Ok, where do I start! First and foremost you can tell it's a 'cheap' Haven sight. We've stayed at a couple of other sites in Dorset and found them to be very nice, but this one leaves a lot to be desired.

All amenities could do with being demolished and rebuilt with harder wearing and slightly more up-to-date fittings & fixtures.

Everything on the site was very expensive.

If you're looking for a place to 'chill out' (which we weren't, having been to other Haven sites) then this ain't the place! Especially when you most of the time you hear parents and kids shouting and swearing a lot.

Having said that though, the staff were great, the location was brilliant for the kids (and adults) to explore. The entertainment was ok.

I think this could be an exceptional site having had a couple hundred grand invested and then the holiday prices put up a bit (if you know what I mean!).

To summarise:- We booked a week, stayed for 3 days (that was partly to do with the weather tho) !

 SHOWERS & LOOS.

Perran Sands has received a lot of criticism for the loo blocks. However I have to say that I found them acceptable when I stayed. Okay, some of the fixtures are a little tired, but there is evidence of recent maintenance. New loo seats, new cladding to ceilings, new cubicle partitions (though some locks are missing). There are 3 blocks, each differing slightly. Though all cleaned regularly. It must be remembered that this is a hugh site, and people leave facilities in a poor state. Haven can't be blamed for this! The showers are very powerful and were always hot. There were no bad smells. Just a basic but perfectly serviceable set of loo blocks!

VALUE FOR MONEY.

Great if you get an online deal as we did. £93 for 7 nights with elec. Not bad for time of year. Would I pay full price for my camping trip there?. NO! But as I say, GREAT VALUE at the online discounted rates.

STAFF.

I hurt my back packing on the final day and had to stay on another night. They were VERY helpful - only charged addl. £10. Can't complain! They even came back to check I was okay later in the day! Decent blokes!

FACILITIES.

Club, shop, pool (in and out with slide), burger king, chippy etc. Much of the outside entertaining area has had a recent re-vamp. It looks great at the moment, though it all looks a bit 'domenstic' in terms of the quality of the finish and the fixtures used, so perhaps won't wear so well - I have to wonder how it will all look in another 24 months. Now though, pretty good (cabaret is the usual HAVEN dross - but hey. What can you expect)!

SURROUNDING AREA.

Beautiful Perranporth beach - VERY clean (cleaner than Fistral beach in Newquay) - bar on the beach 'The Watering Hole' with real cask ales. Live bands etc, good food and BBQ. GREAT! Price of pint of real beer - £2.95. A 20p (ish) premium for the location of this bar. But WELL WORTH IT! Perranporth is handy for Newquay, but nicer for families with young kids. Safer, cleaner, more 'compact' and perhaps friendlier too! Local coop good for the basics. A good base location for day tripping around the rest of Cornwall (an hour or so to lands end. The A30 is a great road now).

SUMMARY.

Great for families with kids - free use of the pool alone is great for them, though you can spend a fortune as there are arcades on site! I would stay again at the prices we paid. That should say enough really. Just don't expect too much. And if you see something you don't like, tell the staff because they DO act upon your comments. I noticed a dirty baby change unit in the swimming pool area, with a missing strap. I noted this to a member of staff. It was all repaired and sparkly clean the next day when I checked! Again. You can't expect more really! Looks like this site is cleaning up its act. WELL DONE TO THE STAFF THERE>>> PLEASE KEEP UP THE EFFORTS - WE DO APPRECIATE IT!

We stayed for a week over kids holidays at the end of May.

Haven sites are a money making enterprise. They are there to make a signigficant profit and cater for a wide range of people . They are not C and CC sites. If you keep all this in mind then you won't go far wrong and expect too much. Beer actually not too badly priced (Carlsberg was £2.75) , shorts more. Bottled beer was expensive but that's always the case other than at supermarkets. If you are after real ale then you won't find it here. There's a shop on site too which is not too bad.

Good things outway the bad and on the whole this is a great site. I wouldn't rush to drive five hours to go back, if it was closer then I might consider it.

Good points. The staff are without exception very friendly and very geared up to you having a good time (especially if they can get you to empty your wallet too :)). The pitchs were big . The golf looked new. There's a pool. There's a club. There's even a burger king. It's near perranporth beach which is a great surfy beach and is miles long. The curry house in Perranporth is worth a trip too. The touring wardens seemed to be around a lot and there was NO litter for any length of time. The gulls rarely seemed to be feeding on-site. The surrouding area is incredibly beautiful and there are some great little towns close by (we went to Mevagissey in a raging storm and saw the sea wall being breeched by huge waves AT LOW TIDE, there's an aqauriam here too). Nearest supermarket appears to be in Redruth. The perranporth Coop is quite good too.

