! This in turn unfortunately turned much of the tent / touring site into a quagmire! A bit like Glastonbury of years gone by!

The grounds men tried there hardest to help out by strategically placing tracking down in some of the worse places, to help out where all the cars were getting stuck in!

Due to the above rain and mud, the toilet / shower blocks took a bit of a hammering. The cleaning staff on hand worked tirelessly in my opinion to try to keep the blocks clean though. It is here though again in my opinion, that some of the human race, if they can be called that fall into question. I find it hard to believe some of the mess, and items that were left lying around by the minority. It does bring into question how some people live at home. Thanks again to the cleaning staff for trying to keep on top of things.

I can not say that I have any real complaints about Hendra apart from the size being its downfall.

I know the weather didn't help as everyone was looking for a dry area! but if you plan on going to the entertainment. Get there early. Anything later than 8.30 and you wont get a seat.

The same must be said of the Oasis pool on site, a wonderful complex, had a great laugh in there. But again probably due to it not being beach weather this too was packed daily, with large queues to get in. Residents can go in before the masses though, from 9 til 10, which is a help.

To summarise, would I go to Here again? Yes I would.

However, I would pray that the weather conditions were better, which was In my opinion a major contributor to any negative comments in this review.

I hope this is of help to you.

My advise. Check your long range weather forecast before going! Enjoy

Ask for pitch 325 brill great fantastic. Loved this site. The Pool is too busy to be able to enjoy it I think a lot of locals use it in fact we couldn't even get in! We didn't try the other entertainment as we were in Newquay for a VW weekend so went out and about most evenings.

The showers and toilets were fantastic the only complaint was the telly thingy telling you about different places to go it was too loud and you could hear it during the night from inside the tent because they leave all the windows open in the toilet block all night it would be better if they just turned it off at 11 and put it on again at 7 in the morning.

Other than that we loved Hendra and would definitely come back again in fact we are booking for next year.