Bad points. Uneven pitchs with holes (there are billions of tons of sand nearby so it isn't a massive problem AND it distracts the kids). The electrics packed up BUT the staff were on it like a shot, well done. The toilets were dire, apparently Luke is Gay and Linda performs un repeatable acts. Not too bad but someone was even helpful enough to date the scratchs in the paint as being 2006. The blocks were very worn out and in need of some cleaning. Usual thing about locks missing etc and one toilet that created it's own tidal wave when I flushed it. A bit noisy at night and in the early hours but this is not a club site and on the whole the touring area was OK. The chip shop we found in perranporth was like something out of a Jeremy Beedle show with the least efficient staff ever (the chips were good). The walk to the beach is a steep one too, at least it will keep you fit but of doubtful use to those with mobility issues.

The site itself was very nice and the camping fields were away from the main complex which was a bonus at night as there wasn't much noise from the main clubhouse.

The pitches were all clearly marked out, of a sufficient size and I think there was Electric available at all pitches if required.

The actual complex was not the best compared to other Haven sites I've been too and the pool was VERY cold but the entertainment for the children throughout the day was very good and helped to tire them out for an early night.

Personally I wouldn't return as it's a long way to travel from Lancashire to go to a Haven site (which there are much better examples of in Yorkshire) but we did have a good holiday.

Perhaps we may have wanted to return if the weather was better at the time as it was very wet, very windy and very gloomy (really put the tent through it's paces and many holidaymakers ended up leaving after only a couple of nights).

We stayed here in August 2008. We travelled through the night from North Wales and arrived about 6 in the morning. We went to the security office and said we could park up on a field but would have to pay £10. So just be aware if you arrive early you will get charged, to park on a field waiting for the pitch to become available.

This was our first Haven holiday and me and the misses were not too keen on booking this place. But we left it a bit late and we had no choice. I have to say we all loved it, the kids could`nt get enough of the entertainment and come to the end of the 2 weeks the kids did`nt want to leave.
The pitches for the caravans are surrounded by sand dunes and in a lovely setting there is a lot of space between caravans. Some plots are flat, so make sure you ask for a flat plot. The showers and toilets were ok (Not brilliant, but not rubbish either). The staff on the site were all fantastic. The walk to the beach is down a big path, so if your a bit afraid of height, I`d give the beach a miss. The beach is patrolled by life guards. The sea has big waves and the current can be a bit un preditable.

Cornwall we absolutly love, so much to do there

Would we go back again???

YES!

When we arrived at this site we had broken down on the way and the staff could not be more helpful or accommodating when we had to stay longer due to our car not being fixed, and they helped us find a good garage to get it fixed quickly. The entertainment complex was good, great for keeping the little ones happy and the food in the pub was good. The only problem with this site is the trek back up from the beach and the numerous hills on the drive there, the area is lovely and perranporth is a nice town with a good beach.

We stayed on this site for a week, having stayed on a Haven before we basically knew what to expect with regard to on site facilities relating to bar clubs etc.
As it was toward the end of their season the touring site was quite quiet when you think about how big it actually is and Haven in their wisdom had closed two of the three toilet / shower blocks. The one that was open was truly awful, but part of the blame has to lay with the campers using it leaving it in a state. Luckily we have own own toilet facilites so didn't use the toilets, the showers were surprisingly good, hot water and very powerful, seeing as we always timed it right we never had to queue. They really do need looking at but I guess before they spend the money they need to look at those campers that damage and vandalise just for the hell of it.
The site is set in dunes and you can walk down to the beach, but please be aware it is a VERY Steep and long walk back, not for the unfit, you can park on the seafront in perranporth for £3.00 its the same beach, and wow what a beach.
The site is strangly dog friendly unlike other Haven sites, you can't take them inside but you can enjoy a drink outside the bar with your sandy dogs.
Perrnaporth really is a lovely place and there are plenty of sites in and around so unless you really want to go to Haven there are other places to try. We did enjoy our stay mainly because we were basically on our own in quiet corner with lovely veiws of the dunes and the countryside beyond.
Worth a go but maybe not in the main season! Those shower bloack really are the pits.

If you have ever visited a Haven site you know what to expect, this site is typical of their layout and the amenities are pretty much the same as any other Haven site you go to.

This was our first visit to this particular site on our 15 day tour of Somerset,Devon and Cornwall.

We stayed here for 3 days

First impressions were generally OK,the receptionist was helpful, electrical hook ups and water disposal /taps close to each pitch.

The pitches are sizable and we were located near the sand dunes, this was a benefit for two reasons, one the kids loved them to play on and two they act as a natural windbreak.

The ground was however uneven, but not a problem.

The amenities are just a walk away and include bar, arcades in door and out door pool, super market (with plenty of stock),Burger king, takeaway ,trampolines and mini golf.

The entertainment was pretty good -the kids loved the wrestling and also the magic show.

There is also buses running throughout the day to other nearby towns.

The biggest gripe I have with Haven ,and this site is no exception is the way their sales team, sorry entertainment team constantly push products upon the consumer (holiday maker).

With constant reminders that the bar is still open, kids tattoos are two for one,get your glow sticks kids for the night time disco, bingo tickets buy 10 pay for 5 etc etc etc.

They also offered a free BBQ for anybody seriously interested in buying a static caravan-wow

The main entertainment is reached by walking through a giant arcade, shop that sells Teddy bears etc and then another shop that sells just about everything that flashes and glows, kids want it all and Haven know this.

Its a shame Haven do not invest some of their massive profits from this site into building new toilet blocks-they are filthy and disgusting.

They need to be knocked down and new ones re-built.(painting them once a year in bright garish colours does not disguise the fact they are run down ,water logged and dirty)

I could not bring myself to use the showers.

I stood on the highest dune and could not see the beach through my binoculars-so did not attempt to find it.

The mini golf area was also run down and covered in litter (this also cost extra).

The aqua jets cost an extra £5.00 for half an hour.

And the water slide was out of action

Would I return.Yes the kids loved it,but at the moment they are too young to realize they are being exploited.

Visited this site in peak season August 2007. Upon arrival we were able to get on our pitch before the stated 12noon as others had already vacated.
Didn't like pitch given, as too close to the toilet block, so asked to change, which was very easily done.  Stayed here for 2 weeks.

Found the site to be very clean, staff very friendly & helpful. Pitches are reasonably level. The on-site shop is slightly over-priced. Small bakers on site reasonably priced. Full amusements which kids loved! Indoor/outdoor swimming pool reasonable size, main pool clean but baby pool very sandy at the bottom which wasn't cleared during our stay. Full entertainment facilities at this site which was included in the price, not really to our liking as artists were a bit 'karaoke'.

Direct access to a wonderful sandy beach via a steep slope. Views from the top of the slope are truly amazing & so relaxing to walk along the beach to the main beach at Perranporth, where there are a variety of shops selling allsorts, inc a Coop. The beach & views are something we would definitely return for.

Negatives. The toilets are a disgrace. Very grubby, old, sticking doors, several door locks missing, no hand soap for several days even after they had supposedly been cleaned. Several toilets persistantly overflowed. Showers were too hot & the drainage was appalling. You need to wear flip=flops of some sort to stop yourself standing in other peoples dirty shower water as the water does not drain away properly.  The shower/toilet facilities seriously need an overhaul.

Would return here again but only as we have a tourer so can shower/toilet within our own facilily/touring unit. Chemical disposal on site which was quite often cleaner than the toilets/showers!

We had booked a serviced pitch for a couple of nights and had no problem getting in and were even able to change days after we cancelled due to bad weather. We were charged about £2.00 per night extra but accepted the increase as this took us into July and into their higher charging period.

Unfortunately, the good work of the booking and check-in staff was wasted when we arrived at our pitch. The site was plagued with dogs running around all over the place and there appeared to be no staff to keep the situation under control. The shower block was so filthy that I decided to drive home for a shower, thank goodness we live less than 30 minutes from the site. The chemical toilet disposal point near to us was blocked and according to another visitor it had been that way for a couple of days.

The club was not much better, the tables were filthy and covered in empty crisp packets and dirty glasses. There appeared to be one person collecting empty bottles but when we asked if there was anywhere to put the other rubbish we were met with a reply of 'Stick it on an empty table mate!'.

My daughter was really looking forward to the indoor swimming pool but came out after a few minutes complaining that it was full of dead flies.

In all, this is a big camp site owned by a national company and just doesn't have that personal touch that you get on smaller sites. Given the huge numbers of people on this site, there just weren't enough staff to provide the facilities required.

On the plus side, the site is very fast draining, being built on the sand dunes, and despite the rain over the past weeks the site was bone dry.

Perranporth is a five minute drive away and had a number of pubs and restaurants and a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. There is everything you may want in the town.

The main beach is very long with plenty of space and is patrolled by lifeguards in the summer. This is important as this part of the coast is renowned for it's strong rip currents that can catch out even strong swimmers.

In conclusion, we would not visit this site again.
